Heads up - something weird's going on with my home internet (we're with Virgin Media - we can access all sites fine, albeit slowly, apart from Livejournal on my computer, and Fark on my housemate Kevin's. Which would be the sites each of us use most. We have no idea why this is happening, or how to fix it.) So if I'm not replying to comments ~~more than usual~~, ignoring ficathon entries written for me, etc, apologies - I can only access LJ at work right now, and since there's no net access in my labs it means my time's limited.

My daughter said the same thing a couple of days ago. When she wakes up I'll ask her if she's found the solution.

It's Virgin Media. They're slowly and steadily updating their network stuff around the country. While they're doing it, your network connection will be sporadic and slow, but supposedly you'll end up with a better, faster service afterwards - for free!

Same thing happened to me last month.

Have you checked the booster thingy is still plugged in? Its the one with the red light on the adaptor.

I am blackly amused that I'm getting better internet free from Starbucks than you are on the one we're paying for.

Same thing happened to me a couple of months back. They're updating your service. I couldn't get LJ, Gmail or the BBC website though for days and it was tres annoying.

Oh, bother, that probably means we'll be next seeing as we live about a mile away. I hope it isn't LJ that decides to die on me :(
