I picked up a copy of the new Angel comic, The Curse. I liked it - written by Jeff Mariotte and the art's a lot better than I've seen in any of the Buffy comics I've skimmed - but one bit in particular made me squee.

I knew the plot was that Angel heads off to Romania to try and break his curse. I didn't think this would be because of Nina, but I'm very happy that this is so, because it allowed me my sad fangirl shipper squee and because I got comic-Nina! Yay! Okay, just one panel, but it's purty and I can make me an icon:

And while I'm talking comics, I've been catching up on Ultimate X-Men and Excalibur and... wow, Professor X and Magneto are seriously OTP.

Xavier describes meeting Erik for the first time...

That's from part of the arc where we meet Xavier's son, David/Proteus, who's a tad psychotic and who's never forgiven Charles for leaving his wife and child for Erik (well, he *does*. And they run away to an island together, though it all goes horribly wrong when he realizes Magneto wants to kill all humans and they fight and Charles ends up paralyzed, but anyway...)

So, Xavier fakes Magneto's death but actually wipes his memory and gives him a new life in a not-unlike-Angel way. Erik doesn't remember him but Xavier 'accidentally' runs into him at the park after David's death and tells him he's disbanding the X-Men, he's decided Magneto was right all along; he admits that he couldn't even cry at his own son's funeral, "my wife needed me to hold her and all I could think was that she was getting mascara on my shirt". Then mind-wiped Erik reveals that he's come around to Charles' way of thinking on mutant/human integration and Charles realizes there's a chance Erik is redeemable and it's all rather lovely...

And that's not even getting into how Charles refers to him as "dear, sweet Erik" or the living together and 'bookends of the same soul' speech in Excalibur. So. Canon.

As is Colossus/Wolverine, but I haven't got those panels to hand. I love the "well, since we're about to die, maybe we should be honest..." "no we shouldn't." conversation. Poor Colossus.
