I went back through this year's entries with all intentions of posting that 'first line of fanfic in each month' meme and realized that, gosh, I've been quiet this year. And my four year LJ anniversary's coming up, too. I've been active on communities all year, but must make a resolution of some sort to not disappear for weeks at a time.

Fannish stuff I've been enjoying today:

Torchwood as Dad's Army. It makes so much sense!

[livejournal.com profile] wishfulaces wrote the Eight/Fitz ship manifesto and it's a thing of beauty. And I discovered that months later, remembering [livejournal.com profile] uktechgirl's Five/Turlough essay - which correctly describes book!Eight as "canonically a bit gay" - still makes me giggle.

Big Finish is having a short story competition - a story of up to 2500 words, Doctors One to Eight and the telly or audio companions, about someone's life changing because of the Doctor. To be published in one of the Short Trips anthologies. So entering this (though I'm sad they don't seem to be allowing book-canon. Not to mention puzzled as to why all the ideas I have are for Six.)

Oh, and this week's Torchwood:

Yasmin Bannerman (Jabe!) was wonderful. Why hasn't that character been in the whole series? She could be Torchwood's nemesis!

I mentioned at home that she reminded me of Gene from Life on Mars (particularly when she gets Jack to repeat that they're locked in their own base while all the other coppers gather round to mock) and [livejournal.com profile] marymac suggested that Gene could have taught her everything he knows. That would be the most obscure but brilliant crossover ever.

I didn't even catch the character's name, but I Love Her Best.

Ooh, yes, Detective Swanson is Gene. Crossover heaven. She should so very have been in it all along, although given how pathetically mockable Torchwood are, she would've run out of piss-taking things to say quite quickly and gone to deal with some actually dangerous people.

I was totally taking 'canonically a bit gay' from your good self and [livejournal.com profile] wishfulaces, what with being a bit slow to read, er, more than one and a half of the EDAs. But hurrah, now there is a manifesto to make me read things! With canonical gayness in them!

Yes, but now I have specifically mentioned specific books what have the really good canonical gayness, so now you can target your EDA reading!
