Someone on [livejournal.com profile] time_and_chips posted a bit about cut lines and scenes from season 2, from Doctor Who Magazine's special edition. One in particular that interested me, from Age of Steel, in the last scene as Mickey says he's not trying to replace Ricky:

JAKE: You never could. I’ll never have another boyfriend like him.
MICKEY: Okay. Definitely not replacing him.

Yes, I concede they probably did cut it because it seemed a bit too close to the "...and I think I'm kinda gay!" moment from Buffy. I would suggest that this will finally stop the OG arguments over whether the writers were intentionally implying Jake and Ricky were a couple, but of course it won't.

I'm watching Pertwee era, The Curse of Peladon, in which Jo pretends to be a princess and is completely fab. With all the Rose-meets-past-companions fics, I don't think I've seen a Jo one yet. I tried to do one but it descended into giggles and getting plastered on girly drinks and failed to grow a plot anywhere.

I wonder if there was a concern in there as well that it'd be a bit conflicty with the Pete/Jackie reunion?

Good point, hadn't thought of that.

I do wonder about the Jackie and Pete thing and would like to see post-Doomsday fic about that, but I don't think there is any.

I watched my vid what I made the other day, and the Pete/Jackie reunion bit of hugging MAKES ME GO LIKE A GIRL.

Aww, it would have been funny to have kept that.

I guess they wanted to avoid the whole gay agenda thing.

Interesting.

Y'know, it's funny - generally I leap on slash like a leapy thing, plus I have superb gaydar in general (both fictional and real) but I totally missed the Jake/Rickey thing until half the internet were talking about it.

And yeah, that cut line is far too HUGE RAINBOW FLAG INNA SCREEN.

Jo and Rose and girly drinks and talks would be priceless.
But there coulf be a leavening of angst on how to get your Time Lord to d osoemthing before you either find a replacement or he regerates.

I tried to do one but it descended into giggles and getting plastered on girly drinks and failed to grow a plot anywhere.

And that would be bad because...?

Plot? What is this plot of which you speak? It's Jo and Rose; giggles and getting plastered sounds perfectly reasonable and acceptable to me.

So with that line included Mickey/Jake would seem to be ruled out. With that line having been edited out, can we be free to assume that Mickey/Jake are in fact getting jiggy with it?

One can only hope.

But of course they are... (http://pinkdormouse.livejournal.com/492661.html)

I may write more this weekend, if I fulfill my goals for writing original fiction and completing paperwork.
