The Semi-Annual delurking/tell Doyle things/help me procrastinate, bitches Post

Anybody feel like delurking? Or pretending to lurk so you can delurk and comment?

I would like to know any of the following: (unnumbered since I don't expect people to answer them all)
- what's the last movie you saw that you really loved or really hated?
- is there a fic/pairing/scenario/cracked out AU, in any fandom or crossover, that plainly needs to be written but so far hasn't, to your great distress?
- show off your favourite icon.
- what's your favourite season finale of any show ever? Feel free to spoil me.
- if there's a TV/movie/book moment that just gets to you, whether to make you bawl your eyes out or fall about laughing, tell me about it. (*) (Note that this is a footnote mark, not a single pierced nipple boobicon.)
- confess your deep fandom shame. It's good for the soul.
- what upcoming movie/TV show/book/comic/whatever are you excited about? (I think we'll take Serenity as a given...)
- who's the best character in The Simpsons? This would be a poll if I weren't lazy. (It's Reverend Lovejoy, of coure, but I would also accept Sideshow Mel or the gestalt entity Carl-and-Lenny.)
- obscure character love yay! Who needs the love, in any fandom?
- and speaking of obscure, tell me what rare fandoms you have, or what you'd like to see good fic for.

(*) My emotionally crippling moments: I mentioned this when [livejournal.com profile] miggy did her meme a few weeks back, but the Simpsons episode Lisa's Substitute tears me up every single time. Argh, the note, "this is everything you need to know" and it just says "you are Lisa Simpson." I have to watch that episode every time it's on TV. I own it on DVD, I've seen it maybe 30 times, but if it's on TV I'm compelled to sit and watch for that one moment.

And don't get me started on Lilo and Stitch, because then my rampant immaturity will be out there for all the world to see.

ETA: I'm off to bed so if you don't get an immediate response, remember your hitchhiker's guide advice and don't panic. I'll be answering these tomorrow. But keep your towel on standby just in case.

I don't think I count as a lurker, but it always amuses me to answer surveys.

what's the last movie you saw that you really loved or really hated?

Really hated--Batman Begins. Really loved--Mysterious Skin.

is there a fic/pairing/scenario/cracked out AU, in any fandom or crossover, that plainly needs to be written but so far hasn't, to your great distress?

Giles (BtVS)/Fraser (due South)

show off your favourite icon.

My favorite sort of depends on my mood, but I'm using one of my favorites.

what's your favourite season finale of any show ever? Feel free to spoil me.

"Restless," from BtVS season 4.

if there's a TV/movie/book moment that just gets to you, whether to make you bawl your eyes out or fall about laughing, tell me about it.

I infallibly cry at the bit in Truly Madly Deeply where the lovers say goodbye. Also Anya's speech in "The Body," and the end of Gloss's story Book of Daniel.

Come to think of it, I cry at a lot of things. I tend to cry more easily over fictional sorrows than real ones.

confess your deep fandom shame. It's good for the soul.

I love hurt/comfort fic. Absolutely love it. Well-written h/c is preferable, but even if it's pretty bad I eat it up like yummy snack food.

what upcoming movie/TV show/book/comic/whatever are you excited about? (I think we'll take Serenity as a given...)

Brokeback Mountain (aka the Gay Cowboy Movie), the Wallace and Gromit movie, and the Order of the Phoenix movie. I'm looking forward to the new season of House but I'm too doubtful to be excited. Oh, and I'm excited for the new writer who's starting her run soon in the Hellblazer comic, if only because she's got to be an improvement over Mike Carey.

who's the best character in The Simpsons? This would be a poll if I weren't lazy.

Hmmm. I'm not sure I watch the Simpsons enough to have an opinion. But I do love CarlandLenny.

obscure character love yay! Who needs the love, in any fandom?

Lorne. Mort from due South. Leoben Conoy from BSG. Cuddy from House, only not in a paired-with-House sort of way.

and speaking of obscure, tell me what rare fandoms you have, or what you'd like to see good fic for.

Hellblazer!!!! The comic, not the Constantine movie. I don't know why there's so little Hellblazer fic--the fandom has a fascinating central character and fab source material to work from. But there's practically nothing.

Also, somebody should write fic for the movie Dark Harbor.

Meep. The above reference to the Order of the Phoenix movie should actually have been to the Goblet of Fire movie. Fortunately, we're not yet at the point of horrible sadness that is OotP.

I lurk therefore I post.

1. Movie. Batman Begins It was beyond fab. I don't remember enjoying a movie so much in a long time.
On dvds, Spring Forward, a movie where nothing much happens and I fell under its spell.

