I am reading up on all the bewildering looms novel-canon stuff on this page, and found this:

A loom consists of millions of fine cords which weave matter and biodata together. For several days spirals of data flow down these cords and are woven into a mesh. From this mesh a Gallifreyan Childe is formed.

*headdesk* *headdesk* *headdesk*

From the colour coding I'm guessing this is either from the Faction Paradox spinoff or completely made up? 'Childe' sets my teeth on edge in Buffyverse fic let alone it invading DW as well...

Also, this bit is marked as telly canon, though I can't remember it: Gallifreyans are not considered full adults untill they are 200 years old

So Romana's a child? Erm, that's just a bit dodgy...

Anything which mentions a "childe" fills me with total horror and loathing. That word should just be banned from the English language.

Apparently is from novels, judging by colour. Which novels, however, is probably the deciding factor.

Childe? WTF?

Mind you, I'm not so keen on this biodata term they keep waving around, either.

So Doctor/Romana is chan? *amused*

Yeah, I've read some of the novels with biodata and found them tres confusing.

So Doctor/Romana is chan? *amused*

If you take this seemingly-arbitrary 200 to be the equivalent of a human being 21 then she's about 15 *g* I'm sure her family just adore the Doctor for running off with her.

hee, at least it isn't "Chylde" That one makes me want to haul off and belt someone with a spanner.

If a lot of people are going to hit this, you might want to point them to the mirror at geocities (http://www.geocities.com/willbswift/) instead - Recognise the URL? meshyfish is my server! :) (sitting a foot from me right now) It's running off my DSL, and at the moment I'm making that squeal by downloading The Secret Adventures of Jules Verne as well as Rise of the Cybermen...so it's gonna respond s-l-o-w-l-y with more than a handful of peeps on it...

Hey, wait, does this mean that Spike and Angel and Drusilla and Darla are all time lords?

(And how unsurprised would I be if that fic existed?)

Sex issues much, Mr Writer?

This appears like one of those few occasions where it appears necessary to exterminate books.

*boggles*

I'm sad they aren't called Loomes now. Is sex really that frightening to people? Or is it just women that are frightening with their ability to produce small people from their bits? Enquiring minds wish to understand the murky depths of the crusty old fanboys.

*la la la, ignoring the Romana child(e) thing, it is too alarming*

Mmm. Is like technobabble for something like DNA, but just a tiny bit implausible in some cases.

Mind you, I am a tiny bit itching to use it in fic, where suitable.

15? Ooops. But now I want to read a story where Romana returns to Gallifrey and her parents are furious with her. :)

[livejournal.com profile] cesario used the term "womb fear" when she discovered Looms. I'm inclined to agree, although simultaneously I can easily see the Time Lords being heavily into genetic engineering and avoiding the messy biology business as far as possible.

I expect that use of the term "childe" is limited to goth Time Teens who flutter about talking about being the Childe of Rassilon and yearning for the days when Gallifrey was at war with vampires.

That must be Lungbarrow -- FP canon has relabelled the looms as "breeding engines" (though a loom does sneak in to one entry of the Book) so it couldn't possibly be that (and much as Lawrence Miles is in many ways a permanent 15-year-old goth, he's got better taste than to use Childe -- bad Platt, no biscuit).

I actually remember the Gallifreyan adult being 200 from one of the many specials I have on VHS. It was in that that it was also specified a Gallifreyan only regenerates either twelve or thirteen times before they were dead for good. (I sadly do not remember which it is :-/)

My dad, the mega-"Dr. Who" fan in my family, can probably tell me which special it is for sure, but I THINK it's actually one on the history of the Daleks...

Bit off topic, but Doyle, dearie, you know my post about how Rob Shearman was reading my links list, and the fics on it?

Well, I got another PM from him, and he just happened to mention this:

" But I think So Let the Bells Ring Out is absolutely gorgeous - it's the best depiction of Mickey I've ever read, and I think the way it bonds the new series to the old is just spot on."

Thought you might appreciate hearing this.
