(no subject)

If I win the three auctions I'm bidding on eBay this weekend, within the next week I'll have or have access to every complete episode of Doctor Who aside from Planet of the Spiders.

O.o

Considering I'd never seen it before Rose? That's a scary little testament to the power of my obsession.

Snicker...

So basically you're saying your turning into Vince Tyler????

hehehehe....

I have got to know the source of your immense wealth. *confused*

They're mostly downloaded, nicked from people or bought cheap off eBay... (and I have a job! A temping job with the NSPCC but it lets me buy things. And I owe you Five episodes, will be sending those this week.)

[identity profile] lasultrix.livejournal.com 2005-11-05 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Eee, I'd forgotten! Thanks so much. I have Castrovalva, Earthshock and Caves of Androzani already.

Oh, I watched Six's first episode today and it is Made Of Genius. He insists he's very pleased to have regenerated since he was never happy being Five (Peri: But you were so sweet... Six: Sweet? Sweet? Effete!) and that Five was so repressed that he was borderline neurotic. Five/Six OTP! (And Colin Baker is in one of Five's episodes! He's a Gallifreyan guard who shoots him and I suspect he's actually Six gone mad.)

You hadn't seen that one yet?! Ah, I love it so! Colin Baker saying 'Sweet!' is right up there with Rowan Atkinson saying 'Bob'.

Go you!

That's just being a completist:)

I haven't started a download of Planet of the Spiders yet, but I found a torrent file I can e-mail you, if you'd like.

[identity profile] randomalia.livejournal.com 2005-11-05 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
That's...actually quite impressive. Wow. :D Have you watched much of them yet?

[identity profile] doyle_sb4.livejournal.com 2005-11-05 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I am anal enough to have a list of what I've watched... let's see. Including the TV movie, I make it 131 original adventures (pre-Ninth Doctor). I've completely watched 65 and watched bits of a dozen or so others.

I will have seen them all by Christmas, dammit!

[identity profile] randomalia.livejournal.com 2005-11-06 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
*applauds* That's dedication. You're in a great position to see the differences/similarities/interesting stuff about the Doctor(s) and companions.

Yay! That's quite impressive. I vow to see them all too, though at a somewhat slower pace...

Obsession is good...

Obviously you don't have UK Gold...that's how I got them all.

So what have/haven't you seen, and what did you love/hate? I still haven't watched them all and I've been watching since Tom Baker's early years (possibly even earlier, but The Deadly Assassin is the earliest I have any memory of, and if you haven't watched it yet I strongly recommend it, it's still one of my all-time favourites).

By the way, friend me back please? It's Mark here, from [livejournal.com profile] qub_scifi.

The Deadly Assassin is brilliant, the BBC needs to get that one out on DVD.

Other stuff I love: An Unearthly Child (first episode only, I thought the caveman stuff was a bit slow), The Edge of Destruction, Dalek Invasion of Earth (far better than the Peter Cushing version, unsurprisingly), The Romans, The Mind Robber (probably my favourite episode so far), Spearhead From Space, Robots of Death, The Talons of Weng-Chiang, Horror of Fang Rock, City of Death, The Creature From the Pit, State of Decay, the regeneration trilogy (Keeper of Traken/Logopolis/Castrovalva), Kinda, Black Orchid, The Visitation, Earthshock, Enlightenment, The Five Doctors, Planet of Fire (mostly for shallow, Turlough-fixated reasons), The Caves of Androzani, The Greatest Show in the Galaxy, Battlefield, Ghost Light, Curse of Fenric

I loved The Web Planet for all the wrong reasons, because it's just funny to see people who clearly trained at the RSC pretending to be ants and bees.

Episodes which I know are bad/loathed throughout fandom but which I enjoyed anyway, mostly because I was laughing at them: Carnival of Monsters, The Time Monster, The Horns of Nimon, Delta and the Bannermen, The Happiness Patrol (the Kandyman is terrifying and I defy anyone to tell me otherwise. I almost fell off the sofa when he came on. I remember seeing this as a little kid.)

Stuff I've hated: For my money Time and the Rani's the worst I've seen yet. I didn't exactly hate The Ark in Space but it was very slow. Time-Flight's pretty awful, although it has the Master in it and I'll watch almost anything with the Master in it.

That's impressive! Obsession can be a wonderful thing when it's aimed at a target like Dr Who.

Just make sure you don't turn your obsession to something like "Last of the Summer Wine" next, OK? :D
