(no subject)

My mum recorded me the Doctor Who Weakest Link special, with the uncanny ability she has developed to hone in on any programme featuring John Barrowman. Who, admittedly, is rather hot, as is Mr Tennant - but oh, Noel Clarke, you looked utterly gorgeous on that. I have to agree with Anne Robinson: "so Rose dumps you for the Doctor? What's that about, then? You're better looking than him..." And his indignation at someone not recognising Babylon 5! And Anne Robinson slashing Mickey and Jake! *Sadface* for the lack of Billie, but I think this was recorded while she was starting off in her play or one of the many other things she's got in - speaking of which, I spied Mansfield Park on DVD, with Billie and her bosom prominent on the front cover. I may have to invest in that.

I can't wait to see this. Your mother is wonderful. And Billie's bosom is a thing of wonder. I spent a lot of time while I watched MP being awed at its bountiful prominence. Regency boobs yay!

My mum's Barrowman fixation developed during How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria... "are you sure he's gay?" she's asked wistfully on more than one occasion. ("He has a husband, so I'm quite sure...")

That's so adorable :D

Anne Robinson slashing Mickey and Jake!

I managed to miss this, and this sounds rather intriguing. What did she say?

"so Rose dumps you for the Doctor? What's that about, then? You're better looking than him..."

Oh, so true.

She pointed out that Mickey had seemed to be all about Rose but ended up going off into the sunset with Jake... Noel Clarke, unfortunately, said Mickey ("like me") is "all about women" - though this was another excuse to flirt with Anne, so I cling to Mickey/Jake being canon. *g*

What? You may have to invest in Billie's bosom? There are share options in that now?!?!? What does her portfolio look like? Can we see her stocks and bonds? What sort of assets can she present us with?
;)

It really wasn't very good - the programme that is, not the bosom. I suggest waiting for a dirt cheap copy on eBay, if you buy it at all.

I too heard that it wasn't that good, especially if you happen to have read the book. The little bits of Northanger Abbey I saw as I was taping it last week (haven't had time to watch it yet) looked rather better.

I'm going to give Persuasion a go this week, though am in somewhat of trepidation as it's my favourite and am not sure that adaptation can do it justice. However, it has Rupert Parry-Jones off Spooks as Captain Wentworth, so at least it will be pretty.

Northanger Abbey's my favourite Austen book but I'm dubious how well it'd translate to screen as the really funny bits are in the narrative - will try and grab a copy of it on DVD when it comes out, though.

Yes, that's true, though the dialogue would still be funny on its own, if the audience can see that Catherine is an unreliable narrator-or viewpoint char, rather.

Did you realise it was me, btw?

I used my magic guessing powers! :D

The Amanda Root/Ciaran Hinds version of Persuasion is so good, I really doubt it can be bettered. If you haven't seen that version I strongly recommend it.

*cough* Actually, I did watch it on TV and rather enjoyed it - I am easily entertained and silly dancing and Billie flouncing around in big frocks keep me amused. I was annoyed at the fact that Fanny didn't steal the family silver, ditch the wet relatives and run away to live the highlife in Gay Paree (possibly with an incestuous relationship with her hot brother thrown in there) but I have an inkling Austen purists might have been a wee bit cross at that.

I don't think they had enough money for another location - especially incestuous Gay Paree. Even Bristol was too exotic from them, it seems.

I agree, it was an enjoyable adaptation. Not as dark as the last one I saw, quite flouncy. A fluffy addition to the JA collection :D

Paris might have been tricky as we were at war with the French at the time.