2. Favorite icon. ::points:: Look, I got the candle to flicker. I'm in love with it.

3. Favorite season finale. I seldom see shows when they're popular, but Homicide, Newhart, StarTrek TNG.

4. I've cried many, many tears at Buffy and Angel.

5. I love Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, and I'm not ashamed.

6. Upcoming movie. The Wallace and Grommit one.

7. Simpson character. It would have to be Moe, but I love them all.

8. Obscure character. Justine in BtVS.

9. My obscure fandoms. Nero Wolfe, Pascoe and Dalziel. And don't talk to me about the tv shows.

- what's the last movie you saw that you really loved or really hated?

I just re-watched the X-Files movie and adored it, despite the lack of a certain Russian double agent.

- is there a fic/pairing/scenario/cracked out AU, in any fandom or crossover, that plainly needs to be written but so far hasn't, to your great distress?

Veronica Mars fandom. Veronica needs to hook up with the skeevy Sheriff Don Lamb, and it needs to be both pr0ny and in character. I can't seem to write both, and neither can anyone else, yet.

- show off your favourite icon.

Veronica/Lamb, of course.

- what's your favourite season finale of any show ever? Feel free to spoil me.

Babylon 5. Season 4. Deconstruction of Falling Stars. It's got a bunch of flash-forwards to a hundred, a thousand, a million years after the run of the series. Very cool.

- if there's a TV/movie/book moment that just gets to you, whether to make you bawl your eyes out or fall about laughing, tell me about it.

Babylon 5, just about any of Delenn's speeches. She starts talking about being the universe, about being star-stuff, or about how life is her mission and if she dies alone in the dark having saved one person, that's enough... *sobs*

- confess your deep fandom shame. It's good for the soul.

I just recently read ridicuously OOC Mulder/Krycek AU fic, and it was so very NC-17 that I read chapter after chapter despite rolling my eyes at the improbability.

- what upcoming movie/TV show/book/comic/whatever are you excited about? (I think we'll take Serenity as a given...)

George R. R. Martin's "A Feast of Crows" and Veronica Mars Season 2.

- who's the best character in The Simpsons? This would be a poll if I weren't lazy. (It's Reverend Lovejoy, of coure, but I would also accept Sideshow Mel or the gestalt entity Carl-and-Lenny.)

Mr. Burns! He's completely self-interested. :)

- obscure character love yay! Who needs the love, in any fandom?

Veronica Mars: Vice Principal Van Clemmons. Dude. I wrote the only fic starring him. This is really sad! He needs much more love.

- and speaking of obscure, tell me what rare fandoms you have, or what you'd like to see good fic for.

I'd adore fic for Melanie Rawn's "Exiles" series.

Oh, you have no idea how much OOC M/K I read as a teenager. Seven years on I still remember one where they were SO IN LOVE OMG and were living together on some tropical island and had a housekeeper who loved them both like sons, and I think there was a scene in a restaurant where one of them was in a cockring.

Yes.

*goes to find OOC M/K*

Babylon 5. Season 4. Deconstruction of Falling Stars. It's got a bunch of flash-forwards to a hundred, a thousand, a million years after the run of the series. Very cool.

I've seen that! I've only seen 4 or 5 episodes of that series total, but I've seen that one. Even watched in isolation without knowing most of the canon, I loved it.

Underworld
Constantine

I loved them both but for different reasons. They're both dark though, Underworld so much more than Constantine...but still. :)

I've seen Constantine (liked it a lot, to my own surprise) but not Underworld; though as it has werewolves in it, I'd probably love it.

People should put their eyes out with a blunt spoon before watching Any Given Sunday. It is not only bad, but it is sneaky and makes you keep watching it because you think that it has to get better than this. And it really doesn't.

A fic/pairing/scenario/cracked out AU, in any fandom or crossover, that plainly needs to be written but so far hasn't.
There should be Blackadder in late Roman Britain fic. With Blackadder as centurion and Baldrick as peasant sidekick. And camps and marching.
Or possibly Sir Blackadder of the Round Table - Arthurian legend with quests. :imagines Baldrick accidentally pulling the sword from the stone:

Show off your favourite icon.
:shows:

Favourite season finale of any show ever?
The Brittas Empire, season 5. Mr Brittas has just saved Carole's life (and died himself), by pushing her out of the way of a full water tank while she was stuck in a children's toy car. He's standing outside the gates of heaven while St Peter has scales and is putting lots of little black balls (which are all the negative things he's done) on one side - and then at the bottom of the container there's this one shiny light ball that is for giving up his life to save another's. It outweighs all his other not-so-good deeds and he gets let into heaven, and it's just aw!

