In honour of Worldwide Journal Commenting Day, and since I've been updating my friendslist, I thought I'd do a post for people who don't normally comment to say hi. Also for people who do normally comment. So, pretty much just for everybpdy, really.

Getting To Know You...

If you're wondering who I am - that's okay, I don't recognise a lot of the names on my flist either, hence this post - I go by Doyle, I'm 22, I'm an astrophysics student and I live in Belfast, Northern Ireland. I'm most active in the Buffyverse fandom, which I can never call Buffy/Angel without getting it mixed up with the pairing, and most of my posts are me blathering on about some aspect of that. The rest of the posts are usually me whinging about an assignment/thesis/presentation/nebula spectrum, though most of those are locked, when I remember. I obsessively-compulsively organize things, so if you're looking for communities, fic recs, whatever, I'll try my best to help you find it or point you to someone who can.

Current favourite pairings and characters are Dawn, Nina, Angel/Spike, Buffy, Riley, Kennedy, Gunn, and I've been thinking a lot about Eve. This changes a lot. I think every character has been my favourite at some point, and it all seems to run nicely on a subconscious rota system. Non-Buffyverse things I watch: Lost, Desperate Housewives, Father Ted, Black Books, Teachers, The Simpsons, Futurama, random bits of anime and Farscape and Battlestar Galactica when my housemates are watching it.

Fandom(s): Buffyverse and Dark Angel for TV, Nightrunners, which is a semi-obscure slashy fantasy book series, and the occasional Anime that I write with my friend Na.

Something I'll always love is consensual turning fic in almost any pairing. I love Xander incredibly but will plot out his murder when he's with my boys, because I'm picky like that!

Hi Doyle. I never talk to you anymore on account of the whole thing where my interest in BtVS/AtS has significantly waned and also my general laziness about commenting in anyone else's lj.

But I wanted to let you know I still love having you on my flist. I love your enthusiasm and your perceptiveness and also you are still the first person in fandom I ever had a dream about. If I recall correctly, there were cows in it.

I'm Dan, I'm 29, and I'm doing a PhD in subatomic physics which is tiring me out. I should be done before the year's out, though. (The project is a search for supersymmetric particles in proton-antiproton collisions, and I don't expect to find any.) I live in a neo-brutalist student apartment building in Toronto, with several forays to a US gov't lab in Illinois coming in the next few months so I can finish up my research. I've friended several livejournalers (livejournalists?) because they talk about various fannish things, but I rarely discuss them on my journal for some reason.

I don't write fanfic, but I read it in small doses. I regard the last two seasons of Buffy, almost the entire run of Angel, and the Star Wars prequels as simultaneously overrated and underrated, and will probably buy them all on DVD eventually anyway. I used to be a big Star Trek and Babylon 5 fan, but now I'm not, and I don't know why. I watch Lost and The West Wing regularly, and I'm looking forward to the new Doctor Who whenever that comes out. I'm a serial lurker, I'm politically left of centre, and I don't like mushrooms on my pizza.

In the short term, I'm applying for my PhD. In the long-term... eep. They'll get me out of a university department when they drag me out kicking and screaming. I guess if I wasn't working in the uni I'd be doing industrial research or something unrelated to my degree, neither of which appeals very much - I'd actually like to go into science journalism, though.

Currently pulling an all-nighter writing a presentation on my Masters' project, which is on elemental abundances in planetary nebulae (one in the SMC, one in the Sagittarius Dwarf Galaxy and one in the galactic bulge); my PhD, if I get accepted, is likely to be on nebulae and late sequence, low mass stars too.

LJ makes it far too easy to procrastinate, since I'm meeting my supervisor in ten hours and really should be hard at work on this...

I've been known to join a fandom for the promise of good OT3 fic. (That was Naruto.) I like sibcest fic, mostly for the fucked-up factor. Fullmetal Alchemist is awesome and everyone should be watching it, and I'm willing to back that up by uploading episodes to YouSendIt for people.
