Nina/Willow: First Left At Albuquerque
Nov. 17th, 2005 10:59 pmDisclaimer: there is a common perception that femslash is mostly composed of fluffy curtainfic with no pr0n. While this is not true, it describes this particular fic pretty aptly.
Title: First Left At Albuquerque
Author: Doyle
Pairing: Nina/Willow
Rating: PG-13
Notes: for the Nina round (yay!) of
femslash_minis. I was writing for
settiai who wanted a hotel room, ice cream and discussion of past relationships.
“You know something?” said Nina. “There are times when I just stop and think ‘wait, how can this be my life?’ Like, you know,” she added as Willow lifted her hand and the blue bars around her vanished in a sparkle of stars that Nina was convinced she only added to the magic because it was pretty, “right about now. You ever get that?”
Willow shrugged. “My girlfriend’s a werewolf. That’s okay. Not really the first time, for me. I mean, not that I’ve had ‘girlfriend’ and ‘werewolf’ at the same time, but it’s still kind of been there, done that, got the Lesbians Against Fur t-shirt.”
“You know, you should wear that more often. Shows off your boobs.” The cage gone, Nina sprawled back across the towels they’d spread across the floor for wolf-her to sleep on. At least, last night they’d been towels. This morning there was a pile of shredded rags. She lifted the one that had an amputated H and OTE across it and tried to remember which hotel they were in this week. Even which state would be a start. Or what they were doing. Chasing another apocalypse, another unknowing Slayer, just something as mundane as a demon infestation? One of these days she was going to use her date planner as something other than a doodle book.
“Are you okay?” Willow asked, and Nina held out her hands and let her girlfriend help her up and only copped the tiniest bit of a feel when she staggered. It was always weird coordinating two legs.
“I’m okay,” she said. And she was. She was naked, but after nineteen full moons that didn’t bother her, and if it bothered Willow she’d be frankly offended. Her teeth and tongue were coated with nasty-tasting gunk and she itched all over and some time in the next hour she was going to need to take a long bath and eat her own weight in food and have a lot of sex with a cute redhead. Probably in that order.
She yawned so widely she thought she was about to swallow her own head, and added ‘sleep’ to that list. “Tired.”
“You were prowling around all night.”
She remembered throwing herself at the bars and bouncing back, growling, angrier at the magic than she ever got at steel. Another month, Willow had said, one more moon, and then they’d be back in London with real cages, places they could stay for more than a week at a time. Fingers laced together, she tried to stretch out the kinks in her back. “I couldn’t sleep. My girlfriend locked me in a magical cage in a hotel bathroom. She’s a real witch - oh. Yeah. Just there.”
“Maybe you should get into bed…” Willow’s fingers stroked her back. Nina lifted her head hopefully. “Get some sleep.”
“But I’m not tired,” she said, almost in one long yawn.
“I’ll be back in a little while,” Willow said, and Nina couldn’t help notice that she was being led into the bedroom like a little kid, and she didn’t have to energy to complain about it. “I need to talk to Rona. Want me to pick you up breakfast?”
“Bacon. And Doritos. And Baskin-Robbins, the one with rum in it.”
“I don’t think any of the flavours have rum in them.”
“That’s okay, you can add the rum.” She crawled under the bed clothes with every intention of making a nest. Did wolves nest? She couldn’t remember.
Her senses were still at intensity 20. Breakfast the night after a full moon was her favourite meal of the month because she could taste every atom of the food, like she’d smoked all the pot in the world. She sleepily licked her lips at the thought of her bacon and Doritos and ice-cream, and when the bed dipped and Willow kissed the tiny patch of her forehead still poking out from the blankets she forgot how to distinguish smell and taste and sight; red and gold blazed behind her eyelids.
“I get what you were saying before,” Willow said, but it was far away and maybe Nina was already dreaming. “About not knowing how you got this life.”
“Just lucky,” she whispered back. “That’s all.”

on 2005-11-18 01:31 am (UTC)I really really really like this! Perfect length and Willow!voice. It's really sweet and yeah. Like. The feel of it is very comfortable... if that makes any sense at all!?
I've never really thought of Nina as anything other than "girl in the way of some hot Angel/Wesley action" (heh) but this was fantastic and I'm now rethinking my thoughts concerning Nina... 'cause Nina pairings could definitely work!
Thanks! :)