A TV/movie/book moment that just gets to you, whether to make you bawl your eyes out or fall about laughing.
Teachers - Kurt walking alone in the rain after he and Brian have broken up.

My deep fandom shame.
Um. Maybe the slashing of snooker players? Although I have no shame about that I sometimes feel guilty about my lack of shame.

The best character in The Simpsons?
Little Maggie.

What rare fandoms you have, or what you'd like to see good fic for.
Soldier, soldier - There should be more any Tucker/Garvey - 'cause LOOK (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v661/meacester/TG1.jpg). And singing. There should be more singing.
3rd rock from the sun - Aliens with no concept of human conventions, people! Why is there no fanfic?
The Brittas Empire - So many disasters, so little time. Plus Tim/Gavin!
Teachers - More people should write Kurt/Brian, yes. 'cause reading other people's is more fun than writing my own.

Ohhh, that Brittas Empire finale! I wish I could wave my magic fandom wand and make that the real end of the show because I loathed the "and it was all a dream" thing. I loved Tim/Gavin, of course - argh, the episode where they all think Gavin's dead but he's really on a pirate ship! I loved that one.

That Tucker/Garvey picture - GUH. I slashed them back in the day, though I didn't see much of the series.

Kurt walking in the rain is brilliantly done. That whole breakup works so well for being played straight, the fact that they'd both so utterly devastated. Yes, there should be fic, and lots of it. It's going to be one of my [livejournal.com profile] yuletide requests again.

- I'm taking Serenity as a given in this one as well, because I saw it twice recently and ohmygodserenity! :D
So. A couple of days ago I watched Show Me Love / Fucking Amal (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0150662/), which is really fantastic and should be seen by everyone.

- There should be girlslashy Firefly/Farscape crossovers. Preferably involving, say, Aeryn/Zoe, or Chiana/Kaylee. Hee.

- Damn, I have to choose just one? I don't have one! And it changes all the time! Ok, current favourite... I'm using it now.

- Don't make me choooooose! Probably the end of Buffy Season 3, which is just... it's Graduation Day. Yes. Althoug hthe very end of Farscape was really, really shiny.

- I'm really not original here - Anya's speech in The Body makes me cry like crazy. Every single time. Also, the end of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Wah.

- When I first discovered fandom, age 14, I subjected the poor, unsuspecting internet to Ginny-gets-a-makeover-and-ends-up-with-Harry fic of many chapters and unimaginable badness.

- Serenityserenityserenityserenityserenityserenityserenity... What? Other than Serenity? There are other films coming out soon? *peeks out of Browncoat bubble tentatively*
Ok, I'm pretty excited about Goblet of Fire, because the PoA film wasn't such a bad adaptation, and the trailers look shiny.

- Lisa, definitely.

- Gilina, from Farscape, who was lovely, and was in about 3 episodes, then got killed off. Poor Gilina.
Also Vi, from Buffy, because I have always had much love for her, and someone once wrote me a very shiny Vi/Faith fic, which made me have even more love. *grin*

- Bad Girls (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0203248/)! Because it's trashy and and melodramatic and girlslashy and the first three season were actually fantastic and had great storylines and characters. It got a bit crap after that though. [livejournal.com profile] badgirls_tv
There's a very small amount of good fic for it out there, and a large-ish amount of abysmal stuff. There needs to be more good Nikki/Helen fic, damn it!

Bwah! Oh, I wrote appalling Mulder/Scully fic when I was about 12. I feel your pain.

Bad Girls is one of those things that's massively famous and yet I've never seen it. Like Stargate, until last week.

what's the last movie you saw that you really loved or really hated?
It was a repeat watching, like the third time I'd seen it.. Donnie Darko. Seriously one awesome cracked up movie. Doesn't fully make sense unless you look at the extra features on the dvd or go the website though.

what's your favourite season finale of any show ever? Feel free to spoil me.
I'm sure you won't be spoiled.. season 2 of Buffy. It gets me nearly everytime. Sarah McLachlan playing in the background and Buffy leaving town and the gang looking for her and it's just perfect. Not my favorite season, but it's definitely got the finale down to an art.

- confess your deep fandom shame. It's good for the soul.

SEASON TWO OF VERONICA MARS! Speaking of which.. have you watched it yet?? I think it's coming there this fall.. if you want to watch it on tv instead.

who's the best character in The Simpsons?
I'm a fan of the Flanders. Ned especially. Principal Skinner is pretty awesome too.

and speaking of obscure, tell me what rare fandoms you have, or what you'd like to see good fic for.
Sometimes I watch or read something, sometimes just once, and think "wow, these two should get together" But they're really obscure shows or books or they're intended for a younger audience so there's never fic. There's a lot.. Even Stevens (Disney show), Mean Girls (if someone could get the sense of humor of this movie down in a fic, I would love them.), etc.

