livii is running a ficathon for post-Doomsday Rose-centric gen. It's a 750 word limit and you'll be feeding my desire for alt!Torchwood adventures, which means it's practically a public service.

I need to write my

romanathon entry. Well, I need to finish this data inputting stuff for work that's breaking my brain. But I want to be writing my Romanathon story.

Speaking of ficathons, the way

lifeonmartha's going, I foresee Martha Jones being the first character to have a ficathon before she's ever appeared onscreen ~~if I have to run it myself, so help me, I will~~. ETA: I have no self control.

There has been a wave of ficathons lately, haven't there? Still, it might get some entertaining stuff written.

And if the Martha ficathon happened, I would be highly amused ~~and read every last one of them~~.

It would amuse me so much. Though would I ask for Martha/Rose, Martha with old school companions in the present day (because the idea of her as the metaphorical Magrat to Sarah and Jo's Granny Weatherwax and Nanny Ogg gives me joy) or just a gen historical adventure with Zygons? Decisions!

Someone so should write a fic with the Doctor, Martha and Harry, just for all the Doctor gags.

Someone needs to write up a whole heap of crack "Martha meets up with other companions" fics.

Maybe the various Doctors always take their companions to one particular party, forgetting he's been here dozens of times before *g* (One of the Short Trips books has all the companions stuck in a shrinking TARDIS and having to argue over which one of them should be the one survivor - yes, it's the exact plot of the Father Ted episode with the crashing plane, for anyone in the UK - and it's hilarious. And turns out to be fanfic written by Sarah Jane.)

So if we count the audios and handwave Dr Evelyn Smythe in even though she's not a medical Doctor, all of them except the first two have a thing for medical types or people called 'doctor'. Hmm...

Well, considering Grace killed the Doctor, you had a good reason to forget her, medically speaking! :-)

Also, I am seriously thinking about the Marthathon, or rather a mini-ficathon with a really tiny turnaround time (a week, say) and a minimum word count of 500: do you think it would cause wank? I don't want people to think I'm being a Mean Rose H8er (because I'm not, I just think it'd be funneh).

That works, since the whole point would be the ~~lols~~ challenge of writing a character who hasn't appeared in canon yet, and making her Rose/Romana/Jack is cheating.

Now I need a Martha icon... I still only have one with Rose vaguely in it and none with Ten... my icons are so old skool!

Eee, thanks for the pimp! And mentioning the word limit - part of why we went with a smaller limit was to make it seem easy and accessible and then more people sign up, yay. ~~And hopefully end up writing long plotty fic~~.

*grins widely* It has to wait until my romanathon entry goes up, but I have a rather intersting Martha pairing to go up.

Oh! I have a question. Can you explain the desire to write about a character that you haven't met yet?

Because it seems to be common, but I don't understand it at all. Quite a lot of people are loving or hating Martha already and I just... don't get it. We haven't met her yet. It completely baffles me how anything can be said about her that isn't about her looks (which are very nice, but not... character-building). Since you seem to love her already... could you explain how? Because I'm utterly confused, to be honest.

I can't speak for everyone, obviously, but for me it's the ultimate in filling in the gaps - which is what we do as fanfic writers, when you get down to it. We know what she looks like, that she's 23, contemporary, a medical student, possibly has a sister, and that she somehow ends up travelling with the Doctor, and that's it. I love seeing what directions people take that in and the different places they end up with it. Look at how much fic Ten generated when we had five words to go on.

Erm, not really? I'm very enthusiastic about the concept of getting a new companion, as I would be regardless of who s/he was, which doesn't really add up to loving Martha herself (though considering there's only one companion so far I can't stand - Dodo - I'm sure I'll at least like her).

Ah, I also didn't really read any tenth Doctor fanfic until I'd known him for more than ten seconds. It's definitely a 'personal preference' thing, then (I also can't listen to audio books -- audio only is fine for music, apparently, but I can't listen to stories on tape. Personal quirk.).
