Dammit, writing Spike's voice is hard.

Hee. Different tastes. I'm finding writing a believable Connor-voice next to impossible myself ;-)

You're writing Connor?!!!

::squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee::

Oh, my god. Oh, my god. I've stopped breathing.

Yup, writing Connor. Or trying to. But man oh man it's hard. I do love the character, though. :)

Oh, and if anyone has any more recs, I would welcome them. I am still trying to find Conor's 'voice', and even though the tactic has a whiff of plagarism about it, I'm desperate enough to crash-read a whole pile of other people's stuff in the hope something will stick.

Doyle's Ice Cream For Freaks site has some great Connor stuff, of course. For me, one of the definitive Connor fics is [livejournal.com profile] yahtzee63's On the Education of a Young Man (http://www.thechicagoloop.net/yahtzee/chivalry/Chivfic/Education.htm). Yahtzee gets Connor, and it shows. If you haven't read her The Uninvited Guest (http://www.thechicagoloop.net/yahtzee/chivalry/Chivfic/UninvitedIntro.htm), you definitely should, and not just for Connor. He isn't the main character - actually, no one is the main character, but he's drawn very well...even though the fic can be considered AU.

Hm. Actually I always thought the thing about writing voices is using key words characters would say and then it's completely up to the reader if he has Spike's voice in his head or not. When I started reading Due South slash for example, I thought the stories were 'blah'. I had never seen an episode before. After I had seen some episodes and then read slash again, my whole perception of the fic changed because now I could hear the characters' voices in my head and imagine their body movements, etc.

Tell me about it. It's so hard not to revert to the "Oi, Slayer. Come give us a shag, love." -type of dialog. The little voice in my head would always say, "The *show* does it. Why can't you?"
