doyle: tardis (first doctor oh shit!)

My cunning plan of renting the DVDs instead of buying is not working out well. This is the second one that I've loved so much I've had to buy it (the first was The Visitation, and I have no idea why there isn't Five/Richard Mace fic out there).

I've seen Two in The Three Doctors and The Five Doctors but I wasn't aware quite how adorable he is; I love his near-perpetual look of being on the verge of tears, especially the hysterical "NOW I'VE LOST HIS FACE!" Also he, Jamie and Zoe are so the original TARDIS-crew OT3. I need icons. Speaking of Zoe - who I noticed hails from the far-flung future of 2000 - love the catsuit, and there's an impressive slow close-up of her arse as the TARDIS goes boom and she and Jamie cling to the console. And Jamie grabs her boob at one point. And Two does quite a lot of clinging to her.

But the best bit of the whole thing - apart from Gulliver and Rapunzel and the plasticine snakes and the forest of words and the robots that looked like they'd been made by the Blue Peter crew and the fact that it all looked really, really cool - the fanfic duel! Where the Doctor and the not-really-the-Master-Master battle each other with Cyrano and D'Artagnan and Lancelot by making up stories that come true! "Imagine that power in the hands of Livejournal" [livejournal.com profile] connorbeast said as we both watched in awe and a little fear.

Brilliant stuff. Must see more Two. Patrick Troughton has an amazing voice, too, so grandly old-BBC.

Hee. I was just watching The Omen on VHS, a movie I haven't seen in ages and certainly not since my recent Who obsession. So, when the priest walks in and starts begging Gregory Peck to accept Christ, I jump up in my chair and nearly scream, "OMGWTFSECONDDOCTORPOLARBEAR!"

Or something. It was hilarious.

How do Rose/Doctor hold up against the other companion/doctor pairings?

It's the most overtly shippy, but Five was definitely working his way up to holding hands with boobalicious Peri (who everyone on Earth but me hates, oh noes) and as everyone's said, Four/Romana II! Jo and Three were *soinloveomg* but he had a complex about his age and refused to take hints like "I suppose I'm keen on my new love interest because he's like a younger version of you, Doctor". And I'm pretty sure Two holds hands with Jamie at one point in The Mind Robber. And Eight snogs Grace several times.

In conclusion, of course he's asexual! How dare you suggest otherwise! *g*

I realise that you probably haven't read any of the 8th doctor books, but all this fuss about 9 and Rose? It's so based on Eight and Sam Jones. Even as she's jumping into the TARDIS, when the Doctor gives his alias of John Smith (which I must say, I'm glad they dropped for 9, though it was necessary in the books), she says 'Smith and Jones? We're just made for each other'. In about half the books Sam is in, she gets mistaken for his girlfriend or wife by an observer. Hell, in the last book she's in, the other companion they've picked up, Fitz, remarks to himself that Eight and Sam move about the TARDIS kitchen together like a long-time married couple.

I never thought of Jo/Three as a couple... but then, I was little when I saw the Three episodes.

As for the companions? In the novel Matrix, Seven and Ace meet up with Ian and Barbara, who are openly living together, if not married (can't remember which). Then from First/Second era, there's Ben and Polly. They came on the TARDIS together, they left together, and it's generally accepted fanon that they stayed together after that. Fourth/Romana 2 I totally agree with, although it's not such a surprise, given the actors wound up married for a while. I managed to re-watch the original Black Guardian trilogy (Mawdryn Undead, Terminus & Enlightenment) and Tegan and Turlough have some serious love/hate UST going on!

I haven't read any of the Eight books, though I've listened to some of the audio plays put out by Big Finish, where he appears to have a very Nine/Rose relationship going with Charley (Eight gets around, doesn't he?)

There's a First Doctor novel, Byzantium, which has Ian and Barbara married with a son - who I think grows up to marry Tegan in one of the books?

I love the scene where she's trying on clothes and comes out in a perfectly respectable outfit:

Jamie: You look like a wee [what I presume is Gaelic for 'whore'], woman!
She wanders off and comes back in the skintight sparkly catsuit...
Jamie: That's better.
