Home early, because my work had their annual conference, which for most people meant listening to hours of panels on debt and repossession, and for me meant reading a Doctor Who book at the empty reception desk. My mama didn't raise no fool.

Meme! From everyone on the internets, but most recently [livejournal.com profile] melata_fic.

Ask Me My Fandom Opinion

How this works:
1. Ask me one fandom-related question in the comments. This can be fandom specific, general, or about fandom/lj stuff/fic writing/etc. in general. Ask anything...I'm really not bothered.
2. ONE DAMN QUESTION.-- Nah, you can ask more than one, but I might or might not answer it. [I will, because I'm odd like that. Go ahead.]
3. That's it. It can be as normal or odd as you like.

What kind of fic about Batman would you like to read? *g*

I have not even read any Nightwing, and yet I would be all over that slash... (that or cracktastic fic where he and Robin Fight Crime at Mardi Gras, interspersed with Golden Age panels of him looking shocked, because they never fail to crack me up.)

if you could cast anyone as the next doctor, who would you pick?

Oh, tough one. They'd have to be under 45 or so, the production team have said often enough that it'd kill an older person... will think about it (my problem is I don't know many actors!)

If you could pair up any Doctor and any companion from the history of Who (in a show way, not a shippy way - or both, if you want), who would it be.

Six and Tegan because it would just get louder and louder and they'd do it on the console. Ten and Jamie because they could get excited about things and cling to each other and Ten could practice his accent!

Favourite new-school episode? Favourite old-school story? Any points of connection between the choices? (That's all one question, sort of.)

Respectively The Girl in the Fireplace and The Mind Robber, and I suppose there's a connection in the fantasy angle - a little girl being menaced by a clockwork monster under the bed against a gorgeous backdrop of snow over Paris; the weirdness in the Land of Fiction with forests of words and unicorns and missing faces. (Need to watch those both again...)

*snogs you*

I am shamefully lacking in Two episodes, so I can't really compare it to the rest of his run, but The Mind Robber is one of my favourite pieces of television ever, let alone DW. Just so genuinely strange and spooky and able to tap into all the stuff that you don't think is scary until they show you it is. Which is indeed what GitFace does so brilliantly.

(hopefully in the right place this time)

Do you actually like the Doctor or Rose?

ALSO: favourite villain from the new canon?

(A little taken aback at the first question as now I'm worried I give the impression that I don't like the Doctor when he's my Favouritest Character Ever...) I adore the Doctor in all his incarnations; there's got to be some reason I've tracked down 40 years worth of TV, books, audios and misc after all *g* I loved Rose last season, became fairly ambivalent towards her in the break, and have remained so. I occasionally like her a lot but I think she's gone as far as she can and it's time for the next one.

Favourite villain: hrm. The Daleks and Cybermen don't really count... The Slitheen were a bit rubbish, but I liked Margaret a lot in Boomtown. The Editor would probably rate higher with me if Simon Pegg hadn't been much scarier as corporate evil in Black Books. Does Adam count? I <3 Adam.

Oh no no no, it's not you! And I probably meant new Doctor rather than 'The Doctor'. It's just that I assumed, from the huge anticipation and swell of squee that happened, back when new Who started, that everyone loved him beyond compare, and I was the only one who found him annoying. But now 'slappable twats' seems to come up a lot on [livejournal.com profile] nostalgia_lj's polls. Which is a bit of a revelation. So I thought I'd take the opportunity to check ;)

I keep meaning to watch old Who some day, to see if I like that better.

Nine, in retrospect, is deeply fucked up in his obsession with Rose, but that fits with what the character's been through. And I love Ten. Yeah, he's occasionally slappable, but almost all characters are; I really appreciate the little touches of previous Doctors Tennant throws in to the performance.

Crossover time... The Doctor's new companion is any character from any other fandom. Who do you pick?

I'm tempted by Jeff from Coupling, JD from Scrubs, and Ginny Weasley... but I'll have to go with Norrington from Pirates of the Carribean. He's so sensible and noble and British and would utterly remind the Doctor of the Brig and calm his zanier tendencies down a bit.

He'd speak too.

And now I'm seeing a cpmpletely new version of The Twin Dilemna - with Jeff voiceover.

Hee, someone else thought of Norrington as like the Brig. *loves them*

Mind you, JD in the TARDIS? That would rock. And the Doctor could be his long sought after father figure. Sort of.

JD as the Doctor's companion would be the most amazing thing ever. Wow.

"It was at that moment I realised the Doctor was the father figure I had always wanted..." It would be great! And nobody would believe that JD had gone anywhere, since the Doctor would manage to steer the TARDIS right this time and return him before the end of his lunch break.

Most of my fondness for the books stems from the boarding school stories I devoured as a kid. I love Remus and Ginny, I like Ron and Hermione a lot in the books but less so in the movies (though I thought both actors were much better in the most recent movies), I ship pretty any combination of the Trio but prefer them as a threesome, and have a soft spot a mile wide for Maurauders-era Remus/Sirius. I like canon-Draco but he bores me in most fic. I neither love or hate Snape but think it's blatantly obvious he's not one of the bad guys. MacGonagall is awesome. Ever since Half-Blood Prince I've been convinced Ginny/Blaise Zabini would be The Sex, oh yes.

Most of my British Comedy Loves, like Coupling, Black Books and Teachers. Also Scrubs, but the show's narration is so stylized and so based on visual humour that I can see where it'd be difficult to write for (same with Arrested Development)

Fairly high, though not until after we'd drunk all the absinthe, rotisseried the dead bees on the windowsill, and he'd howled in vain for Manny to come and pour his drink at least five thousand times...

Are you still interested in House at all, and would you hate me if I was, hypothetically, like, "So the ficathon last summer? I was totally supposed to write for you. And I even plotted a House/Cuddy/Wilson/Car fic. And, um, then my muse died. Sorry?"

In a totally theoretical way, mind.

*g* Still interested, I just managed to completely miss the second season on TV and am waiting for the DVD, and I'm almost sure I was meant to write for you and had a similar muse-suicide, so it's all good...

Scrubs. I have a couple of ideas in my head, but the problem is I know I want to do JD/Cox, I want it to be set in season 4 or 5, but there's Jordan. I adore Jordan. I wish she was mine. And I don't want to either put her out of the picture or turn her into a Yenta, so manye OT3's the way to go...

Jordan rocks. But... she is kinda evil. So any pairing involved in the fic should take this into account and maybe have some ulterior motive. *grin*
