Just back from seeing h2g2 (quite a bit later than expected, due to the apparent difficulty of getting a whole two of my friends in the same place at the correct time. And one of them lives with me.) But *squee!*

[livejournal.com profile] marymac and I are at war, because we both claim Mos Def for our own. (He's totally mine. Don't tell her.)[she lies!]

...okay, wresting back my keyboard from marauding housemates...

I loved it. There are some things I missed - like "mostly harmless", the explanation for the towels, Marvin's speech about the doors - but I didn't even think of them till after the film. The dolphins! The dolphins' song! And Stephen Fry as both the Guide and the narration for the Magrathea chronicle was suitably droll.

The Vogons were superb. I demand an all-singing all-dancing Vogon movie.

I'm guessing the Ford/Arthur, Ford/Zaphod, Zaphod/everyone slash is being written as I type? Because it wouldn't be much of a leap. Lots of hugging and random touching. Doctor/Rose level of random touching going on, here.

I love, love, love Mos Def, and the line "you're not really from Guildford? Well, that would explain the accent, I've always wondered." I love the idea that Arthur was just always too polite to ask why Ford had an American accent. Martin Freeman was excellent.

Original Marvin! And the warning system at Magrathea was the original Arthur, wasn't it? And the theme tune! I loved the original series, even though it had a budget of 7p, so I was so happy they kept the theme.

I almost cried when I thought Marvin was [spoiler], but then he picked up the [spoiler] and [spoilered] the Vogons. And it was good.

Wanna see it again. Want DVD. Want extra scenes. Mostly want more Vogons and a Mos Def of my own.

But was there a Serenity trailer attached to it?

[identity profile] doyle_sb4.livejournal.com 2005-04-29 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope. UK release date's later, though, AFAIK?

Ahh, good point.

I agree, Mos Def is very cute as Ford. I can't decide if I want my very own Ford or my very own Zaphod (yes, I'm twelve).

That last Marvin scene was adapted perfectly for the movie. The original wouldn't have worked as well, I think. It got the loudest laugh from the audience.

I spotted original Marvin, too and it almost made me tear up. I wanted to jump up and down with squee.

The theme music from the radio series almost made up for the fact that the "Serenity" trailer was notably absent.

I really liked the fact that there was a reason for him taking Arthur along (repaying the fact that Arthur once saved his life); overall, Ford was pretty much the calm, mature one, which wasn't the mental image I had in my head, but it worked for me.

In the sequel ::crosses fingers:: we definitely need to see Ford get plastered and cut loose; though in the meantime, the identical reactions to the Pangalactic Gargleblasters were something to cherish.

OMG, you're right, Ford is not exactly the mature one in the original.

I also liked how they played "do you need a hug now?"

Yes, slash wouldn't be much of a stretch.

Which is, you know, interesting, since he's been mine since Sept. '03. Wrote slash about him *and* have him in icon rotation.

I'd be willing to share, though, as you are both hot and very brilliant.

I was going to ask who you slashed him with, then remembered it's not like I don't know your web address to go and have a look...

I didn't find it, but I did find gorgeous Oz/Jack Kerouac. Loved the Kinsey reference.

here, and as for who I slashed him with, it's pretty easy to guess. I am nothing if not predictable.

Whee, Kerouac! Thank you! (The Kinsey's thing true, too. *g*)

Yay! I went on a Mos Def hunt this morning (I'm vaguely ashamed of never having heard any of his music, but it looks like only two albums were released in the UK and they're both cheap - also should both be winging their way to me soon) and a copy of The Italian Job has found its way into my greedy mitts. Mos Def and Seth Green and Ed Norton. Glee! Since I also have Party Monster, I might have to make it a Seth Green double bill. Woes.

I'm guessing the Ford/Arthur, Ford/Zaphod, Zaphod/everyone slash is being written as I type?

I used to read Ford/Arthur and Ford/Zaphod for a short period a couple of years back, and man, when I saw it on screen... even my sister turned to me and went, "Jesus. Jess, I think I get it now."

Woo, that was fun. I went with three other people, and two of them are now demanding that I find and/or make a talking Marvin doll.

Zaphod/everyone

I would say: Zaphod/Everything.

And I really want to read Zaphod /Marvin. ;-)

Also I want the knitted version of them all to play at home.

Wee!

Eee! I loved, loved Hitchhiker. I need my own yarn Arthur doll. Also, large amounts of icons.

And I, too, was wondering if this movie would get a fandom so someone can do something about all the hugging and touching slash opportunities.
