Back at home, and my laptop's internet connection's still broken -

I installed Adaware and Spybot, and my system seems clean. It's letting me connect to the internet and when I go into the C prompt it's pinging okay, but it won't let me access any sites or get my email. I took a screenshot, here.

Going to email tech support but I'll probably have to ring them. It's an extortionate premium rate line, though, so I'm trying to avoid that if I possibly can. I hate being a techno-dunce.

I am so in love with Lupin. I'm not into the HP fandom: I've read the books and a couple of pieces of fanfic (literally a couple, I think Draco Dormiens and Draco Malfoy the Amazing Bouncing Ferret are the beginning and end of my HP fanfic experience.) Lupin never made a big impression on me. But... he's so lovely! Kevin said he looked like he's come straight from decoding Nazi spy codes in Bletchley Park. He's so straight-from-the-1940s. Which is about the only time I'm going to use the word straight in conjunction with him because his and Sirius's loveissopureOMG. I must download a million S/R fanfics. Now. Ah, recs? Would love some plot but such is my desperation I'll go for anything.

What else... my crush on Draco continues to rage. I love my snivelling, cowardly little blond boy. Anybody know of any fic where he's at least close to the canon character? I can live with him being redeemed but only if he starts as the bastard I know and love.

Like the new Dumbledore a lot. And ooh, the twins. And there was just so much slash in general (old married couple, heh). The Ron/Hermione was pretty cute, too. I think I'm leaning towards the OT3ness of the Trio, though.

And [livejournal.com profile] connorbeast has finally seen Not Fade Away so I don't have to worry about spoiling him for it.

Pru's S/R fic is like omg the best. She also has kick ass recs as well. I espescially love "Levity" and the "Seven Valentines" *happy sigh*

[identity profile] doyle_sb4.livejournal.com 2004-06-08 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh, thanks!

[identity profile] gypsy-curse.livejournal.com 2004-06-09 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, I just happened to click the rec, and read the Seven Valentines fic, it was amazing! I've actually never read a S/R fic before, even though I've been in the HP fandom for almost a year (and it was the first slash pairing in HP I had ever heard of). *slaps self* So I'm happy to say I have found a new obsession. *g* Thank you!!
*goes off to read "Levity"*

I read Levity last night. I'm a sobbing heap at the last part.

I'm seeing 2 things that look like they could be probelsm with your set-up -

The biggie is that you have dhcp disabled. That's not usual.

The other is your ethernet adapter is not connected. That depends on if you are actually using it or not to connect to anything.

[identity profile] doyle_sb4.livejournal.com 2004-06-08 04:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know how I disabled the dhcp. I don't even know what it is *g* Similarly, I have no idea if the ethernet adaptor should be connected or not...

[identity profile] quinn222.livejournal.com 2004-06-08 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)
How are you connecting to the web? Is it a dial up modem?

Go to your connection in the netwrok window (control panel) and double click it (or right click, choose properties.)

On the 'general' tab, highlight internet protocol (tcp/ip) and then choose properties.

again on the general tab, be sure you have 'obtain an IP address auto etc. checked, and obtain dns server auto checked. Now click the advanced button.

See if it says anything about DHCP in the IP settings window. Try enabling it.

[identity profile] doyle_sb4.livejournal.com 2004-06-09 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
Yep, I'm on dial-up - thanks, going to try that now.

[identity profile] quinn222.livejournal.com 2004-06-08 04:08 pm (UTC)(link)
One more thing, you've got what looks like a privatly assigned IP address, also not usual and normally seen only in case of a problem (ie; Your DHCP set-u) and your subnet mask is odd as well, the way I read it that mask will totally cancel out your ip address. Could be because of the private addressing.

[livejournal.com profile] musesfool collected a bunch of R/S recs over here (http://www.livejournal.com/users/musesfool/628616.html#cutid1). OMG, so many amazing ones.

Also, I have two: Snog (http://www.hobbiesodd.us/fqf/firstwave/89inyron.html) and Flood (http://www.hobbiesodd.us/fqf/firstwave/1inyron.html). They were from the FQF challenge last summer.

:makes the international noise of stealing things/links: Yoink!

Reading the Levity series from the page [livejournal.com profile] wickedprincess3 mentioned. Happy sigh.

Oh yeah, that auther's fantastic. You have to catch everything on that page. *joins you in a happry sigh*

Did you read my fic yet? -bouncebouncebounce-
Loved new HP movie too. IMAX is the way to see it. All those sweeping landscapes- gorgeous!

