So I'm reading another of the Eighth Doctor books, Camera Obscura, which is set in Victorian London. I'd skimmed it, and happened upon a bit where Fitz is fussing at the Doctor, who sarcastically says "yes, Da." Ha, I said to myself, remembering many Spike/Angel fics, I bet this writer's a Spike fan.

Then I get to this bit:

[Anji] was smiling politely at an earnest, puffy-haired young man in a brown suit, William somebody or other, who had been introduced to Chiltern as a poet. He was chattering on at her - probably reciting some of his no doubt ghastly poetry.

*dies of fandom collision*

(Well, vampires do exist in the Who universe, and Dingoes Ate My Baby have already been name-checked in one of the novels, so I suppose anything's possible...)

Clearly it was cut because Russell remembered Buffy is really real in the DW universe *g* (I am rationalising the fact that Andrew on Buffy is a Doctor Who fan. Obviously the Peter Cushing version still exists in the DW and Buffy universes...)

Andrew is a Doctor Who fan? Really? Was there a canon reference?

In Smashed, when they're left sitting with Spike, Andrew attempts conversation
http://www.buffy-vs-angel.com/buffy_tran_109.shtml
ANDREW: You're English, right?
SPIKE: (frowns at him suspiciously) Yeah.
ANDREW: I've seen every episode of Doctor Who. (Spike continues frowning) Not Red Dwarf, though, 'cause, um...
JONATHAN: 'Cause it's not out yet on DVD.
ANDREW: Right. It's not out on ... (weakly) DVD.

HEEE. Oh, that is fabulous. And you know he would have started explaining about the lost episodes and Shada, if you left him there long enough...

You have no idea how many times I have watched that scene.

Oh, Andrew, I love you so.

Well, for me, I tend to just go with what makes crossovers viable: take, for instance, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, which stars Brad Pitt, but also features a character wearing a Fight Club movie t-shirt.

But that's just me. Other people might be, you know, sane, and not place high priority on crossover viability. *G*

I forget the exact line and I don't have the scriptbook here but it's something about the Doctor asking what the Dalek found on the internet - "lots of naked pictures? People posting about that Buffy revival?"

Ahahahahaha!

(you could make the case that the series didn't happen until many many many years later than it happens in our world, and, therefore, that's what people are posting on the Internet then.

But that would be astoundingly fanwanky, and would prevent the obvious "Rose watches lots of Buffy and has spent most of her life looking for adventure like that and did a lot of What-Would-Buffy-Do thinking" ties.)