Oh, I have a story about that. I read Little Women a load of times as a kid, but the versions I had only had volume one, which ends with their father coming home for Christmas. I didn't know it wasn't the full story until I was maybe 13 and there was the episode of Friends where they discuss Beth's death and I was thinking "...the HELL?" I didn't know Beth died. I didn't know Laurie married Amy. I still haven't read the proper version of the book. *g*

::delurking, for the larks::

  1. Last movie I saw that I really loved - Dog Day Afternoon. Which was a while ago actually, but eeee, Sonny! Nicest bank robber in the world. Who is gay. And lets cops touch the cut on his forehead in the middle of the robbery. I love it rather a lot.

  2. Oooh, many. The curse of the rareslasher, sadly. But I'm rather distraught that no-one but me wants to slash Nine and Mickey, even after they had a Moment in an alleyway :( And no-one ever slashes Jaws. What? It's three men alone on a boat, in a life-or-death situation, and plenty of alcohol. It practically IS a slash fic.

  3. ::favourite icon. Well, one I like best at the moment :)::

  4. Finales I rarely get to, sadly. Though the Green Wing 'cliffhanger is memorable. And new Who had Tardis!Rose, so probably that.

  5. I cried like a child at the end of Terminator 2. Moving on...numerous moments in Lolita, probably my favourite book ever. The end bits anyway - when Humbert talks about her 'ruined looks' and loving her anyway, when he admits/realises the tragedy is not her not being with him, but her not being with other children. When he says 'I am Lolita's father'. Ooh ::shivers::

And as for the laughter, the 'Row vs. Wade' Simpsons joke pretty much always gets me ;)

  6. I have no fandom shame. And perhaps no soul!!

  7. Upcoming things: so many films. The joys of being a film magazine fanatic, and thus 'in the know'. Serenity, clearly. Mirrormask, whenever they feel like releasing the BRITISH film in Britain. And Night Watch!, which is Russian, and apparently the Matrix with vampires/werewolves/witches/etc, which has already outsold LOTR in it's home country. And there's a new Lemony Snicket book in November, squee!

  8. Maggie, clearly. Genius mute baby with a shotgun! Or possibly Smithers - genius gay brownnoser with a shotgun!

  9. MICKEY. No-one loves Mickey like I love Mickey. Sunday from BTVS. And Andy Hunter from Eastenders, dammit!

  10. So many. And I'd like to see ANY fic for all of them. Sea of Souls, season 2, which I don't expect anyone to have even heard of anymore, but it here (http://www.bbc.co.uk/drama/seaofsouls/). Lemony Snicket - only I recognise the true love of Violet and the Hook-Handed Man. Malcolm in the Middle - Francis/Spangler. And once upon a time Eastenders, though at the moment Emmerdale, anyone/Carl King. Though preferably one of his brothers. Yes.

::is perhaps starting to feel that fandom shame thing...::

The lack of Mickey love makes me very sad. And you're so right on the Doctor/Mickey - any other fandom there would have been buckets of slash after the last scene in WWIII. I crave fic where Mickey did go along as a companion. And future Ten/Mickey where there's been some epic battle and Rose is dead and Ten is left to break the news and there is angst.

Love the Fight Club icon.

- is there a fic/pairing/scenario/cracked out AU, in any fandom or crossover, that plainly needs to be written but so far hasn't, to your great distress?

I feel there needs to be a Tom Riddle/10th Doctor slash fic in my life. To my great sadness there seems to be no cracked-out Harry
Potter/Doctor Who crossover fic on the net. Life is unfair.

- if there's a TV/movie/book moment that just gets to you, whether to make you bawl your eyes out or fall about laughing, tell me about it.

I cheerfully confess to having a little sniffle to myself at the end of Spirited Away, when Chihiro leaves Haku & the bath-house. It's sad, damnit! And I shriek in horror Every Single Time I watch the last episode of Battlestar Galactica 2004, where Adama gets shot.

- confess your deep fandom shame. It's good for the soul.

I have never liked Smallville. Not even Lex. And Harry/Draco bores me to tears. And I have never seen an episode of Star Trek or Stargate and don't feel the slightest shred of desire to.

- what upcoming movie/TV show/book/comic/whatever are you excited about? (I think we'll take Serenity as a given...)

