Because it was just too gay - the screen would've exploded with the sheer force of USTy goodness and UPN would've gone out of business overnight repaying everyone in the US for their damaged TV sets ;)

Yeah, coupled with the First/Mayor's line about how all Faith ever wanted was for Buffy to love her (that got cut, right, or did I miss it?), the slash would just have gone off the charts...
