(no subject)

Three episodes into Invasion of Time, wherein the Fourth Doctor becomes President of Gallifrey right before it gets invaded by a sheet of tinfoil that to my untrained ear seems to be trying desperately to cover up its Belfast accent.

It is brilliance of the highest order, containing as it does Borusa, Leela getting herself a hot Time Lady girlfriend, a look at the TARDIS swimming pool, the sacred plastic inflatable cushion of Rassilon and K9 going all butch. That's my favourite bit, actually, the fact that he seems to have forgotten he's a little metal dog who falls over on uneven surfaces and spends this story going Samuel L Jackson on everyone's ass. He tells the TARDIS off for being a 'stupid machine' and then has sex with it, SRSLY! He snaps "I'm in charge"! And you just know it would have been "I'm in charge, motherfucker" but the BBC were scared of Mary Whitehouse and her ninjas.

The Target that goes with that one is BRILLIANCE ON A STICK. Oh, the Doctor would make such a good evil overlord.

I knew the evilness was an act - because, y'know, I've seen TV at some point in my life - but I still spent the first two episodes whimpering behind a cushion because it's the Doctor being evil and shouty and it's so wrong. Oh, I hope the godmaker comes back to tempt Ten again, I really do.

That is why the Target is so brilliant, because it's mostly from Leela's POV and she does believe it's not an act. Oh, bless his evil self. And evil!Ten would possibly make my life.

I need to see if I have that Target. Mostly to see if Leela and Rodan are as deliciously slashy in print. She couldn't have stayed behind for her and not the guy she's (so far) had two scenes with?

I loved Leela and her Time Lady girlfriend. But ack, Fake!Evil!Four!

It's a Glasgow accent I think.

And I should warn you, IMO this is one of those stories that starts well and goes badly downhill in the last couple of eps.

Still, maybe you'll enjoy it more than me! And I think I have that Target novelisation somewhere...

But all planets have a Belfast.

[identity profile] xipuloxx.livejournal.com 2006-05-06 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
This is true...

Does that mean all planets have a Twinbrook too? [shudders]

(Apologies to those unfamiliar with Belfast, basically it's (IMO) the most repellent part of Belfast, though I've never actually been there, but one of my coworkers who lived there for a while was the victim of racist violence of a kind and frequency which beggars belief)

Ay'm nat fram Bealfawst, leek!

Now there's a frightening thought!

*dies* Between this and mention of TARDIS chase scenes in another comment, I think I may have to watch this. :D

I'm looking forward to the TARDIS chase scene. It's one thing I'd like to see more of in the new series, other bits in the TARDIS, but I know other people are dead against it (something about 'it's Narnia that's important, not the wardrobe')

Yes. More than just the console. Does it have many other rooms, since it's obviously been redecorated?

I would love the butterfly room, but that is very much Eight's only. *loves*
