Sep. 6th, 2005 10:38 pmAnybody feel like delurking? Or pretending to lurk so you can delurk and comment?
I would like to know any of the following: (unnumbered since I don't expect people to answer them all)
- what's the last movie you saw that you really loved or really hated?
- is there a fic/pairing/scenario/cracked out AU, in any fandom or crossover, that plainly needs to be written but so far hasn't, to your great distress?
- show off your favourite icon.
- what's your favourite season finale of any show ever? Feel free to spoil me.
- if there's a TV/movie/book moment that just gets to you, whether to make you bawl your eyes out or fall about laughing, tell me about it. (*) (Note that this is a footnote mark, not a single pierced nipple boobicon.)
- confess your deep fandom shame. It's good for the soul.
- what upcoming movie/TV show/book/comic/whatever are you excited about? (I think we'll take Serenity as a given...)
- who's the best character in The Simpsons? This would be a poll if I weren't lazy. (It's Reverend Lovejoy, of coure, but I would also accept Sideshow Mel or the gestalt entity Carl-and-Lenny.)
- obscure character love yay! Who needs the love, in any fandom?
- and speaking of obscure, tell me what rare fandoms you have, or what you'd like to see good fic for.
(*) My emotionally crippling moments: I mentioned this when
And don't get me started on Lilo and Stitch, because then my rampant immaturity will be out there for all the world to see.
ETA: I'm off to bed so if you don't get an immediate response, remember your hitchhiker's guide advice and don't panic. I'll be answering these tomorrow. But keep your towel on standby just in case.

on 2005-09-06 10:06 pm (UTC)Connie and Carla Do L.A.. But I can't decide whether I love it or hate it. I think I mostly love it for the sibcest involving
MulderDavid Duchovney's character.- is there a fic/pairing/scenario/cracked out AU, in any fandom or crossover, that plainly needs to be written but so far hasn't, to your great distress?
...Yes? There are many. Elizabeth Weir/CJ Cregg being my current top Crossover OTP That Must Be Written NOW!
- show off your favourite icon.
'tis used.
- what's your favourite season finale of any show ever? Feel free to spoil me.
There are a LOT that I love like whoa. Current favorite is BtVS S5, which made both me and my little sister cry when we rewatched it. With the sacrifice and the jumping and the oh-god-i-love-them-all waaaah! She saved the world a lot.
- if there's a TV/movie/book moment that just gets to you, whether to make you bawl your eyes out or fall about laughing, tell me about it.
I'm with you on Lilo and Stitch, though I'm not sure if this is what you mean -- the part where Stitch is left all alone in the rain and there's the photo of Lilo's parents? Makes me sob like a baby, oh yes.
- confess your deep fandom shame. It's good for the soul.
I know I'm not alone in this, but I google really hideous ooc PWP for wank material.
- what upcoming movie/TV show/book/comic/whatever are you excited about? (I think we'll take Serenity as a given...)
Dammit, Serenity is a given? Well, the new seasons of House and VMars... Bones, sort of, but only because I adore guest starrage way too much and David Boreanaz! Walking around in the sunlight!
- who's the best character in The Simpsons? This would be a poll if I weren't lazy. (It's Reverend Lovejoy, of coure, but I would also accept Sideshow Mel or the gestalt entity Carl-and-Lenny.)
It's been a long, long time since I've seen it, but Lisa, or maybe Ned Flanders.
- obscure character love yay! Who needs the love, in any fandom?
In West Wing, Laurie.
In Stargate, SG-1: Robert Kinsey.
In Buffy: the Vampire Slayer: The Lesbians In the Bronze from "Smashed"
In Angel: Jack 'n' Sam, the tragic gay lovers from "Provider"
- and speaking of obscure, tell me what rare fandoms you have, or what you'd like to see good fic for.
Election! I long for good Tammy fic. I long for any Tammy fic, especially Tammy/Faith fic I haven't written myself.

