Got 'em on SpoilerSlayer.

Sooo. Angel worked for the US government during the war. That's an... interesting piece of information.

And he and Spike met up aboard a Nazi submarine.

Ignoring how on Earth Spike didn't catch on then (or in the Boxer Rebellion) that Angel had a soul but worked it out in seconds in School Hard - and he doesn't work out that Angel's working for the good guys in WWII - this could be very funny. Intentionally funny or un will remain to be seen.

Gotta love those flashbacks.

And you have to admire a show that in one season has had Mexican Wrestlers, Robot Ninjas and now Vampire Nazis.

Hee. I thought the same thing.

I'm really curious to see how, or even if, they'll address Spike noticing Angel's soul. In times of stress his soul radar (souldar!) is down?

I so want them to show what Spike looked like then. I hope they don't Joss [livejournal.com profile] lovesbitca's Esme too much with it.

I also wonder what they're going to have Spike looking like... WWII is a couple decades before punk....

I'm fine for the vampire Nazis, a little big on the eye-rolling that the version of Angel we're seeing doesn't really jive with anything else we've gotten in his timeline. He goes from Captain Superhero in the 40s to not giving a shit in the 50s? And wouldn't the concept of him helping anybody totally contradict AYNOHYEB and, later, the whole Whistler stuff?

I dunno. This was so much a modern sounding Angel that when I read the casting sides I honestly thought it was a time-travel ep more than a proper flashback one.

I watched AYNOHYEB this afternoon, and you're right, it really wouldn't jibe. Since the episode deals with brain-scientists, maybe a memory wipe... or something? Lame, I know, but it would solve the little fact of Spike remaining clueless about the soul too.

Of course, the shallow part of my brain cares not one whit about continuity if it means Angel in a uniform.

Angel in a uniform is a pretty thing ;) I remain hopeful that it'll all get explained in the ep. I just need my moments of tearing my hair out when I first hear this stuff. Lets me get it out of the way so I can enjoy the ep itself with a clean slate ;)

Thank you.

My one-sentence boil-down of it: "So Angel is Forrest Gump now? Kay."

Then there's the fact that Angel said he played tennis with Bugsy Siegel in Vegas which would be in the 1943-1947 range. Also there's the fact that he was at Elvis Presley's wedding in 1967.

Yeah but that was obvious BS. Not even the other characters believed him.

::fake gasp:: Angel lie? Never!

Okay, you got me on that one. I just like to think that really old vampires wouldn't have to make up stories to try impressing their friends with.

This is what happens when some vampires have the emotional maturity of 3 year olds ;)

And he and Spike met up aboard a Nazi submarine.

I am just so amused by that. As long as they had sex on the submarine, I can let everything else go. ;)

I have a theory that this season of Angel is trying to be MustangSally and RivkaT's stories, only without the Spuffy. They did "Changes" and now they are throwing in the Nazi story.

You know something weird? I always thought Spike knew about the soul from the beginning. He was there when during the whole gypsy thing, and the four of them were still knocking around together during the Boxer Rebellion when Darla decided to give him a second chance. Angel was trying to prove that the soul didn't make a difference, that he was still an animal, and I thought part of that charade was directed at Spike and Dru.

In 'School Hard' Spike doesn't say he's discovered Angel has a soul, he just calls him an 'Uncle Tom' - like he can't believe the soul has finally got the better of the vampire. You've got me thinking now...hmmm
