So I'm reading another of the Eighth Doctor books, Camera Obscura, which is set in Victorian London. I'd skimmed it, and happened upon a bit where Fitz is fussing at the Doctor, who sarcastically says "yes, Da." Ha, I said to myself, remembering many Spike/Angel fics, I bet this writer's a Spike fan.

Then I get to this bit:

[Anji] was smiling politely at an earnest, puffy-haired young man in a brown suit, William somebody or other, who had been introduced to Chiltern as a poet. He was chattering on at her - probably reciting some of his no doubt ghastly poetry.

*dies of fandom collision*

(Well, vampires do exist in the Who universe, and Dingoes Ate My Baby have already been name-checked in one of the novels, so I suppose anything's possible...)

I giggled a lot. And tried to remember which Spuffy BNF wrote a Doctor Who book, because I'm sure I remember one.

I'm about 100 pages into it. There is something unspeakably awesome about a book where the Doctor's masterplan for saving the world is "I will marry a 13-year-old magical prostitute, yays"

Oh, God, they are MADE OF CRACK. Let's see, there's:
- Eighth Doctor/Alan Turing RPS, in a book that also has Graham Greene and Joseph Heller joining the Doctor and Turing in hunting aliens in Dresden;
- Fitz trying to shag Penelope Pitstop, only to find that, being a cartoon, she doesn't have genitalia, while Anji tries to persuade the Scooby Doo gang that if the first six hundred ghosts are the caretaker in a mask, the six hundred and first probably is too;
- the Doctor's new best friend (or, as is very heavily implied, boyfriend) getting kidnapped by sentient tigers who want him to teach them to play the violin;
- a book where a race of poodles changes Earth's most famous fantasy novel so it's about poodles; in this brave new world, The Lord of the Rings was made in 1973, directed by John Waters and starred Bette Davis as Gandalf, Joan Crawford as Saruman and Noel Coward as Aragorn.

I love these books far, far too much.

Really? Cool. I wonder if I'd recognize their name.

I wasn't "in" the Buffy fandom, but boy did I ever read a lot of Spuffy fic back in the day. Dude. In fact, I've been recently re-watching Season 6. Everything before and including Tabula Rasa is so fucking gold. It's somewhere in the middle of Smashed, Wrecked, and Gone where it starts to go awry.