on 2005-09-06 10:07 pm (UTC)- what's the last movie you saw that you really loved or really hated?
Hm. I kind of hated The Poseidon Adventure with a firey passion. "I, Gene Hackman, am a Great Man. Therefore everyone else sucks, and you should follow me!" He was as bad as William Shatner and Charleton Heston. Ugh.
I re-watched Lost in Translation and loved it all over again.
- is there a fic/pairing/scenario/cracked out AU, in any fandom or crossover, that plainly needs to be written but so far hasn't, to your great distress?
::thinks hard::
I don't read much fic anymore. There should be Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell fic, though. Nothing sexual. I'd just love to read more of that 'verse. I guess that's not very cracktastic. I kinda dig canon pairings.
- show off your favourite icon.
I love all my icons. DONT MAKE ME CHOOSE
This is my newest pretty one. It says dong(3) ma(5)?, which means, "Do you understand?" They say it in Firefly all the time.
- what's your favourite season finale of any show ever? Feel free to spoil me.
I have such a bad memory re: pop culture. I don't remember much before a couple of years ago, unless I really go fishing in the back of my brain. Therefore, I am saying that the Firefly season finale was pretty kickass. Actually, the Star Trek: Next Generation one was awesome as well.
- if there's a TV/movie/book moment that just gets to you, whether to make you bawl your eyes out or fall about laughing, tell me about it. (*) (Note that this is a footnote mark, not a single pierced nipple boobicon.)
Dancer in the Dark leaves me totally debilitated. I've cried in all the original Star Wars movies. American Beauty, Shawshank Redemption, The Lion King, White Fang -- TONS of movies make me cry.
Laugh? The Aristocrats made me hurt from laughing so hard. So did God of Cookery (by and starring the same guy who made Shaolin Soccer).
- confess your deep fandom shame. It's good for the soul.
I like reasonably well-written Mary Sue fic.
- what upcoming movie/TV show/book/comic/whatever are you excited about? (I think we'll take Serenity as a given...)
Veronica Mars season 2. Battlestar Galactica on Friday. New Doctor Who in December. Goblet of Fire, whenever that comes out.
- obscure character love yay! Who needs the love, in any fandom?
Cho Chang. Martian Man Hunter.
- and speaking of obscure, tell me what rare fandoms you have, or what you'd like to see good fic for.
I think that goes under the Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell answer. I've been into 19th-century lit lately, so anything in that style would be cool. And I'd love to read Justice League Unlimited fic, actually. I haven't gone looking for it.

It hurts me deeply that people aren't writing more DEBS/Jossverse crossovers. Lesbian spies in plaid skirts, people. Lesbian supervillains. Where is the love, people? Also, Faith/Nadia-from-Alias should be done, too.
Also, I would give my symbolic left nut for some more Starbuck/Roslin or Starbuck/Tigh.
confess your deep fandom shame. It's good for the soul.
I did a whole post about how I love unplanned pregnancy fic when the unplanned are the responsible adults, and not like, "OMG, Buffy R having Spikez twin vampire babyeez!" There is my shame. I still like the idea of Spymommy chowing down on Cheetos while Marshall tries to give Jack parenting tips.
what upcoming movie/TV show/book/comic/whatever are you excited about?
I'm oddly jazzed for Narnia, the fact there's going to be a sequel to the Cate Blanchett Elizabeth is very cool, and I really hope Kitchen Confidential doesn't suck, cuz the book was awesome.
who's the best character in The Simpsons?
I kind of love Bumblebee Man.
obscure character love yay! Who needs the love, in any fandom? All my minor characters are well loved; I just want more Laura Roslin love. Where love = "lots of fic with smut in it that doesn't involve Edward James Olmos's ass, because that just makes me think of the Family Guy about EJO and that kind of wrecks smut."
And I end with another pimp for DEBS: Canon lesbians! Hot canon lesbians! Devin Aoki! Scud! Why this isn't a major femslash fandom, or at least being crossed over like hotcakes, I do not know.... [/whine]

I am. Actually, I picked a random one.
- what's your favourite season finale of any show ever? Feel free to spoil me.
See, I have never seen Blake 7 for some fairly complex reasons but I want to because of all those channel4 and Sky1 best of lists that have shown me the series finale so many times.
I need to go to bed, I am stopping.

on 2005-09-06 10:12 pm (UTC)Maybe I'm overtired, but my brain went to a SHatner/Heston RPS place, and now I will never be clean again.
My housemate
Cho Chang. Martian Man Hunter.
OTP! (It honestly just took me about three minutes to realise you meant J'Onn J'Onzz and not Marvin the Martian from the Bugs Bunny cartoons.)
That's a gorgeous icon.

