nos, you'll like this: Christopher Ecclestone in this month's SFX.

The accent that Shakespeare spoke when he originally wrote these plays was not RP. It's just become that way because that culture was snatched and turned into an elite area. I personally am against that... You see it in American sci-fi films. For some reason, white middle-class English is what aliens sound like. Bollocks! Bollocks, say I! Why do they always have to sound like classically trained... lavenders? When I was a little boy I watched Doctor Who I thought "well, if I'm gonna be brave and I'm gonna be a scientist, I'll have to sound posh." Now it means we can have what's patronisingly called a 'regional accent'... without getting soapboxy, I think that's great!

And wouldn't you know, the first thing I looked at on the SFX letters page was someone requesting that Ten have a "more neutral accent" *hurts self rolling eyes*

Swiss, I wonder?

Good for him! And I want Ten to use his own perfectly nice and comprehensible accent (and no, of course that's got nothing to do with my being from the same area!)

I suspect it'll be relatively light (like Sylvester, really) if only cos I got in a taxi the other day and got told I "don't have a Paisley accent". Apparently we slip fast... *sigh* But yay, West Coast accent!

Indeed! ;)

Actually, is it just me, or does Chris Eccleston tone down his accent slightly for the part? It seems a little different from how it sounds on DW Confidential.

The speech pattern he uses for the Doctor is different to his own normal style. He says in the interview he can hear Russell saying the lines and that how he performs it.

Oh and Russell would make a good Doctor cos he has a leather jacket...

I love Chris, I really do *giggles*