OMG, DCs' Infinite Crisis is currently making me squeal like a...a...big squealy thing. Particularly the Teen Titans sections of it. I am so much in love with Teen Titans right now that; it's unreal, which is scary considering I hadn't picked up a comic book in 10 years until I picked up a cheap copy of TT: A Kids' Game

- who's the best character in The Simpsons?
Sideshow Bob rocks the joint. If only for the Gilbert and Sullivan operettas. I should mention I have been physically unable to watch the Simpsons ever since I saw the episode where Frank Grimes dies, because after that Homer irritated me so much I felt ill.

and speaking of obscure, tell me what rare fandoms you have, or what you'd like to see good fic for

Oh yeah, and there needs to be more Discworld fic in the world, even though trying to imitate Terry Pratchetts' style is nigh-on impossible.

- what's the last movie you saw that you really loved or really hated?

Old news old news, but I saw Donnie Darko and really liked it, although not to the clutish level of some people. I liked the idea that he was both right *and* nuts.

- is there a fic/pairing/scenario/cracked out AU, in any fandom or crossover, that plainly needs to be written but so far hasn't, to your great distress?

BArty Crouch Jr. oh please. With anyone, doing anything. I looked him up recently for a Tennant fan I know and realised that he's a very interesting character with a lot of story untold and still enough character to make something of...yet no-one has. He's not even (clinically) dead!

- show off your favourite icon.

Oui

- what's your favourite season finale of any show ever? Feel free to spoil
me.

Ooh, probably ATS Season 4. I know a lot of people don't like it but I loved the complete ariness and the subtle twist at the end that the whole point *wasn't* the goddess but the way that all this had messed Connor's head. the scene in the baseball bat shop was the first time I really thought that DB could be a good actor. The other answer would be the "Blake's Seven" finale when I was about tn. They all died! THEY ALL DIED OMG!.

- if there's a TV/movie/book moment that just gets to you, whether to make you bawl your eyes out or fall about laughing, tell me about it.

Howl: The endings of both Brazil (the music) and West Side Story (her bitterness "...how many can I kill and still have one for me?") make me honk and a large amount of The Thin Red Line. Last time I saw that I went off every five minutes, with the scenery and the noble comrades and the waste and the hope...

Laugh: Recently I'd say the scene in Casanova when he's interviewing a lady and she says her husband's away at the Punic wars. He says that they were thousands of years ago and she says, in a refined accent "He's been gone a very long time". It still cracks me up. Also the bit with the chiar against the door in The Big Lebowski

- confess your deep fandom shame. It's good for the soul.

Can't quite, but I have fangirled people less cool than Ronan Keating is all I'll say.

- what upcoming movie/TV show/book/comic/whatever are you excited about?

GOF, because I never mind the things most people complain about, I just love the flawless casting no matter how much the parts have been cut.

- who's the best character in The Simpsons?

Smithers. Poor man's got coathangers everywhere he looks.

- obscure character love yay! Who needs the love, in any fandom?

See above re: Barty. Not 'love' as he's a neevil psycho but look at the material! He's Marauders! He's now! He's a slug-club candidate if I ever saw one! He's got freckles!

- and speaking of obscure, tell me what rare fandoms you have, or what you'd like to see good fic for.

Not enough Dalek-only stories out there.

Just to make your brain work extra hard, I won't give any reference to the questions, I'll just answer them.

I saw The Island last night, and while I wouldn't say I loved it, it was much better than I expected, having heard some poor reviews. I actually rather enjoyed it, and we discussed it at length afterwards. Ok, so some of the discussion was at the level of "Who would you shag shoot or marry: Beanie, Ewan, Djimon?". Both in and out of character. I think there was general consensus that Beanie being evil is sexy. We also discussed more sensible things, like the likelyhood of holographic nets and jet bikes in 15 years. Jet bikes are highly likely, holograms less so.

Mal and Han. Not in a dirty way - well, ok, maybe in a dirty way. But just my two favourite space pirates having adventures together. Could Serenity make the Kessel run faster than the Falcon? Or, for a more smutty suggestion, Captain Jack/Captain Jack. And no, that isn't masturbation. I'm refering to the pirate and the sluttiest space slut ever to grace the TARDIS.

I'm not currently using some of my favourite icons, but of those I am using I rather like this one.

Well, Buffy certainly had some cracking finales, but I was always a fan of the cliffhangar ST:TNG finales, which would be concluded in the first ep of the new season. Ooh, or Anasazi, the X-Files season 2 finale. That was a great season closer.

The moment in Passion (BtvS season 2) when Buffy hands the phone to Willow and slumps down and then Willow listens for a moment before bursting into tears. Willow crying always sets me off, so the end of Tabula Rasa is also a tear-jerker. Oh, and the lobby scene from Matrix always puts a big insane grin on my face. What, so I'm a bit odd?

I once wrote a TNG/X-Files crossover fic. It had Mulder liking Troi and Riker getting jealous. Named and shamed.

