Sep. 27th, 2007 10:35 pmOne True Pairing 'ship: This is a tricky one, since I use OTP to mean "my favourite pairing" or more generally "pairing I write/read/like the thought of", meaning I have many of them. Since the former definition would mean this question's the same as the last one, though, I'm going to go for Ian/Barbara because they're just about the only couple in this universe where reading or writing one of them paired with someone else requires a lot of mental gear-shifting on my part. And I'm constantly forgetting they're not technically telly canon (they're married in the books, though)
Canon 'ship: Gah, this is very much the wrong fandom for this one, because there are virtually no canon ships: even One/Susan's granny is up for debate if you throw in the looooms. And I don't dislike Pete/Jackie (or indeed Martha's parents) but I don't care about them as a couple either. Counting the subtextual ships with Romana/Jamie/Jo/Sarah/Fitz/Rose/Martha/Jack, much as I love them, sort of defeats the 'canon' bit of it. I'll go for Rose/Mickey, and promptly throw a spanner in the works by saying that I like them best in a gleeful post-Doomsday OT3 with Jake.
"If this happens I'll stab my eyes out with a fork" 'ship: Martha/Owen. Seriously. If that happens I'm resigning modship of
"You are one sick bastard" 'ship: WHEN SHE'S OLDER, I cannot stress that bit enough, but... Maria/Martha? Maria/Sarah? And nos did an awesome fic once where Rose was the Doctor's mother and he shagged her anyway. Pre-series Rose/Jack where Jack is 'Jimmy Stone' (falls under sick bastard because Rose would likely be underage, Jack would be basically using her because he can't have her future self, and there's the spectre of retcon since she doesn't know him in the future)
"I dabble a little" 'ship: Oh, so many. Ben/Polly. Five/Tegan (a very little, all the fic I can find seems to be fluffy or angsty instead of bitchy hilarity, which surely defeats the purpose). Ten/Jack (which didn't interest me as much as I assumed it would). Jack/Tosh. And there are the ships I would count as some of my favourites but have written very rarely or not at all - Five/Nyssa, Eight/Charley, Romana II/Leela
"It's like a car crash" 'ship: Ten/Simm!Master, because the Doctor's so desperate for things to work out and the Master's, well, evil and insane. It's not going to end well, but damn, it's hot. Doctor/Master is just about the only pairing I ship regardless of incarnation, actually.
"Tickles my fancy but not sold quite yet" 'ship: Ten/Donna could potentially be brilliant beyond words, I just worry how it's going to go in canon, since we're getting mixed messages from Cardiff already. Not another unrequited love storyline, please
"Makes no canon sense but why the hell not" 'ship: Rose/Martha. Yes, they've never met, it would be pretty difficult to make them meet even with timey-wimey stuff, and they're unassailably in separate universes, and there are massive Doctor issues to be overcome. But they would fight crime and investigate things and be too cute to exist. In fab shoes.
"Everyone else loves it but I just don't feel it" 'ship: Ten/Rose, excluding in The Christmas Invasion and Fear Her, where I like it a lot. I could give an indepth analysis why this pairing doesn't work for me when I love Nine/Rose and a ton of other pairings for both of them but that way lies wank. I'll leave it at "like Romana and Sarah, I ship Rose with one incarnation of the Doctor but not the rest; I'm more interested in her having gen adventures by herself after she's left him".
"When all is said and done" 'ship: Eight/Fitz, natch.
