Ack. I'm trying to write Dawn/Anya/Gunn for [livejournal.com profile] marenfic's Sandwich Ficathon and it's not working. Even trying my two favourite plot devices (Wishverse and post-apocalypse) isn't helping. I can't get Anya's voice at all - I don't think I can write Buffyverse fic that's not from a British character's POV any more. I've gone rusty.

May have to leave it till tomorrow and have a go at my Rose Tyler ficathon assignment instead.

*pets* I will loan you Robots of Death and The Talons of Weng-Chiang to cheer you up.

Currently am cheering self up for losing THREE SUCCESSIVE AUCTIONS of Terror of the Autons today by watching the Earthshock extras. I *have* to get that episode. Its novelisation kept me awake in clammy fear for days on end when I was wee and nipped my habit of getting DW novelisations out of the library in the bud because it was just that scary.

I've heard Talons of Weng-Chiang is good. I think I have Robots of Death here *checks* yep, got it on VHS a couple of weeks ago, but haven't round to watching it (since that would require me attaching the video to the TV and wah, effort)

It has the CUTEST VICTORIAN GENTLEMEN EVER.

VILLAIN: *threats of agonising deaths on par with anything Fleming could have dreamed up*
VICTORIAN GENTLEMAN 1: You ghastly bounder!

In one of his genius Dalek movies the Peter Cushing Doctor exclaims " 'pon my soul!" I demand that all the rest of the Doctors take to saying this. And also to introducing themselves as 'Doctor Who'.

[identity profile] lasultrix.livejournal.com 2005-07-03 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
*outrage* No! Nobody on the show should say Doctor Who. 'tis just plain wrong.

Do you have any Hartnell recs? A fabulous documentary on the Talons of Weng-Chiang extras (presented by an impossibly youthful Melvyn Bragg!) had many seriously cool clips from his run. I s'pose if I'm only to buy one, I should buy the Dalek Invasion of Earth, since it made Sky's Top Ten Sci-Fi Moments and I don't have any other Dalek ones. Then again, I know nothing about any of his other episodes.

Yes, Dalek Invasion is good - The Aztecs is a cheesy good time, and sees One getting engaged, which would seem a bit at odds with the 'omg pre-Nine Doctors HAVE NO WILLY' thing.

Dawn/Anya/Gunn? I think my little brain just broke.

[identity profile] doyle_sb4.livejournal.com 2005-07-03 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
*g* My other two options are Dawn/Anya/Wesley and Dawn/Anya/Illyria, and while the second's tempting I've written both of them before...

[identity profile] jetpack-monkey.livejournal.com 2005-07-03 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, the other two options are much easier. Because Wesley has chemistry with everything. And Illyria!sex is just too good to pass up. But I can see not wanting to repeat yourself.

Could.

Say.

That.

Anya's not American, she's demon! You can blame any inconsistencies on that! ;)

[identity profile] appomattoxco.livejournal.com 2005-07-03 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Anya voice is easy just ask yourself "If I could get away with saying anything what would I say?" I just think of her as a really old lady in a young body. She's not hurtful but she doesn't have the time to use tact, after all what's a measly little 60-70 years compared to the 1100 she's lived.

Of course this doesn't jive too well with that flashback episode but season seven was all a soul induced hallucination anyway ;). Gunn I have no clue how to write but I don't think the writers on the show did either so you can't lose.