[livejournal.com profile] musesfool just compiled a loooong list of S/R recs, here: So, PoA Finally Convinced You That SB/RL Is Canon! Here's The Fic You Must Read! (http://www.livejournal.com/users/musesfool/628616.html)

[identity profile] teleute12.livejournal.com 2004-06-08 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Aw, damn, I see I've been beaten to it. Anyways, enjoy your reading - I highly recommend So You Want To Transfigure Yourself a Rock Band (http://www.sprunkers.com/glitter.htm).

[identity profile] doyle_sb4.livejournal.com 2004-06-08 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm downloading everything on that list. I love it very, very much :hugs list:

I am a long time Lupin lover. I second the rec for [livejournal.com profile] rageprufrock ... and yeah. Check out [livejournal.com profile] musesfool's recs post from a few days ago. I just read "Thing" (link is on that list) and it utterly killed me.

And today [livejournal.com profile] ponderosa121 posted three amazing drawings.

I am helplessly and hopelessly in love with Remus. I screamed with delight when he showed up in Book 5. I wailed with the rest when Thewlis was hired. I repented with everyone else after seeing him own that role, and dude, YES, I love Kevin too, because Bletchley Park oh MY.

::reels from sudden war plotbunnies::

I recced a ficlet today by [livejournal.com profile] hackthis ... it's an amazing blend of book and movie draco.

I've been reading a ton of post-war adult Harry/Draco ... are you interested in that? The Dracos are invariably great, but the Harry characterizations always suffer as a result.

[identity profile] doyle_sb4.livejournal.com 2004-06-08 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)
:weighs it up:

:decides she could care less about Harry characterization:

Rec me, baby!

[identity profile] thissugarcane.livejournal.com 2004-06-08 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I have a bunch of recs for R/S (and a few other things, but er, not much, heh) right here (http://www.doyourthing.org/lise/hp/recs.htm), as well as (I think) a few things that aren't mentioned many other places. :) R/S! so canon. :)

[livejournal.com profile] musesfool linked two Minx fics ("As Black As He's Painted" and "Ghosts") but didn't link the series they're FROM...and why do one without the other?

I was just going to rec you the entire series, "Lost Feeling." (http://vidweasels.com/Minx/Lost_Feeling/LF_index.html) First fanfic to make me cry in six years. Minx also has a page of Recs up, so you can check those out too.

Also check out Restricted Section.org. A lot of the fic is shite, but there's some that isn't. I just made a big long rec post in someone else's LJ and would hate to retype it all, so I'll try to find it. Not all of my favorite fic is Remus/Sirius, though, as much as they're my OTP.

[identity profile] mlyn.livejournal.com 2004-06-09 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I found the rest of my rec's on [livejournal.com profile] behindblue_eyes' LJ. (Thief!)

Cybele's "If You Are Prepared" (http://www.swish-n-flick.netfirms.com/images/coverpages/iyap_cover.htm) (Harry/Snape) is worth a read, pairing aside. It's getting to be famous in the fandom for its multitude of graces. I shouldn't start praising it, 'cause I wouldn't stop. (See also [livejournal.com profile] yukipon for her Japanese translation of IYAP and illustrations. The translation doesn't matter; the illustrations are worth worshiping at an altar.)

Minx's personal site is better, btw, because she has some installments in the Lost Feeling series that aren't included on Restricted Section (http://www.restrictedsection.org/).

Other rec's for Restricted Section (by author)...
-Ailei - "Clued" and "Can't Catch Me," to start (James/Remus/Sirius in variations)
-Amanuensis - some sincerely fucked up ideas, but [livejournal.com profile] glockgal illustrated "And Just Plain Wrong" for a reason. It's sick.
-Cassandra Claire - I like "A Season in Hell" and "After the Flood" for some spare, introspective Harry/Draco
-Cybele - some of her other fic is here, and I adore "Something to Write On" and "Quill and Ink" from the selection
-Fabula Rasa - I love love love everything she's done. I'm wondering if she has an LJ and a personal site so I can find more, actually. "Cordelictus" is especially divine. (Sirius/Snape)
-Icarus - the "Beg Me For It" series is cute, and Ron/Draco. The "Primer to the Dark Arts" series is not worth the read, imo.
-Maeglin Yedi - I think I read "Of Wolf and Man" (Harry/Moony to start with) on a rec. It's pretty good, but only if you can stand bestiality, which I barely can. Her other stuff might be good reads, too.
-Snaples - I've seen his/her fanart around, so the name conjures recognition...I don't know how good the fic is, though
-starcrossed - my friend and fellow RPGer, Aimes
-Xandria - has been recced to me, though I can't say I have a favorite of hers

That should get you started, right? *G*

[identity profile] doyle_sb4.livejournal.com 2004-06-10 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
Ooh, thank you!!
