More SFX stuff

I got the SFX Buffy special (the one with the ratings). No word on how many people were involved in the ranking or how they sorted it - or possibly there is, but I just skimmed, so I didn't see it. Things I discerned about the people doing the ranking:

- they love Spike, but only when he's evil
- they love Andrew
- they hate Kennedy
- they hate Riley with the fiery passion of ten thousand suns (the summary of Out of My Mind is "yay, Riley might be dying!")
- they love Xander, but only when he's a loser - they particularly hate the threat of him getting a girlfriend in Beneath Me
- they really loved Chosen
- they did most of it from memory, because there are a bunch of factual errors (plot points attributed to wrong episodes, Andrew referred to as 'Jonathan'...)

The regular SFX has a nice letter about Andrew's sexuality, which seems to be a popular topic. I love the editor's comment: "If Buffy had been on HBO, no doubt Andrew and Warren would have been rutting like randy rabbits" (SFX is a slashy place. A few months back there was another letter about how Andrew and Xander should have gotten together. The editor's response was "oh, please don't give Jayne more ideas..." A page later, Jayne herself mentioned that she was having sleepless nights having "naughty thoughts about Spike on Angel")

I was so very tempted by the Angel magazine, because the centre poster is Angel and Wes. It's homoerotorific.

I might need to pick this one up.

Not even. Warren's straight. He sees women as objects, but he's straight. He might have accepted a blow job from Andrew, who definitely had a crush on him, but I can't see rutting in the offing.

Is this magazine only available in the UK? Because I can't find it anywhere. Do you know if they have a website as well?

I don't know if it's available outside the UK, and I don't think they have a website.

Sorry, not trying to drill you or anything... was just curious. :)

Oh, it's no problem :) I just wish it was available all over because it's a really great magazine (and they love James Marsters.)

you can find sfx in the us, but they only sell it at some bookstores and international newsstands. also, it's not cheap, but it's definitely worth it.

I have both issues of the Angel mag so far. >.>

Unfortunately, the AD interview makes my little Wes/Fred hating heart want to shatter and weep. The SR interview in the first issue was cool though.

Nooo!

There are very, very few ships that I'm anti, but Wes/Fred is one of them. Dammit, put Wes with anyone else... (and I don't hate Fred. God, I am Fred. I just don't her anywhere near Wes because it brings out the absolute worst in them both.)

[identity profile] briargate.livejournal.com 2003-09-09 11:14 am (UTC)(link)
One of the reasons I hate it more than almost any other ship is the behind-the-scenes crap attached to it - the way everyone involved appears to think that having two people with especially high levels of intelligence automatically makes them compatible.

Now if it was Buffy!Wes, or S1!Wes, I'd be ok with it because Wes had the emotional maturity of a blueberry scone and although it would have been nauseatingly cutesy, Wes/Fred probably would have worked. But once Angel ran off to chase after Lindsey Darla, Wes changed and grew up and became someone Fred could never hope to understand.

And this is turning into a rant so I'll stop now...

Upon the second part, I must say "here, here". Buffy!Wes would have so hitted it off with Fred. But all-grown-up!Wes is dimenisons away from Fred. Weslah had much more chemistry even when Lilah is dead, than WesFred ever had.

Although one has to wonder what Season 5 would bring. One of my first thoughts upon the memory wipe, was that if Wesley never went dark, he never would have ended up with Lilah(*sigh*), and might have ended up with Fred, Gunn or Angel (if not for the fact that Joss is still in denial).

The wiping out of Weslah and replacing it with WesFred, is of course, replusive. But maybe if the memory wipe goes more far than Darla coming back peggers, to before Angel went to Darla, we'll have a Ats S1 Wes! Considering how Angel saw Wesley(subtext much?) in his crazy dreams beneath the sea, I won't be surprise if he had Wes reverted back to Season one. WesFred could become very interesting, like a "more" hex version of Willow/Tara?

WHERE did you get it? Did you have to order it?

I've been searching every bookstore here and all they have is the X-Men2 special edition and an edition with some girl on it.

I'm going slowly crazy.

My local bookshop had it. But I'm in Northern Ireland and it's only just released here, so I imagine it'll be a while before the US gets it.
