A futile hope...

Don't suppose anybody would be able to give me some clue on where to start on my coursework assignment -

"Write a computer program in C to investigate the evolution of single-celled automata."

Until I googled it I assumed automata were a type of amoeba...

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Curse astrophysics for requiring me to learn programming. And I have the horrid suspicion that Spike and Angel (the research computers in the Physics department) will make me learn to use Linux.

Automata (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=automata&r=67).

Plural for automaton. *beams* Robots. And the single-celled ones would be like the nanites on MST3k, I would imagine. :D

:tiny voice: I don't know how to make nanites. I went to every class and only fell asleep in 3 or 4 and I don't think he mentioned nanites *ever*...

Ah well, at least I'm starting well before the deadline rather than my usual night-before-it's-due approach. And thanks for the link! *g*

LOL - Well, I don't think they're real... at least, I'm not entirely sure they are. I do think they're mostly theory and conjecture at this rate, even if they aren't called 'nanites' specifically.

Hee! You're very welcome :D

Spike-and-Angel the computers are cool. Linux takes about a day of going 'Why did I pick this project!?' tolearn, and then you're off. If you get on Angel next semester and find any incriminating Star Wars or Harry Potter saved, cover for me, will you? ;-)