Well, I've seen Serenity - who wants to touch me? - so I guess the things I'm looking forward to now are season 2 of Lost, year 2 of Astonishing X-Men, Narnia, King Kong, and X3, though that's a way off. And I'm excited by the mere thought of PJ making The Hobbit or a film of the Odyssey starring Sean Bean. Oh, and The Christmas Invasion of course, followed by series 2 of Doctor Who. Oh, and series 3 of Spooks starts on monday - that should be good.

Lisa.

Glorfindel. He has a nasty habit of being omitted from adaptations, the poor little bugger.

Hmm, I'm not sure that I have any obscure fandoms. I guess I'm a little mainstream in my choice of fandoms. Does Red Dwarf count as obscure?

I really really loved Audition. Freaked my shit out.

Number 6 (Prisoner)/Number 6 (BSG)/#6 (Doctor Who)

Done.

Doctor Who - The Parting of the Ways

Almost Famous. Both. Brilliant film.

I used to ship Spike/Tara.

- what upcoming movie/TV show/book/comic/whatever are you excited about? (I think we'll take Serenity as a given...)

King Kong. Peter Jackson owned my soul long before LotR.

- who's the best character in The Simpsons? This would be a poll if I weren't lazy. (It's Reverend Lovejoy, of coure, but I would also accept Sideshow Mel or the gestalt entity Carl-and-Lenny.)

Comic Book Guy. Best. Character. EVER.

- obscure character love yay! Who needs the love, in any fandom?

Parker Abrams. Well, not the love, but attention. And nurturing.

- and speaking of obscure, tell me what rare fandoms you have, or what you'd like to see good fic for.

The Prisoner. There needs to be more Prisoner fic.

I loved - Stage beauty – pretty people and sexual confusion and theatre!
- is there a fic/pairing/scenario/cracked out AU, in any fandom or crossover, that plainly needs to be written but so far hasn't, to your great distress?

AU where Angel is a count somewhere in Europe who on his wedding day killed a gypsy and was cursed with leprosy and had to leave for the holy land and be a crusader, and his young countess, Buffy has to rule the land and defend it from the hordes of orks, Faith is a runaway nun, and Spike is a vagabond student traveling from Bologna and staying indefinitely at Buffy’s court.

- show off your favourite icon.

Done. Perhaps not my favorite, but the one that tickles me most at the moment. It's Gabe Kapler of the Boston Red Sox and it came out of a late-night joke with [livejournal.com profile] alixnoorchis. Still cracks me up every time I use it.

- if there's a TV/movie/book moment that just gets to you, whether to make you bawl your eyes out or fall about laughing, tell me about it.

Have you ever read Tigana by Guy Gavriel Kay? This is by far my favorite book ever. The basic premise is that the sorcerer king Brandin attacks the kingdom of Tigana and, in the attack, his son is killed. His vengeance is swift and horrible. He defeats them, kills the royal family (supposedly) and makes it so if the name of their kingdom is spoken, it cannot be understood by anyone. He hates them so much he wipes the very name of their kingdom, their people, from memory.

There is a moment, in the end, when Brandin is fighting for his life. Desperate for power, he releases all his spells. Once again the name of Tigana can be understood. But.. he releases one other spell. Rhun, the king's fool, a twisted wreck of a man, who serves as the outlet for Brandin's emotions and has no will of his own, is free. Free to kill Brandin in revenge for what Brandin did to his kingdom, for Rhun was once king of Tigana.

Every. Single. Time. Breaks me.

- and speaking of obscure, tell me what rare fandoms you have, or what you'd like to see good fic for.

Wanted and The Inside. Also I would have loved it had there been more Playmakers fic.

So, I keep meaning to do this at work and then not. So I'm doing it now while my laundry is going.

- if there's a TV/movie/book moment that just gets to you, whether to make you bawl your eyes out or fall about laughing, tell me about it.

I get teary at tons and tons of stuff, but the one that always comes to mind is the end of A Tale of Two Cities. (My mommy read that to me when I was like 4, bitches!)

[And I hate Tracey, but everytime I hear that voiceover in "The Message" I get all teary.]

[smooshes fandom questions together]

Reading your Metaphysics of the Provocateur (http://www.exitseraphim.net/nina/metaphysics.html) made me want fic in which Nina goes to Mexico like Angel tells her to and has anonymous semi-abusive stranger sex.

Someone should write Jaye/Aaron (Wonderfalls sibcest) with lots of nihilistic philosophizing so that don't have to take a crash course in philosophy and write it myself.

There should be more fic dealing with Dawn's Key-ness.

I've moved away from an interest in a lot of the crackpairings I would have answered this question with in the past.

