This has to be the only time the BBC has ever used the phrase "plague of ferocious badgers" in a news report:

'British forces have denied rumours that they released a plague of ferocious badgers into the Iraqi city of Basra.'

Yup, that one made the pages of USA Today.

It's a smokescreen for the deployment of the elite squirrel batallion.

Sometimes you can just hear the journalist giggling as they type...

The squirrels need no smokescreen to go in unnoticed, for they have their l33t ninja skills to conceal them!

"We can categorically state that we have not released man-eating badgers into the area."

How did the press officer say this without bursting out in laughter?

[identity profile] darkpoole.livejournal.com 2007-07-12 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I first read that as "a plague of ferocious bludgers."

Which honestly did not make it any weirder.

It's also one of those rare times I immediately and categorically believe a denial issued by a military.

Someone had a rather amusing day at work, me thinks.

the headline is pretty glorious too....i imagine it's a very special day for a copywriter when they get to use alliteration AND badgers in the same headline.
