March-ish 2005: [livejournal.com profile] doyle_sb4 is persuaded, very reluctantly, to watch Rose, first episode of the new Doctor Who series; she whines that she's not at all interested in DW but is swayed by the fact that the episode's written by Russell T Davies, creator of (the original) Queer as Folk.
Three viewings of same episode later: [livejournal.com profile] connorbeast asks "so, do you want to just write Buffy fandom that Dear John letter now?"
March 2006: [livejournal.com profile] doyle_sb4 looks at her floor-to-ceiling bookcase full of DW books, videos and DVDs and thinks "you know, I must get onto that."

God, I hate it when I go third-person. Anyhoo, I'm just dropping a note here to say that if any of you guys have me friended purely for Buffyverse fic/stuff and are liable to be very annoyed if I start talking even more about Doctor Who than I have been doing - and I want to, it's my exclusive shiny lovely One True Fandom and I want to do the squeeing and reviewing thing and have been holding back for fear of annoying people, which is kind of insane - like it says on my userinfo, every day's defriending amnesty day and I understand completely if you want to take me off your reading list. (I'll probably reciprocate, since I'm rapidly approaching LJ's mythic 750 friends limit). I promise I will neither hunt you down like a wild dog nor shed an emo tear as I wonder where it all went wrong.

It's so the Fandom That Ate My Life and Soul. I went from "I'll watch the new one but not the old series" to "I'll watch the old series but not any of the extended universe" to my current state of trying to get my mitts on every episode, audio, PDA, EDA, MA, NA, Telos novella, Target novelisation... and it's so *huge* and yet relatively un-ficced, and I keep finding awesomeness. Like the Doctor Who Quiz Book of Science, which may in fact be mankind's greatest literary achievement, and which I need to post about later tonight.

Yeah, when I get into a fandom I want to know about everything. This can prove costly and time consuming and involve uber-nerdish things like spreadsheets. Also if my new DVD burner ever arrives I can set you up with episodes and stuff, just say the word.

at the very least, once my computer is up and running again i'll need hints as to where to poke around for things. i feel as the technology is the only thing saving me keeping me from fandom ;)

Doctor Who Quiz Book of Science

Omg, I can't wait to hear about that one! Sounds absolutely divine.

I'm falling into this fandom fast too, but can't possibly get through everything like you have been! I admire your dedication, however, and love reading about what you've read or seen.

It is all about Five teaching Tegan and Nyssa about science as if they're eight. It is awesome.

I admire your dedication

More like my OCD... *cries*

Oh my god, that's divine.

More like my OCD...

Erm, well, there's that too. But it produces great fic and commentary and stuff, yes! So there is an upside. Erm, for us. Well, you know.

Man, I have to scan some of the illustrations. On first opening the book I was startled at one of the pictures until I realised it's meant to be Tegan, and not Turlough in a skirt.

Do they get smacked if they get things wrong?

I think the Doctor needs smacked for the bit that starts "As you know, all us humans have a body temperature of 37 degrees..." All us humans, indeed.
