I was holding off on posting about The Runaway Bride until I had an appropriate Ten/Donna icon, but since I am Photoshopless and none have appeared on [livejournal.com profile] dwicons, I shall have to go without. Woes.

- GALLIFREY. Yes, everyone's said it by this point, but after "[humanity]'s a choice for me" and transcendental pockets I was already on the old-school-canon-whore equivalent of a sugar high, and then he said Gallifrey. And there was much squee. And hey, it only took 2 years, it took 10 the first time round. Cue endless speculation about whether we're getting the Time Lords back next year. (I want the Master or the Rani or Romana or Susan. Pleasepleaseplease.) Oh, on the canon-geekery, I love that he got to do what he wanted to in Logopolis and drain the Thames. How are they going to refill it with a whacking great hole in the ground, though?

- I hold up my hands to it: I was one of those doing much gnashing of teeth at the end of Doomsday because I can't stand Catherine Tate's bloody 'bovvered?' routine; seriously, nails down a blackboard. I thought she was going to be awful. I recant. I thought she was marvellous as Donna, and the character herself was great, slapping the Doctor but still throwing herself in front of him (like Jo!) when the Empress orders his execution and turning him down but with her life having been changed for having met him; a bi tlike Grace, really, wasn't she? Except he didn't get to shove her up against a tree and snog her. Shame.

- On that note, I love that I have a shiny new ship to keep me entertained until the new series. Ten/Donna 4eva! He could turn up at awkward moments and she could slap him a bit more and they could argue in supermarkets. I need fic, people. One day, one glorious day when we're on Twelve and his companion Srr'zz'k!k and the PDAs are being written again they can do series 2b (okay, 28b, then) where Ten goes back for Donna and they have adventures.

- Random stuff I liked: Segways! I bet they have those in Torchwood Cardiff but Jack's banned them after too many sick days due to racing injuries. The sequence where they watch the Earth forming was beautiful.

- I thought Ten was better than he's been in the whole of season 2. I suspect a good part of this is the fact that I find the Ten/Rose interaction intensely irritating most of the time - my favourite bits for both characters in season 2 are when they're separated - but also because he gets to go dark, drowning the Empress's babies and standing to watch as everything burns. This is the man who couldn't bring himself to destroy the Daleks in Genesis (possibly condemning his entire race in the process, of course - you can see why that would leave you with a 'no second chances' outlook)

All in all, I really enjoyed it. And the references to Rose were much more understated than I expected (I'm discussing this a bit in this post over on [livejournal.com profile] simply_who) - I loved "I spent last Christmas with my family", the acknowledgement that it's not just her he's lost, it's the closest thing he has to a family in Jackie and Mickey.

The New Year has many things I'm eagerly awaiting: the Torchwood finale, Sarah-Jane Adventures and the new Eight radio series with a new companion. The last one in particular I'm looking forward to because it's the first Eight audio without Charley, and much as I love her, it's about time (a couple of years past it, really) they gave him someone new to interact with. Doctor Who: a fandom filled with hundreds upon hundreds of often very long multi-part stories, but also one for those of a short attention span, because there's always someone new coming along. I love it so.

And now, I am going to eat turkey stuffing sandwiches until I explode.

I agree as well. I loved Nine with Rose, but I never warmed up to her with Ten. I think they were too insular - too self-centered. Or maybe it's just their chemistry.

But I loved Ten getting all flustered with Donna. I'm really looking forward to Martha.
