If you could have me write absolutely anything - genre, fandom, character, rating, whatever - if I'm familiar with it or not, what would it be?
#2
Name a character from one of my fandoms and I'll give you (a) three facts about them from my personal canon/fanon, (b) a reason he/she sucks, (c) a reason he/she is awesomecakes, (d) five things that never happened to that character or (e) five people that character never fell in love with and why. You pick the character. I pick the letter.

on 2007-11-30 10:47 pm (UTC)Three facts from my personal Giles fanon:
(1) If there's an apocalypse imminent? It's Giles you want on your team, seriously. Slayer powers/magic/vampire abilities are all well and good, but Giles has got the knowledge to back it up, and the secret contingency plans to kill the 15-year-old Key if it means saving the world. Oh, and he'd been ready for Willow going evil for a while, not because magic=crack but because he's trained to be ready for these things; Faith was hardly the first Slayer to go off the rails.
(2) Is so good in bed that a woman would fly 3000 miles to shag him... no, wait, that's canon! All right, while he was in England in season 6 he was with Olivia from Hush, who accepted the monsters and magic just enough to let it work for a while; they heard a lot of amazing live music and parted as friends.
(3) When he met her, as she crossed through Cleveland on her way across America, he was one of the few people who wasn't surprised that the legendary Martha Jones was so young, although he was astonished to realise that she wasn't a Slayer; he listened to her story about the inhuman immortal she was in love with a certain deja vu and inevitability.

on 2007-12-01 01:06 am (UTC)Um...yum? I didn't just say that. I'm very envious of anyone who can write good Black Books fic because I would love to, but it's too English for my Yank ear to capture correctly.
"If there's an apocalypse imminent? It's Giles you want on your team, seriously."
That's merely fanon? I beg to differ.
"When he met her...he was one of the few people who wasn't surprised that the legendary Martha Jones was so young, although he was astonished to realise that she wasn't a Slayer; he listened to her story about the inhuman immortal she was in love with a certain deja vu and inevitability."
I would absolutely love to read this someday, not that that's hinting or anything. Much.

on 2007-12-01 12:24 am (UTC)(c) a reason he/she is awesomecakes
Because she is.
Oh, reasons. Right, well, leaving aside the fact that she's a scientist (as a female scientist I'm biased in favour of Skience Womenz from the start), she has a backstory that I love. Brought up as essentially a princess in a beautiful, privileged environment where there seems to be no concept at all of evil, she's suddenly ripped out of that and left adrift in the universe. Because Traken gets destroyed, and everybody she knew is dead, and the Master's running around wearing her beloved father's face. Bloody hell, that's Ninth Doctor level emo there. And rather than reacting as I would, i.e. by curling into a ball and staying there forever, Nyssa first makes a home for herself in a life she didn't and probably wouldn't have chosen, travelling with the Doctor, and then leaves the only familiar place and people left in the universe to go somewhere where she can do some good.
And yeah, a lot of this doesn't come through in the old school episodes where she's banished to her room with a headache for episodes at a time, but that's why I love the novels and audios, because they can go back and add layers and explore things - there's a bit in the audio Circular Time where she considers staying on Earth and she has a sharp exchange with the Doctor about her not being a fairytale princess anymore, just a girl in jeans in a pub, and I flailed a bit as I thought YES THAT. That idea of finding somewhere to replace Traken, who Nyssa is being defined by where she ends up - and I love her with the Doctor because evidently brittle, repressed, nerdy aliens travelling the universe together = OTP. Apart from when she's being femslashy with Tegan, which is often.

on 2007-12-01 12:03 am (UTC)Age 17 1953: The Queen's coronation was on telly and Fitz was definitely not gay - definitely - even though he took that guy from the bar where he was working back to his bedsit (and spent the next ten years carefully repressing the incident). John [no last name] talked all the time. Seemed sad, in a very bouncy sort of way. Nice suit, although the trainers were a bit odd.
Age 27 Loads of girls from the local school used to sneak into the club in Soho where Fitz played his guitar. Susan stood out because she was always by herself, and because she danced like she was in another world. Fitz thought she might have been on drugs. He gave her one of his cigarettes out the back of the club one night and would have kissed her only she mentioned her age and he backed off very, very fast.
Age 29 'Dark' Sam never really existed, and he tried hard not to resent the real Sam for not being that fucked up.
Age 32 There were two possible ways it could go with Anji: either she'd just be horrified at the idea and they'd find out if an infinite spaceship was big enough to indefinitely avoid each other, or she'd go for it - in which case she'd be good for him. She'd force him to grow up. Both prospects were too scary to risk.
Age somewhere-in-the-late-30s-possibly Despite being the only other human on Gallifrey during the war - and therefore the only person (bar maybe Romana) who didn't regard him as some sort of alien pet of the Doctor's - he never hit it off with Leela. Too scary, and in a much more knife-through-the-ribs way than Anji.
Trix is not on this list, because he did fall in love with her and it almost worked out until she left the TARDIS and he didn't, which is the kind of thing that can put a strain on a relationship.
And the Doctor's not on there, although after ten or fifteen years puzzling it out Fitz was still unsure exactly what their relationship was when the Time War - and Gallifrey, and the Doctor's eighth life - came to an abrupt end.

on 2007-11-30 10:49 pm (UTC)I've been in such a mood lately for Buffyverse. Something spooky. Buffy/Faith or Gunn/Wes. Doesn't even have to be shippy.
