X-Men2

So our X2 expedition went off with only minor hitches (two of our party getting lost and not making it to the cinema, Sarah not being allowed to take booze in etc). I loved the movie. Loved it, much more than the first one. I'm not coherent enough to do a detailed review, but I'm just going to squee about the slashiness.

My god, I didn't see the Cyclops/Wolverine hoyay in the first movie, but I sure see it now! I thought the homoeroticism had reached a peak with their first scene together (the "fill her up" discussion), then there was that lovely scene at the end with them crying in each other's arms... that's how I want Buffy to end, right there. Angel and Spike just weeping all over each other.

I swear I thought Professor X was going to kiss Scott.

Magneto is fabulous! If I was a mutant, I'd be firmly on the side of killing all humans. I loved that he and Mystique were the bitchy clique sniggering over Rogue's hair.

Buffy shoutout! "Have you tried not being a mutant?"

Iceman... mmmm. Loved his scene in the kitchen with Wolverine. What exactly did his parents think when they saw the sweaty, half-dressed middle-aged man drinking a beer in their kitchen, and their son came down the stairs from the bedroom? The only thing that would have made that scene better would have been if Bobby hadn't changed yet and was still in the t-shirt and boxers.

Professor Logan, teacher of art. Hee.

While we're on the subject of Iceman, isn't it convenient he chooses to date the one girl he has a bona fide excuse to not have a physical relationship with? Just sayin'.

In conclusion: great movie. Slashy as hell. Lovely direction, fight scenes very well done. Nightcrawler is the sweetest thing on Earth and I want to take him home with me.

I swear I thought Professor X was going to kiss Scott.

So did I!

Buffy shoutout!

After that part, I turned to my friend and said, "They SO stole that from Buffy!"

Nightcrawler is the sweetest thing on Earth

I loved how they did the effects for him; it was so brilliant! He was so amazing- he's my new favourite character.

One of my friends raised an interesting possibility: Joss Whedon wrote a script for the original X-Men movie that was rejected. Could the writers of this one have borrowed the "have you tried not being a mutant" line, not realising Joss had used it in Buffy? Anyway, it was a great scene.

Almost definitely? But considering Bryan Singer, he probably knows damn well what it came from.

I want to take Nightcrawler home too. Could we give him the Connorbeast's room?
