Yes! Eurovision Song Contest

Whee! Nil points for the UK! I'm so proud.

The only country to get no points, may I add. My parents are pissed as hell that Ireland didn't win, even though they voted several times (funny thing: you can't vote for your own country, but since we're in Northern Ireland we can vote for L'Ireland but not the UK).

The voting was as hilarious as ever. This is what Europe does instead of war with each other - little alliances that go on for year after year, like all the Scandinavian countries voting for each other, Israel refusing to give any points to Germany ever, and a bunch of countries that always give each other top votes regardless of the songs, most of which are just awful.

Tatu came in third for Russia. I thought their song was terrible, but that just might be the aftertaste of all the bile I spilled earlier this week on reading "All the Things She Said is the greatest teen angst anthem since Smells Like Teen Spirit" in Bang magazine.

Heh. You can tell who's in the doghouse this year, can't you? Oh well, you've gotta love Terry Wogan's commentry - and despite the whole relegation thing we've still got to go through it next year. I guess rules don't matter all that much if you're paying for the damn thing.

Hee, hee. I watched this in the pub yesterday evening. We got to the stage where we were anxiously going "Latvia? Do Latvians like Britain? Are they going to give us some pity points? Please - n-o-o-o!!! We want that big fat zero."

The rest of the time was spent mercilessly mocking the costumes, the sets, the songs and the contestants, of course. As is traditional.

More to the point, not only can we vote for Ireland, but half of Donegal was over the border in Derry, voting from payphones... I kid thee not.
