My presentation went... well, it went. It wasn't the best I've ever done, but I got 70%, so I was able to just collapse in relief and sleep for 16 hours.

I'm sure five of those percentage points were for referencing Star Wars, Star Trek and Buffy.

Anyway, now I just have to start panicking about my thesis, but I'm taking tonight off and catching up on Desperate Housewives. Now that she's gotten over her bewilderment at a dead woman narrating, my mum loves the show. We *never* like the same things, but given that she shares Bree's sometimes-manic fetish for perfection, I suppose it was to be expected. (I continue to love Bree. So much. She'd be the world's most efficient assassin or vampire slayer, or both.)

[livejournal.com profile] shaddyr's been talking about Writercon 2006 and... I'm giving serious thought to going. I mean, if I'm earning money and can get the time off. [livejournal.com profile] connorbeast has insisted that if it's in Vegas again I'm not allowed to drink, because I'll get hammered and decide it's a swell idea to get married.

And the best thing is that rumor has it that Marcia Cross (who plays Bree) is gay, coming out in May, and is possibly dating some other American TV star (possibly the mom from Gilmore Girls) so now the brain goes to Bree: The Best Spy to Ever Get Down With the Ladies.

*brain goes there* In fic, this means that Bree and Lauren or Bree and Irina would need to get down. Bree and Irina would be soulmates 4eva, OMG, in particular.

[identity profile] doyle_sb4.livejournal.com 2005-02-04 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Or Bree and Lauren *and* Irina? (Thinking about it, I'm not sure I've ever seen an episode of Alias with Irina in it. I mean, [livejournal.com profile] connorbeast loves her with the love that is intense and unholy, so I've absorbed most of her life story just by living in the same house as him, but I haven't actually seen her. This must be rectified.)

Also, that's the best rumour ever, and I hope it's true.

[identity profile] jennyo.livejournal.com 2005-02-04 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
No, if there's a threesome, then I'm in a Bree/Lauren/Lilah place, where Bree, her evil attorney, and her evil attorney's girly toy are all having depraved spy sex before Bree is sent out to infiltrate the upper echelons of the NRA before her top secret mission to the farms of Canada.

Or possibly Bree/Lauren/Lindsay from Arrested Development, just because Bree/Lauren + Portia de Rossi? That's some excellent lesbian smut, my friend.

I'm in a Bree/Lauren/Lilah place

That's a happy, happy place.

I think you should write Bree the Vampire Slayer.

You just know she'd carry a portable vacum cleaner around with her for apres-staking.

[identity profile] doyle_sb4.livejournal.com 2005-02-04 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, she would. And she would talk the vampires down until they'd just stand still in bewilderment, quietly waiting for the stake.

[identity profile] paratti.livejournal.com 2005-02-04 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
She'd tidy the hell out of their crypts too.

You.Must.Write.This.Fic.

The world needs it.

You have read yahtzees' Desperate Housewives/Alias/Wife Swap crossover, haven't you? It's better than crack. Link to LJ entry below

I'm in third year of a chemistry degree. *So* not looking forward to thesis year next year. And chemistry geeks are so involved in their own little world I don't think I could even get gratuitous Buffy points because they wouldn't know what it was.

[identity profile] doyle_sb4.livejournal.com 2005-02-04 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Eeek, chemistry. I was utterly hopeless at that at A-Level, though in retrospect I suppose it's good I took it since there's tons of areas in physics where they assume you know all about electron shells and things.

Reading the fic now *g*

[livejournal.com profile] shaddyr's`been talking about Writercon 2006 and... I'm giving serious thought to going.

Hmmmm... you know, I've never ever been to a con, of any sort. I might possibly just consider that one too. When is it and how much is it?

[identity profile] doyle_sb4.livejournal.com 2005-02-04 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I've been to the Belfast cons - to see the Trio and Keith Szarabajka (Holtz) - and they were fun but I'd love to go to one that was more fandom/fanfic orientated. The problem with Writercon is that it's in America (Vegas last time) which is obviously not all that convenient. Unless I can convince my university there's something astronomically important I have to go to Nevada for sometime in summer 2006...

Will absolutely NOT be in Vegas. We're currently looking at other venues, in other places.

What it will be, is fun. :)

Y'know, Belfast's *lovely* in the summer.

If you, um, ignore the Twelfth of July.

And that fact that there are no flights from America.

But apart from that...

[identity profile] veggiebelle.livejournal.com 2005-02-04 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Do go to Writercon! I had a fantastic time at the one last year. It's definitely worth it.

[identity profile] doyle_sb4.livejournal.com 2005-02-04 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I know right now that I'd be unbelievably nervous, mostly that nobody would understand a word coming out of my mouth, but it would be cool to get to meet fandom people.

[identity profile] veggiebelle.livejournal.com 2005-02-04 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Thge beauty of it was that we were all so alike. We might disagree on how we see the shows, or have different characters that we adore, or different fanfic interests and philosophies... but we were still all alike. It was amazing. To have that many people around who talk about this fandom and about writing about it... fantastic.

[identity profile] sadbhyl.livejournal.com 2005-02-05 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, you *must* come to Writercon!! We all turned up there with the same insecurities and had an absolute BLAST. As far as I could tell, no one hid behind the potted plants as threatened. And you certainly wouldn't have the worst accent there. and you wouldn't be from the furthest away! It was an absolutely fabulous experience, and it bums me out no end that they aren't having another one until 2006, when half the people I met last time will have dumped the fandom. *sigh*