on 2005-09-06 10:13 pm (UTC)My favorite Simpsons character is Mr. Burns.
Mr. B: "Oh, and one more thing. You must find the jade monkey before the next full moon."
S: "Actually sir, we found the jade monkey. It was in your glove compartment."
Mr. B: "And the road maps, and ice scraper?"
S: "They were in there, too, sir."
Mr. B: "Eeexcellent. It's all falling into place."

on 2005-09-06 10:15 pm (UTC)I love the green guy. His powers rock. Admittedly, Flash is my favorite, but M.M.H. is 2nd. And then Wonderwoman.
Ooh, that's something else I'm stoked about: whenever Joss gets his ass in gear and writes Wonderwoman, I'll be very excited!

on 2005-09-06 10:16 pm (UTC)To my shame I've only seen the BSG TV movie, and that was a while ago; she's the hot messiah-president who was the hot mother from Donnie Darko, yes? I need to catch up on the series, but she definitely needs more love. For hotness and messianic qualities alone.
*googles DEBS* I think I might have seen half of that at a con. Must rent it see the rest. The cover makes it look like Bring It On Goes to Spy School, which I am all in favour of.

on 2005-09-06 10:18 pm (UTC)POTW makes me bawl though I still love Dalek even more. Best 45 minutes ever.
The fic I would die of joy if I found it: Two/Jamie/Zoe meet up with Nine/Rose/Jack and there's Daleks and mucho time travel and locations and possibly some Iccccccce Warriors too.

on 2005-09-06 10:19 pm (UTC)I would happily watch the Simpsons if it was all Mr. Burns and Reverend Lovejoy. With guestage from Bumblebee Man.

on 2005-09-06 10:21 pm (UTC)1: March of the Penguins. Wait, no, Blade Runner and A Very Long Engagement on video.
2: I think every bizarre pairing and AU that my limited imagination can come up with has been written by now.
3: This is me! When I went to Scotland! There's Loch Ness! I swam in it with drunken Australian backpackers, yes I did.
4: Last five minutes of all seven Buffy seasons and all five Angel seasons were entertaining. (I'm sorry, this is not new information to you at all, is it?)
5: Tara getting killed. Didn't help that they showed her death scene in the "Previously on Buffy" recaps for the next ten episodes or so. (Of course, being a Stoic Man of Stoicness, fiction rarely affects me beyond, "ah, that's a shame. Poor imaginary person. Oh, look, the survivors are dealing with the tragedy badly. Stupid fictional people. Let's watch.")
6: I know a ridiculous amount of Star Wars trivia, and am currently regularly contributing to starwars.wikicities.com, which is like Wikipedia but only for Star Wars.
7: Lionel Hutz. Or the sarcastic salesman guy (you know, he sold the Simpsons their TV, and exchanged the Comic Book Guy's Ultimate Belt).
8: That sarcastic salesman guy needs a name.
9: Rare fandoms? There's this old (1950's or so) series of science fiction novels by James Blish called "Cities in Flight". The stories themselves aren't all that impressive (though several steps above some SF of the era) but the premise -- the cities of an economically depressed Earth strap FTL antigravity engines to themselves and travel the galaxy looking for work -- is just super cool.

Is there a fic/pairing/scenario/cracked out AU, in any fandom or crossover, that plainly needs to be written but so far hasn't, to your great distress?
Nick Knight (Forever Knight)/Angel. Mostly because I think even Angel would tell Nick to OMG get over the angst. and then I would laugh.
show off your favourite icon.
This one, right now.
what's your favourite season finale of any show ever? Feel free to spoil me.
There are worlds out there where the sky is burning, and the sea's asleep, and the rivers dream. People made of smoke and cities made of song. Somewhere there's danger, somewhere there's injustice, somewhere else the tea's getting cold. Come on Ace, we've got work to do.
If there's a TV/movie/book moment that just gets to you, whether to make you bawl your eyes out or fall about laughing, tell me about it.
But I don't understand! I don't understand how this all happens. How we go through this. I mean, I knew her, and then she's, there's just a body, and I don't understand why she just can't get back in it and not be dead anymore. It's stupid. It's mortal and stupid. And, and Xander's crying and not talking, and, and I was having fruit punch, and I thought, well, Joyce will never have any more fruit punch ever, and she'll never have eggs, or yawn or brush her hair, not ever, and no one will explain to me why.
(*) (Note that this is a footnote mark, not a single pierced nipple boobicon.)
*is sad*
confess your deep fandom shame. It's good for the soul.
Yis. (http://www.livejournal.com/users/mpoetess/438904.html)
What upcoming movie/TV show/book/comic/whatever are you excited about? (I think we'll take Serenity as a given...)
Brokeback Mountain. And Serenity.
Who's the best character in The Simpsons?
Lisa. Except sometimes when it's Sideshow Bob.
obscure character love yay! Who needs the love, in any fandom?
Turlough; oldskool Doctor Who.
and speaking of obscure, tell me what rare fandoms you have, or what you'd like to see good fic for.
All of the semi-rare fandoms I have, I've been very lazy about seeking out fic for; to be honest unless it falls across my friendslist, I am not hurting for fic in my non-Joss fandoms. Stuff I like that is semi-obscure, though... American Gothic (which I actually have read a virtual season for.) ... um. Margaret Mahy novels? I would love to see good fanfic for The Changeover.

