I've run memes like this before for companions and for ships (and I'm trying to dig up links to those) and decided it might be fun to try one for all the episodes of old school Doctor Who. In the comments are threads for every story from An Unearthly Child to The TV Movie (actually, The Curse of Fatal Death, because I couldn't leave Lumley Doc out); reply to these comments with what you loved about the episode, whether it's favourite lines, moments, squee for the rubbish dinosaurs, character love, shippiness, screencap picspam, or just 'best episode ever'. No harshing others' squee, please - there are 160 serials linked, there must be some you loved... Loving on stories generally derided by fandom is positively encouraged.

For some help navigating, this wiki page has the serials in order.

If any have been missed, feel free to stick them on at the end - I've just realised The Myth Makers isn't there...

It awesome simply because of the way the Doctor stares down the War Machine at the end of episode three.

This one is AWESOME, and everyone should see it, absolutely everyone. My bullet-point review, to entice you:

* THE DOCTOR! The end of the third episode, with Doctor advancing upon the War Machine, showing no fear and staring it down contemptuously - OMG YAY! Jesus, One takes no shit from anything or anyone. That was one of the best Doctor moments I've ever seen, for reals. (And he also had some lovely soft moments - this may be one of the best One serials, he takes charge, he's smart, he's fearless, and he relates well with and enjoys his companions. It's brilliant).

* The War Machines were a wee bit silly, though, hee. Oh noes, it can only shoot forward! it has a slow, blocky arm-hammer! it shoots smoke! We're all going to die! Hee, but also, enjoyably camp. :D

* I liked Dodo, damnit! Crappiest send off ever, BOO. She and the Doctor were beyond adorable at the beginning, with some lovely scenes of enjoying each other's company and being helpful to one another. I see nothing particularly wrong with Dodo and while Polly and Ben are easily going to make superb (and better) companions, the ditching of Dodo like that was Not On.

* Oh, but Polly = teh sex. Love her just being so sweet and taking poor Dodo (as much as I like her here, she's not cool enough for the Inferno) out dancing, and chatting up Ben as a favour, and then just generally hanging about and being useful and interested. And also I like the way she was really cool about her job, and pretty proud of where she was working, despite being low on the totem pole. She has a fab attitude, that girl. I mean, she did get hypnotised, but so did many other people, and it weren't her fault, honest. Plus, I love her eye makeup.

* Oh, and Ben in clingy, black, three-quarter sleeves = teh sex. And in a long bathrobe-style coat and HUGE SAILOR PANTS = teh hilarious sex. I very very much like Ben, all down-to-earth and is that a Cockney accent, yes? "That bird saved my life" indeed. Indeed, Ben. I am immediately shipping Ben/Polly, of course...

* More plottily, I liked the London setting, and the MACHINE THAT COULD THINK FOR ITSELF woo, which was well-handled (other than the annoyingly-slow WOTAN voice) and I liked their interpretations/predictions of computing and programming. And when the War Machine was stalking the streets of London there was some very impressive and lovely cinematography, which I greatly enjoyed.

* Wasn't quite as keen on WOTAN calling the Doctor 'Doctor Who' the whole time, but what can you do. He stared down a War Machine, used a monocle, hemmed and hawed, had lovely moments with Dodo (he was concerned about her! He was waiting for her!), had lovely moments with Ben and Polly too, and got told he had FAB GEAR. FAB GEAR. We have a winner.

Ben&Polly proves self as immediately worthy of reverence. Also, One is so badass. Just so well done, I think it's my favorite One serial so far.
