In honour of Worldwide Journal Commenting Day, and since I've been updating my friendslist, I thought I'd do a post for people who don't normally comment to say hi. Also for people who do normally comment. So, pretty much just for everybpdy, really.

Getting To Know You...

If you're wondering who I am - that's okay, I don't recognise a lot of the names on my flist either, hence this post - I go by Doyle, I'm 22, I'm an astrophysics student and I live in Belfast, Northern Ireland. I'm most active in the Buffyverse fandom, which I can never call Buffy/Angel without getting it mixed up with the pairing, and most of my posts are me blathering on about some aspect of that. The rest of the posts are usually me whinging about an assignment/thesis/presentation/nebula spectrum, though most of those are locked, when I remember. I obsessively-compulsively organize things, so if you're looking for communities, fic recs, whatever, I'll try my best to help you find it or point you to someone who can.

Current favourite pairings and characters are Dawn, Nina, Angel/Spike, Buffy, Riley, Kennedy, Gunn, and I've been thinking a lot about Eve. This changes a lot. I think every character has been my favourite at some point, and it all seems to run nicely on a subconscious rota system. Non-Buffyverse things I watch: Lost, Desperate Housewives, Father Ted, Black Books, Teachers, The Simpsons, Futurama, random bits of anime and Farscape and Battlestar Galactica when my housemates are watching it.

I'm Dan, I'm 29, and I'm doing a PhD in subatomic physics which is tiring me out. I should be done before the year's out, though. (The project is a search for supersymmetric particles in proton-antiproton collisions, and I don't expect to find any.) I live in a neo-brutalist student apartment building in Toronto, with several forays to a US gov't lab in Illinois coming in the next few months so I can finish up my research. I've friended several livejournalers (livejournalists?) because they talk about various fannish things, but I rarely discuss them on my journal for some reason.

I don't write fanfic, but I read it in small doses. I regard the last two seasons of Buffy, almost the entire run of Angel, and the Star Wars prequels as simultaneously overrated and underrated, and will probably buy them all on DVD eventually anyway. I used to be a big Star Trek and Babylon 5 fan, but now I'm not, and I don't know why. I watch Lost and The West Wing regularly, and I'm looking forward to the new Doctor Who whenever that comes out. I'm a serial lurker, I'm politically left of centre, and I don't like mushrooms on my pizza.

I've been known to join a fandom for the promise of good OT3 fic. (That was Naruto.) I like sibcest fic, mostly for the fucked-up factor. Fullmetal Alchemist is awesome and everyone should be watching it, and I'm willing to back that up by uploading episodes to YouSendIt for people.

I'm Leni. 20 years old though I always think I'm 21, and probably will for the next decade.

Fandoms? BtVS/AtS primarily, though lately I'm spending a lot of time at the Inuyasha playground. Then there's Harry Potter, Sailor Moon, Xena, Gilmore Girls, Pretender, Xmen, Daria, and a couple others I cannot remember right now. I'm mostly a canon girl, though I can try the weirdest pairings if properly challenged. Love Buffy/Angel with all my heart, and B/Aus with everything else. My writing tends to concentrate on them, but in the last year I've branched out to everything Old Skool, and Spike, and Willow, and Dawn/Spike. Never ask me why I 'ship the 'ships I 'ship; you'll probably get an answer as incoherent as that.

What I like? Innovative fics, not much 'new pairings' as 'new settings'. I'll love an angsty Surprise/Innocence fic if it's done from a new angle more than a happy post-finale B/A, but it's so difficult to find new angles in a fandom that's been around for almost a decade. Sometimes I feel as if I've read everything I want to say, which makes my current author's block even stronger.

You'll find me every weekend at open_on_sunday, and lately at iyfic_challenge. It'd be nice to have something like that in BtVS/AtS, but it needs a moderator with LOTS of free time. Alas.

Questions, actually, I have one. Do you have a 30x100 button for your site? The other day I was looking for one and couldn't find it. :-(
