I watched the Four and Leela story Invasion of Time tonight. Brilliant stuff, but one bit in particular stood out:

In episode 6, during the chase through the TARDIS, a Sontaran fires its weapon in the sickbay, hitting Andred, who's around a corner. It hurts his arm but... he doesn't die! He doesn't regenerate! Do you know what this means? Ross could have survived the Sontaran shot too! ROSS LIVES!

My denial, let me show you it.

(Also, given Ten's repeated harping on about guns in that episde, it's amusing to see Four first hold a gun to Borusa's head and tell him in deadly seriousness that he'll kill him before he sees Gallifrey fall to the Sontarans, and then use a demat gun - a giant fuck-off WMD Of Rassilon - on a couple of Sontarans.)

LOL. I was just arguing with my boyfriend about that last night, that's so funny.

Ross lives!

Definitely.

I was just watching "Image of Fendahl" and Four uses a rifle in that one to kill an alien with no remorse, and then gives a handgun to a human to let him suicide. IT WAS AWESOME. I BITE MY THUMB AT TEN.

YAY ROSS. ♥

In fact, I thinmk he was firing salt the Fendhal but Jon Pertwee's Doctor uses a gun on an Ogron, TWICE, one a LASER and one a pistol I think. I also recall him shooting something else butr can't remember what!?!~~~

Your denial, I accept it. ;)

Four'n'Leeeela, I wish I had some new ones of theirs to still see. Rewatching's no good when you still have sixty-odd episodes to go. :(

This one was totally different on rewatching; Andred was rather brilliant, whereas first time around I didn't even realise he was in it till episode 6. And I'm massively crushing on Leela, who's an amazing companion and I want to rewatch everything of hers right now sleep is for tortoises

Hah, when I watched that one the first time I was specifically looking for Andred, cos I'd heard the first two seasons of the Gallifrey audios and was going to write Leela/Andred fic, and thought I should see his telly version. So I was trying really hard to like him from the get-go. ;)

Leela is amaaaazing. Sleep is for when you're dead, dude, for when you're dead.

I know the Leela/Andred romance as such is a bit pastede on, but Andred is really rather adorable on his own. He might grab the situation by completely the wrong end, but he does grab it good. And he conspires against the Lord High President and stuff, which does take balls, especially as the Doctor is genuinely scary in bits.

t's amusing to see Four first hold a gun to Borusa's head and tell him in deadly seriousness that he'll kill him before he sees Gallifrey fall to the Sontarans

Well, but he was either pretending he was a crazy rogue Timelord, or he *was* being a crazy rogue Timelord.

a giant fuck-off WMD Of Rassilon

I love this phrase. Also, speaking of crazy Timelords... do we ever see more of Rassilon? He's like the mad scientist who left all sorts of chaos-inducing crap around, and is remembered reverently now that he's more-or-less deaddeaddead, at least outside of the Matrix.

I did like Andred. I also was very very fond of Borusa in this episode, no matter what they did with him later on.

Also fanboying an elephant gun in the way that some boys would cars a few episodes earlier, she chimed in geekily.

I think the official wank is along the lines of 'there are people who are born on Gallifrey, and then there are Time Lords'. Time Lords, apparently, can regenerate, but plain old Gallifreians (SP?) don't. That would kind of work with New Wank re: looking into the Vortex, etc.

That's what I heard. Dunno.

I remember thinking Andred was mighty cute back in the day.

Rodan in this serial does mention "the guards and the Time Lords" as if she and the guards aren't Time Lords; it's implied Andred's one, though, or has at least been through the Academy (the Doctor asks 'what are they teaching at the Academy these days?')

I like your solution better than my personal grabbing of straws - Ross was partialy behind a corner, so didn't get the whole blast.

I want Ross to be the new Benton!

I love the idea that while Ross is obviously the son of "Jenkins, chap with the wings, five rounds rapid" in The Daemons, his mum could be the sister that Benton mentions in canon. Benton's nephew!

The Doctor is very much and very vocally not fond of guns and violence. Until he's faced with a situation where he uses them. Which is violence frequently, guns in particular less so but still.
