Jul. 9th, 2005 12:27 amMy cunning plan of renting the DVDs instead of buying is not working out well. This is the second one that I've loved so much I've had to buy it (the first was The Visitation, and I have no idea why there isn't Five/Richard Mace fic out there).
I've seen Two in The Three Doctors and The Five Doctors but I wasn't aware quite how adorable he is; I love his near-perpetual look of being on the verge of tears, especially the hysterical "NOW I'VE LOST HIS FACE!" Also he, Jamie and Zoe are so the original TARDIS-crew OT3. I need icons. Speaking of Zoe - who I noticed hails from the far-flung future of 2000 - love the catsuit, and there's an impressive slow close-up of her arse as the TARDIS goes boom and she and Jamie cling to the console. And Jamie grabs her boob at one point. And Two does quite a lot of clinging to her.
But the best bit of the whole thing - apart from Gulliver and Rapunzel and the plasticine snakes and the forest of words and the robots that looked like they'd been made by the Blue Peter crew and the fact that it all looked really, really cool - the fanfic duel! Where the Doctor and the not-really-the-Master-Master battle each other with Cyrano and D'Artagnan and Lancelot by making up stories that come true! "Imagine that power in the hands of Livejournal"
Brilliant stuff. Must see more Two. Patrick Troughton has an amazing voice, too, so grandly old-BBC.

on 2005-07-29 02:34 pm (UTC)I never thought of Jo/Three as a couple... but then, I was little when I saw the Three episodes.
As for the companions? In the novel Matrix, Seven and Ace meet up with Ian and Barbara, who are openly living together, if not married (can't remember which). Then from First/Second era, there's Ben and Polly. They came on the TARDIS together, they left together, and it's generally accepted fanon that they stayed together after that. Fourth/Romana 2 I totally agree with, although it's not such a surprise, given the actors wound up married for a while. I managed to re-watch the original Black Guardian trilogy (Mawdryn Undead, Terminus & Enlightenment) and Tegan and Turlough have some serious love/hate UST going on!

on 2005-07-29 02:42 pm (UTC)There's a First Doctor novel, Byzantium, which has Ian and Barbara married with a son - who I think grows up to marry Tegan in one of the books?

She wanders off and comes back in the skintight sparkly catsuit...
Jamie: That's better.
