Jul. 12th, 2005 11:21 pmWow. I didn't expect to love this nearly as much as I did. The first episode had me falling madly in love with Susan - I love her dancing alone in the classroom to the little personal radio and getting excited about the music charts. The last five months in the 60s have been the happiest of her life - awww. Hmm, and she gets confused about pre-decimal currency, implying that before she started going to Coal Hill she's been in England sometime after the late seventies. This was obviously around 1998, when she met 15-year-old Mickey and they had their intense Romeo and Juliet first love thing. Which totally happened. It did.
The Doctor's very, very different, quite scary in parts, and I nearly fell off the bed when he almost murdered an injured, unarmed man. Very superior to the humans around him and while he obviously loves Susan he also sulks like a kid when he doesn't get his own way (and it's awfully heartless the way he threatens to abandon Susan in the 60s if she doesn't go along with what he wants).
I really can't figure out if Ian and Barbara were already dating or if the mad shagging that clearly went on only started when they joined the TARDIS crew. Either way, I love their relationship, even though Barbara is a Cherie Blair lookalike.
The cavemen are awfully well-spoken, but I suppose the TARDIS is helpfully translating for everyone.
I've already seen The Aztecs and The Dalek Invasion of Earth, and I've started straight into The Sensorites (it's rather sweet seeing the little scene at the beginning where they talk about how they've all changed in the past year - Susan is calling Ian and Barbara by their first names and the Doctor seems to have mellowed immensely, and has made it through a whole episode without trying to kill anybody. I'm very proud.)
Must see everything that has Susan in it. I've been buying videos off eBay and I'm downloading (shhh) all the Seventh Doctor episodes I don't own. It's a bad idea to introduce someone who's rather compulsive to a fandom with 900 episodes. Epsecially when 100 or so are still missing. They are going to haunt me, argh.
