1. Which do you prefer: slash or het fic? Why?
I'm more drawn to slash because, hell, pretty boys kissing. For a long time I didn't read het at all, because it just didn't interest me - I suppose because I could see that kind of relationship in any movie, TV show or book.
Then I got into Buffy fandom, and for a while the only thing I read was Spuffy. After ages of being a slash-only girl it was quite a change. After a while I started branching out to other pairings, slash and het. I don't really draw a distinction between the two, since so many of the het pairings I read are unconventional (who's to say that Spike/Tara is more or less likely than Angel/Wesley?)

2. What do you see yourself doing in five years?
Probably still at university, maybe as a researcher or in the final year of my PhD. Uni's been such a blast so far that they'll get me off the damn campus when they drag me out kicking and screaming. Of course, that could change in my final two years, depending on how stressful the exams get.
The research team I'd really like to be on is the one searching for extrasolar planets (my degree's in Physics with Astrophysics). That'd be amazing. I'd love to get telescope time in a real observatory, like the Keck or one of the Las Palmas ones.
I definitely don't see myself settled down by then. I'll only be 25, for one thing, so hardly into Bridget Jones territory yet. A really hot boyfriend would be nice, though... *g*
3. Are you a compulsive fic collector (everything you see), or do you have requirements before you save it to your computer?
I'll scan the fic first, make sure it's not obviously horrible (really appalling spelling and grammar will put me off faster than anything else), but otherwise I'm very much on the compulsive side. I have 300+ MB of fic on my computer. And one day I will read it all, dammit!
Recently I've been playing fanfic Russian Roulette with fanfiction.net and the BFA - just picking a character, or going through the directory and finding authors at random, and clicking on every story in sight. I've found a bunch of good stuff that way. Sadly, on ff.net, it's almost guaranteed that the original, well-written stories I've found this way have had an average of 2 reviews each.
4. What is the physical object you most desire?
Not so much one physical object as lots of little ones: the best DVD collection in the world would rock. Alternatively I'd quite like a jetpack. Or a Tivo.
5. Do you have any other creative outlets besides writing fic? Share.
I used to play the piano, but that was more through my parents' wishes than mine :) No, I'm sadly devoid of artistic or musical talent. Although I like playing around with Photoshop sometimes. One day I'll master digitial manipulation and you'll all be inundated with faked Wesley/Connor icons.
Anybody wants me to interview them, leave a comment and I'll send you 5 questions. You answer 'em on your LJ, and offer to interview someone else, and the whole ball of wax keeps on rolling.

on 2003-07-07 12:57 pm (UTC)1. You're stranded on a desert island with one book, one movie, and one episode of a TV show. Which do you pick? (Assume that all movies and books regarding "how to escape from a desert island" are forbidden. Plus stranding yourself with Cast Away could well lead to suicide from sheer desperation.)
2. Of everything you've written, which story is your personal favourite?
3. Which is the best Kevin Smith movie and why?
4. A mysterious benefactor gives you a million dollars. What do you do?
5. Did you start the daily prons with the aim of doing 100, or did that just happen?

on 2003-07-07 01:00 pm (UTC)Hee. Well put. I'm all about the unconventional pairings (spake the hard-core Cordelia/Angel shipper), and I see it this way, too. Yeah, Connor/Wesley is slash, and yeah Fred/Connor's het, but they're both unconventional - which I love. Wait, oh, god. Fred/Connor/Wesley. Oh, god.
I'm oddly wierded out by the sense of legitimacy people place on certain pairings. Legitimacy as a sign of...I don't know - better-ness. Nyah. All I know is that there's nothing hotter, nothing, than WishverseBuffy/Post-LoyaltyWes, and it doesn't matter to me that there's only been one ep on the Wishverse, and that it didn't have Wes in it at all. They are hot. Yes, they are. Hee.
connorbeast, my partner in crime, once put forward a theory that how good my lovelife is at any time is directly proportional to how much het fic I'm reading.
Huh - directly or inversely proportional?
One day I'll master digitial manipulation and you'll all be inundated with faked Wesley/Connor icons.
Yes!
And, why the heck not - if you have five questions you wanna ask me, ask away. Let's keep this ball rolling a little longer.

on 2003-07-07 01:12 pm (UTC)So, 5 questions. Apologies for any lameness, but I'm picking stuff I want to know :)
1. If you had to pick One True Pairing in the Buffyverse, what would it be and why?
2. What was your first foray into fandom?
3. You have a magic spell that forces Joss and co to make Angel season 5 *your* way. How does it go?
4. If you had the Back to the Future Delorean or a similar time machine, where/when would you go?
5. What's one thing that makes you really happy?

on 2003-07-08 05:44 am (UTC)(1)“Love is just a word.” Agree or disagree?
(2)What is the most beautiful piece of music ever written, and where did you first hear it?
(3)This article (http://www.nytimes.com/2003/07/06/magazine/06BABY.html) in the latest New York Times magazine tries to apply a formula to explain the popularity of specific baby names at specific times. What do you think?
(4)In the middle of Season 5, Mutant Enemy chooses to bring back Darla in what will undoubtedly be the most interesting, complex, heartwrenching and beautiful story they have ever told. Part of that story is the death of Wesley. What is your reaction?
(5)What would constitute a “perfect” evening for you?

on 2003-07-07 01:38 pm (UTC)Lol. My friends get slightly worried at the thought of someone as scatterbrained as me working in a nuclear plant or controlling a space shuttle...

1. What poem(s) give you the deepest emotional reactions?
2. 'Fess up: what are your fanfic kinks?
3. You're magically granted three wishes: one for yourself, one for the world, and one you can use as you please. What do you wish?
4. The first time you saw an episode of Buffy, which character were you immediately drawn to?
5. What writer would you most like to have a chat with over coffee?

on 2003-07-07 03:29 pm (UTC)Bwah! You and your Wes/Connor! ;)
I'm in a mood to be interviewed, so if you can think up five questions for me I'll answer 'em!

1. What one scene do you wish we could have gotten in Buffy but never did?

2. Which Harry Potter house do you think the sorting hat would have put you in and why?

on 2003-07-08 02:46 pm (UTC)Okay, 5 questions.
1. A short one to start: Why Buffy/Wesley?
2. What was the first fanfiction you ever put online, and how do you feel about that story rereading it now?
3. What's your process when you write - do you plan things out meticulously, go with the flow, write events in sequence or jump back and forth in the narrative, etc...?
4. Whose character voice is hardest/easiest to get right?
5. And to finish, a dumb, obvious, non-fandom one: you're being evacuated from Earth in a spaceship. Or similar. For some reason. And you're allowed to take five personal possessions (weight and size no object: the captain of the spaceship just has chronic fear of any number other than 5). What do you take?

I can always use more slash from someone who cares enough to do it well.