And the monster didn't eat you? You had a narrow escape there.

- what's your favourite season finale of any show ever? Feel free to spoil me.
Battlestar Galactica S1, foreverandalways.
- confess your deep fandom shame. It's good for the soul.
I don't have any fandoms I'm ashamed of, but fannishness makes me watch things of unbelievable suckiness just because X from Y is in it.
- what upcoming movie/TV show/book/comic/whatever are you excited about?
VM and Narnia.

on 2005-09-06 10:29 pm (UTC)BSG first season finale. Holy shit that was good. And I had to wait 2 weeks to see it, avoiding both net, friends and work collegues.
Lump in throat - Diarmuid's death (and Coll's subsequent reaction) in the Fionavar Trilogy. Gleeful - Simon jumping off the balcony to get to River - I can trace the Firefly love to that exact moment. I guess Garak introducing himself to Bashir should be there too then.
Voyager slash. Deep shame. Barely watched the show. Consummed the slash avidly.
A Feast for Crows by George RR Martin. Coming out *at last* even if there will be no Jon.
Willie
I would read virtually any fanfic set in the above mentioned A song of ice and fire universe. Or Tamora Pierce's Lioness Quartet (well, ok, only if it involved George). Or Vorkosigian verse.
Oh, in case you wanted to know, friended you for the Dr Who stuff.

on 2005-09-06 10:31 pm (UTC)Doctor Who has made me scream twice, actually scream out loud at the TV - when the spider jumped onto Romana's face in one of the cliffhangers in State of Decay and when it looked like Seven was dead in Survival. And I knew he wasn't dead, because the first DW I ever saw was the TV movie when I was 13, and he dies in that (I still haven't got up the nerve to watch that scene again) but I was still utterly devastated. Then that lovely speech at the end made me bawl.
confess your deep fandom shame. It's good for the soul.
Yis.
Well, you know my feelings on #1 *g*
Turlough deserves so much love. And fic. Especially Turlough/Five. I have a slight complex about needing to at least superficially understand cricket before I try writing Five, but I'll be doing this at some point. (Have you heard the audio drama Loups-Garoux? Turlough and Five at the Rio carnaval, with werewolves and much slashy h/c.)

on 2005-09-06 10:32 pm (UTC)I want to know why there isn't a fic where Buffy and the gang find out that there's some bizarre magic thing going on in Britain, so they go and investigate it because there isn't a council there any more and it turns out that grown-up Harry Potter and the other gang are there being Rogue Dark Wizard Hunters or something and then they fight evil and Buffy and Harry get it on.
Best season finale ever = Doctor Who, Parting Of The Ways.
The best character in The Simpsons is Nelson. He makes me laugh.

on 2005-09-06 10:35 pm (UTC)For me it's the Lilo and Stitch bit where he's in the woods at night with The Ugly Duckling and he's waiting for his family to come and find him like in the story and he looks up and says "I'm lost..." I can't watch that bit without dissolving into tears. Ever.
I saw the sequel this weekend, was pleasantly surprised to enjoy it as much as the first one.
Bones, sort of, but only because I adore guest starrage way too much and David Boreanaz! Walking around in the sunlight!
In my head Bones stars DB as a not-unlike-Angel forensic pathologist. And Boone from Lost is his assistant. They have wacky mishaps and fight crime.
In Angel: Jack 'n' Sam, the tragic gay lovers from "Provider"
Ooh, yes.