I keep finding cracked out fics that fill a need I hadn't realized I had.

Assorted classes last year gave me vague bunnies/desires to see someone write pairings:

Sarah Woodruff/Christina Rossetti (The French Lieutenant’s Woman - John Fowles)
Tess/Marian (Tess of the d’Urbervilles - Thomas Hardy)
Jane Eyre/Helen Burns, Helen Burns/Miss Temple, Jane Eyre/Helen Burns/Miss Temple (Jane Eyre - Charlotte Brontë)
Jane Eyre/Mad!Bertha (Jane Eyre - Charlotte Brontë)

Also: Angela Carter’s “The Bloody Chamber”: I want fanfic in which Bluebeard isn't a murderer and in which they negotiate a really hot kinky sexlife. Alternatively, kinky post-canon fic.

Other random fandom:
Pallas/Athena
Matilda/Miss Honey (Matilda, Roald Dahl)
Snow White/huntsman

There are lots of random bunnies I intend to write at some point (some of which are on the above list).

P.S. Lisa is totally the best Simpsons character.

I lurk here on occasion...so, hi!

- what's the last movie you saw that you really loved or really hated?

La Grande Illusion, by Jean Renoir: loved it to teeny tiny bits.

- is there a fic/pairing/scenario/cracked out AU, in any fandom or crossover, that plainly needs to be written but so far hasn't, to your great distress?

Biggles/Giles; alternatively, Biggles/Captain Jack (Harkness and/or Sparrow). If we're going for RPS, Biggles/Jon Stewart would work just fine too.

- show off your favourite icon.

Current favourite, I think!

- what's your favourite season finale of any show ever? Feel free to spoil me.

Graduation Day, Part 2 from Buffy - I just love the part where the students all stand up and fight so much. Plus, it has Larry, my favourite tertiary character ever.

- if there's a TV/movie/book moment that just gets to you, whether to make you bawl your eyes out or fall about laughing, tell me about it.

There are too many to count. I'm a big suck and cry over everything, real or manipulative.

- confess your deep fandom shame. It's good for the soul.

I read pretty much every smutty Nine/Rose story out there, even if they're absolutely awful and just end up making me snort with laughter and embarrassment.

- what upcoming movie/TV show/book/comic/whatever are you excited about?

I'm not looking forward to Serenity...not a fan. But I am dying for The Christmas Invasion, the new season of Corner Gas, and in gaming news, the Mario Dance Dance Revolution game, coming out in October!

- who's the best character in The Simpsons?

Crazy-hard question...I think I'll have to go with Doctor Nick. I'd also suggest the good Reverend, Lisa, and Bumblebee Man.

- obscure character love yay! Who needs the love, in any fandom?

Dean Thomas from HP, Susan Bones and Hannah Abbott (and really, all the Hufflepuffs) from HP, Larry from BtVS, Davesh (the male controller in BW/PotW) from DW, Harry Sullivan (omgcrush!) from old-skool DW, Haleh, Chuny, and Malik (the secondary nurses) from ER, and my usual statement of Ringo was teh best Beatle OMG!!11

- and speaking of obscure, tell me what rare fandoms you have, or what you'd like to see good fic for

CORNER GAS! It's a Canadian comedy set in Saskatchewan, and it's funnier than anything in the whole world. Seriously. Though, I don't really want fic for it, because it doesn't need it. A fandom I do want fic for, however, is Biggles. Preferably crossover slash, since he can travel in time (according to the movie).

This was fun, thanks! And I'm finally going to get around to friending you, no pressure to reciprocate, but then I can lurk more often. :)

- what's the last movie you saw that you really loved or really hated?

A Series of Unfortunate Events. Loved it. And I still haven't gotten over watching Hannibal at two in the morning that one time; I didn't think I was ever going to sleep again.

- is there a fic/pairing/scenario/cracked out AU, in any fandom or crossover, that plainly needs to be written but so far hasn't, to your great distress?

Why oh why oh why is there not more really disturbing Holtz/Justine?
And on the AU front -- my secret hope has always been that someday, someone will write Angel/Lindsey/Lilah set in an AU Season One where Angel really couldn't refuse their offer.

- what's your favourite season finale of any show ever? Feel free to spoil me.

"Home." I know, I know, seriously un-original, but... Connor! Wesley! Lilah! I'm getting all choked up just thinking about it.

- if there's a TV/movie/book moment that just gets to you, whether to make you bawl your eyes out or fall about laughing, tell me about it. (*) (Note that this is a footnote mark, not a single pierced nipple boobicon.)

