Compile, you stupid program! (it's all very well for the computer admin guy to say "just edit the source and compile it, dumbass" - he didn't actually say dumbass, but he did call me stupid - but when you don't in fact know PERL...)

Oh, and apparently it's some sort of turkey and pie holiday occasion in America, so good luck with that to everybody who celebrates *g*

*g* Ah, my mistake, not his. I'm compiling the main part of the program, which is C - the runall and checkall commands are perl, and they're the ones giving me grief. Will give it one more try and then possibly throw myself on your mercy, see if I'm doing something obvious...

Having apparently solved it, I will reiterate that no one is a dumbass here. Just the usual platform-specific path and system command issues (these are so common).

Also, I am equally convinced that your computer admin guy has something like this in his shell resource file for his personal unix account, because I just found this exact line in one of my colleague's unix home directory .bashrc files:

alias copy='cp -i'

This makes it *seem* as if there is such a thing as a command called 'copy', for him, in a unix environment. SNEAKY.

Also, I assume you commented out this:

!perl -w

And commented back in this:

#!/usr/bin/perl/

Because how in the holy chicken's name you could run a perl program on a unix machine without doing so, is beyond me.
