Skimming the latest [livejournal.com profile] shoebox_project (only skimming since I've only read the first two or three parts and plan to catch up some day, but am curious as to all the squeeing on my friends list) and I'm confuzzled by this reference: "Mary-Ann. Really? Hm. Well, you're no Ginger, that's for certain."

...wassat mean? *dumb*

It's a reference to the two "cute girls" of Gilligan's Island, with one being cuter than the other.

Ohh, right!

It's never been aired in the UK, to the best of my knowledge. *googles* Oh, for 13 weeks (in the 60s?) and on a cable channel in the 80s or 90s. Never seen it myself though from synopses I've read I physically need to own the DVDs.

Mary Ann (beautiful girl next door type) and Ginger (sexy actress)refer to characters on Gilligan's Island and the dabate as to which is hotter.

It's a Gilligan's Island reference. Mary-ann was the wholesome girl next door one and Ginger was the glamerous movie star one. Does the help?

Speaking of references-we-don't-get, what the hell are jelly babies? Are they gummi bears with an English name?

[identity profile] doyle_sb4.livejournal.com 2005-08-19 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Basically. But they are shaped like babies, not bears *g*

It all makes sense now!

Dude, that's kinda disturbing.

word!

You have to bite the head off first. It's like a rule.

That's always a rule, though. Gummy animals, animal crackers, etc.

There's also the fact that Jelly Babies taste ten-times better than Gummi Bears.. plus they also make you feel sick from eating too many ten-times quicker.
