I was looking at yesterday's Guardian. I *love* their reaction to the election: the G2's front cover is a completely black page with just the words "Oh, God." in the centre. (I'd've gone for 'oh, fuck' myself but I'm not sure they're allowed to print it.) I also love the journalist's comment about staying up "till 4:30 in the morning; long enough to cry like a girl."

Meanwhile, the Daily Mail smugly applauds Bush's wonderful victory for the 'moral majority' and manages to come out with the stupidest thing I've ever read in their paper, which is quite a feat:

"Not only would [gay marriage] undermine the institution of marriage itself, but it further called into question what it meant to be human."

Leaving aside the confusing mid-sentence change from future to past tense: what the hell does that even mean?

::eyes that:: So if you're gay you're not human? I'm bisexual, does that mean I'm half-human or something? ::rolls eyes:: How can they let people post this stuff?

I don't even understand what the writer means. I could only wonder if she somehow deleted half a paragraph and got it mixed up with her next bit about stem cell research and abortion.

Mmm, maybe? It would be better than "I have a brain the size of a pea and think only white straight people have rights".

::pets your Nina icon::Man, I should update the Angel/Nina site. ::totally random::

You're expecting coherence from the Daily Mail? In the midst of their overwhelming glee?

"Not only would [gay marriage] undermine the institution of marriage itself, but it further called into question what it meant to be human."

...So, what this person is trying to say is that being gay turns you into something not human, like howler monkeys?

God, some people should not have access to computers. They should just stay home and do the world a favor and put a plastic bag over their heads and breath in real, real deep.

I'm putting that on my CV. Achievements: calling into question what it means to be human.

Also, I think the daily mail needs a beta reader, actually, it needs a herd of them.

It means that they'd have to question their knee-jerk prejudices. It means that they'd have to re-examine their hate-filled stance that only people who Look Like Them are human beings.

Did The Grauniad not once have "Fuck Cilla Black" on the cover of G2? I think it was "art" so that may have been the excuse.

I'm not even going to talk about the other paper, fascist rag that it is.

The Daily Scaremonger Mail? This is the same paper that has had the headlines "Danger: Jam Sponge" and "Beware The Swan"? Yeah, I wouldn't pay attention to anything they have to say...

Dammit! How the hell did I manage to miss The Guardian yesterday? Thanks for the info.

(Though I must admit to loving the Mirror's How can 59,109,971 people be so dumb? headline).

Your icon is so pretty.

And I prefer to look on the bright side. If I'm not human than maybe I'm homosuperior. I'm a mutant, dude. Watch me work my mad mutant skills and go.. make out with girls. Yay me!

I think I need to buy a trans-atlantic subscription to the Guardian. Just because.

*blink* fuck if I know. Being human means being married now? Does that mean the rest of us get a new species name?

*Further* called into question? We were already questioning what it meant to be human? I mean, apart from the usual philosophical musings?

Danger: Jam Sponge is the best headline ever. I realize it wasn't intended as humor, and is therefore terrifying, but I'm adding it to my list of things to name my journal someday.

It was an article about how the Women's Institute were taking contaminated cakes into hospitals. Clearly, they're terrorists.

Is the front of the G2 available online? Because, wow. And I need to send that to my mom.

That quote is just disgusting.