Jayne's "chain of command" speech in "The Train Job"; Wilson's voice breaking on the word "friendship" in "Babies and Bathwater"; the scene with Daryl Hannah in the hospital in Kill Bill 1 doesn't strictly fall under either category, but it's the awesomest thing in forever, and, on the obscurity front, how about this:

The day when I can't be comforted by the plot summary of the Jacobean revenge tragedy in The Crying of Lot 49 will be the day I just give up altogether. Seriously. Funniest thing ever.

- confess your deep fandom shame. It's good for the soul.

I will read anything, no matter how atrocious the characterization, if the sex scenes are good and the writing doesn't actually make me cry. That, and the Anne Rice thing when I was fourteen (although, in self-defense, I was fourteen...)

- what upcoming movie/TV show/book/comic/whatever are you excited about? (I think we'll take Serenity as a given...)

Season Two of House, of course. Brokeback Mountain. There must be others, but I'm too lazy to think of them.

- who's the best character in The Simpsons? This would be a poll if I weren't lazy. (It's Reverend Lovejoy, of coure, but I would also accept Sideshow Mel or the gestalt entity Carl-and-Lenny.)

Maggie. She looks like a little starfish in her snowsuit, and awww.

- obscure character love yay! Who needs the love, in any fandom?

Cuddy, obviously. Mac, from VMars. Wash. Thessaly, from Sandman. Susan Death. Doyle (not you, the character).

- and speaking of obscure, tell me what rare fandoms you have, or what you'd like to see good fic for.

The remake of The Manchurian Candidate needs more love. Seriously. I mean, apart from the excessively disturbing canonical incest, it's also the slashiest thing ever. Closer -- I can't believe fandom didn't jump all over that one, just for the chat-room scene alone. And someone needs to start a ficathon for pairings generated by that "twelve characters" meme.

- what's the last movie you saw that you really loved or really hated?
Ray is really, really beautiful, though I don't know if I LOVE it. I do, however, really love Napoleon Dynamite.

- is there a fic/pairing/scenario/cracked out AU, in any fandom or crossover, that plainly needs to be written but so far hasn't, to your great distress?
A Doctor Who 05/Firefly crossover that isn't ridiculously funny or ridiculously depressing, where Jack Harkness falls for River Tam in that really cute childhood crush way...see my fic wishlist.

- show off your favourite icon.
At the moment, it's the one I'm using as default.

- what's your favourite season finale of any show ever? Feel free to spoil me.
Star Trek: TNG did the season finale REALLY well--Best of Both Worlds, Descent, and of course, All Good Things are all really good. Futurama's series finale is so very, very cute, and Cowboy Bebop's makes me cry. Rumour has it that the Tarantino CSIs are great, but I was in the UK at the time and didn't see them.

- if there's a TV/movie/book moment that just gets to you, whether to make you bawl your eyes out or fall about laughing, tell me about it.
Minority Report, where Agatha tells Lara and John Anderton about what their son would have been like, had his future caused him to live...is probably the most emotionally real thing Spielberg has done in years.

- confess your deep fandom shame. It's good for the soul.
I secretly like to read HPcest fics from time to time.

- what upcoming movie/TV show/book/comic/whatever are you excited about?
I'm actually kinda psyched for V for Vendetta, 'cause I think there needs to be more SF movies; Tennant!Doctor, of course; Goblet of Fire, vaguely; S.M. Stirling's new series (the first book is 'Dies the Fire') has another book coming out, which is exciting.

- who's the best character in The Simpsons? This would be a poll if I weren't lazy.
I actually have a soft spot for Ralph Wiggum, when I'm not busy identifying with Lisa.

- obscure character love yay! Who needs the love, in any fandom?
Well, Rose/Gwyneth needs to happen, yo. Also, people need to stop writing Tonks from Harry Potter as either completely off her head or a sappy romantic, and for god's sake, give Jon Archer from Enterprise a life.

- and speaking of obscure, tell me what rare fandoms you have, or what you'd like to see good fic for.
I've written Minority Report fic; I'd also love to see a fanfic that goes into detail about how Sarah Connor (from Terminator) went batshit between the two films. Yes. There are only two Terminator films.

- is there a fic/pairing/scenario/cracked out AU, in any fandom or crossover, that plainly needs to be written but so far hasn't, to your great distress?

Dr. House/Dr. Cox, of House and Scrubs, respectively. I mean, they might be too alike to do anything but despise each other, but it would be glorious.
Simon/Captain Jack, of Firefly and Dr. Who.
I'm all about the crossovers today. And, jesus, Lindsey McDonald/Alex Krycek.

OT3=love.

Angel and Everwood's Home. Angel's, because it had just about *everything* I could have ever wanted, and Everwood's because it was perfect.
