Ever seen he got a letter from his ISP about exceeding his monthly bandwidth limit by quite a lot - not my fault, I didn't know there was such a thing, I'm spoiled by my usual student-house ISP and its unlimited downloads - my dad's taken to hovering behind me at the computer demanding to know how much I'm downloading. Even when I point out Net Meter in the corner happily recording how much I've downloaded. Even when I say that the limit's been increased to 30GB and even *I* can't have gone over that in the whole 3 days I've been home this month. He seems convinced that Wanadoo are going to come over and torch the house.

He also wants to put my graduation notice in the local paper. I've said no, but was a tiny bit puzzled at his proposed copy - "[my name], youngest son of [parents names] graduated from Queen's with a 2:1 in Astrophysics" etc...

Mum and I stared at him blankly for quite a long time before I asked, "Dad, you do remember I'm a girl?"

In fandomy stuff, since I get guilty when I veer off into the RL, I now have 9 Jack icons. Not nearly enough! And I need to do Five Companions Jack Never Shagged, but who to pick? Rose and Adric are givens, of course...

I'm always one to root for Leela . . . Leela doesn't get enough attention.

I actually haven't seen any of Leela yet - I've seen mostly One, Three, Five and Seven (and I have to write Jack/Jo Grant, come to think of it. Or just Jo fic in general.) I could have a bash at Jack/Louisa DiMarco from EastEnders, since that's where I know the actress from, but I doubt it'd be the same...

Not at all. And Talons of Weng Chiang, while a fabulous story, really doesn't do her justice. Basically think Xena meets Anya. Fun, fun character. If it hadn't been for the stupid mechanical dog . . .

Ha, I've seen The Leisure Hive where Romana accidentally kills K9 and looks guilty for about an eighth of a second before promptly shifting blame onto the Doctor. I laughed evilly.

It was the *only* good thing about that episode. . .

Gods, I so need an old school DW icon

Dads are a funny kind of people. According to mine, I've been nineteen for the past three years.

I read the second paragraph through about 4 times and freaked for a bit thinking "Have I actually been talking to Doyle for the last 2 years and completely missed the penis-having?!".

Then I read on and all was well. *breathes* Even I'm not that oblivious...

What do you mean, Jack never shagged Rose? :-P

Parents hovering over one's shoulder are a pain, especially when half one's flist seems to have slashy or smutty icons today.

I nearly texted you earlier. The text would have gone like this:

"You'd slash Blackadder and the Prince given half a chance, wouldn't you?"

Incidentally, Earthshock, Caves of Androzani, and Talons of Thingy are all sitting on my table right now. :)

Hmm, the Prince Regent or Prince? Either would be intriguing...

I really really really wanted to study astrophysics when I was 12-15. /random

Dad's huh? You have to tell them something at least three times before it sinks in and even then they have to clarify it reguarlly....

Wow, that's a Dad story to top most.

My Dad has been known, at times, to call me "#4" (I'm the fourth child, which fact he seems to remember more easily than my name). And he wanted me to become a novelist rather than study physics, for reasons I never did comprehend. But, so far as I recall, he hasn't forgotten my gender yet.

AGREED.

P.S. - what's the "OpenID" user thing when you comment here?? Never seen that before?

My parents forget my name and occasionally my species (sometimes they call me by the cat's name), but so far they haven't called me a boy... well, unless one counts when I was still unborned and mom thought I was one.

Jack!

Sorry, I've just recently realised - well, in the runup to Parting of the Ways, I guess - that I adore good old Captain Bisexul. Just love the big slut.

Heheheh...

I had much the same conversation with my mum about graduation notices. Except she did remember what sex I am...
And she gave me these doleful looks every time she saw someone else's notice in the paper. Which made me want to kill her...

Say, did you convince youir mum to go with the trousers and top combo? I need to know what she was trying to make you wear. I really do. 'Hideous' is making me think of too many weird things.
