I got the h2g2 promo DVD with the Sunday Times yesterday. I've watched it twice. Kevin and I are going to see it on Friday, probably, unless I am actually dead of excitement before then.

Of the clips they showed, one line that absolutely slayed me: Ford saying "What if I told you I'm not actually from Guildford?" I love that they kept that line in. I only got while watching it that having an American play Ford is perfect, because his undercover act is supposed to be a bit crap; not only does he do so little research that he picks himself the name of a car as "nicely inconspicuous" but he presumably doesn't notice or care that his accent's all wrong for the country he's supposed to be from...

My mother read The More than Complete Hitchhiker's Guide aloud on one of of cross-country (driving) trips and changed Ford's name to "Ford Escort" because Prefect meant nothing to us (this was before Harry Potter) but we usually drove a Ford Escort.

Ah. I take it you didn't read the long, heartfelt, outraged review online which describes each and every reason why this film is a travesty not to be borne?

[identity profile] doyle_sb4.livejournal.com 2005-04-25 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I did, but I choose to ignore it *g*

It was so thorough and so damning that I couldn't possibly ignore it.
Have you read Neil Gaiman's Don't Panic: The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy? My best friend gave it to me as a birthday present by mistake many years ago, thinking it was the book itself. (Uh. Douglas Adams' book, that is. Not the alcoholic's alternative to the Encyclopaedia Galactica.) You can imagine my confusion, having never heard of what was apparently this huge phenomenon in my life. Read the whole thing. Came at the books themselves from a very strange angle when I finally came to read them.

I have very fond memories of the 1st Hitchhiker's with Simon Jones and David Dixon which played on PBS here in the U.S. In fact I bought a copy of the dvd for work which has gone out quite a bit although mostly to high school students too lazy to read the book.
I'm looking forward to the movie and like the above poster it took me a few minutes to get the Ford Prefect bit because the Prefect never made it over to this side of the pond.
Remember : DON'T PANIC.

*Tempts* with review of whole film;)

Ooh! Although... I already read your review, I think? Was it the preview thing you went to with [livejournal.com profile] rozk?

A drabble tag question.

[personal profile] lafemmedarla 2005-04-26 01:55 am (UTC)(link)

Okay, please don't think I finally lost it.

[livejournal.com profile] carlyinrome and I were talking about how Dawn/Darla is canon (in our head ;) then we got talking about how Darla should be shipped with every single character on the Buffyverse. So we thought it would be nice to have a drabble tag game over at [livejournal.com profile] darlarevamped and we were wondering if we could steal your idea. Please? I'll write you Angel/Nina/Darla if I get drunk enough :D

Ooh, sounds fun! Steal away, I probably nicked it from someone else originally...

PS: Dawn/Darla would KILL ME WITH HOTNESS.

As would Dawn/Darla/Nina. Or Angel/Nina/Darla.
