doyle: tardis (locke fuck your shit up)

I caved and bought the complete Jeeves and Wooster DVD set. I've never seen the first episode before. I love what a mess Bertie is before he employs Jeeves - he's such a typical student, except he's not even at university. He just sort of arses about and gets into predictable crises involving aunts.

I really love this show.

Oooh, and Bertie's uber-camp cousins are in this episode and they flirt with Jeeves.
[Jeeves answers the door]
Cousin 1: Well, you're not Bertie.
Cousin 2: No, he's better looking than Bertie.
Jeeves: Very good of you to say, sir.

And the whole episode's about how Bertie can't take care of himself, and he needs to marry someone "strong and forceful and sensible" to take care of him. And along comes Jeeves. Hmmm.

*

I've done the pairing version of this, now for the characters:

01. Post a list of 10 TV shows you watch (current or dead).
02. Have your friends list guess your favourite character from each show.
03. When guessed, bold the line and write a sentence about why you like that character.
04. Post in your own LJ.

1. Angel (it's not Nina, shocking as that will appear, although she's up there): Angel himself, the big lug. Which is odd, since I really hated him on Buffy, but to quote Lindsey MacDonald, "he's good, he's bad, he's a barrel of monkeys." And I love him for it.
2. Star Trek: DS9: Close call between Garak and Ben Sisko, but Garak just wins out (even thuogh I love semi-unhinged messiah types). Garak's so insidious and clever and I love how his backstory evolves na dunfolds over the show's run.
3. House: House himself. Who wouldn't love a brilliant, witty, misanthropic, pill-popping medic? Except Bernard Black of Black Books, who loathes doctors because they're all satanists (it's why 'Ambulance' is written backwards, apparently). That's still a crossover event waiting to happen.
4. Desperate Housewives: Bree. She could easily have been the 2D Stepford wife but Marcia Cross is amazing. She is a scarily perfect domestic goddess but she is also human, but more importantly, like Locke, she could fuck your shit up, and you know she would.
5. Lost: Locke, who I first loved because I thought he was creepy and evil, and then because I decided he wasn't. He has a tragic past and a messiah complex, and as my icon says, he will Fuck Your Shit Up And Laugh About It After (thanks, [livejournal.com profile] buffyx. And we share the Boone-love.
6. Firefly: Jayne. Probably the shallowest choice on the list. He's so big and clumsy and not all that bright, and he's the only member of the Serenity crew I could see turning on them, and that's interesting.
7. Frasier: Niles. I love David Hyde Pierce. He has neurotic-but-sweet down to a tee.
8. Friends: Chandler. Predictable choice. I tend to go for the funny one of the group. Matthew Perry has terrific line delivery.
9. Star Trek: Voyager
10. Harry Potter: Remus Lupin. He's a werewolf! A shy, bookish werewolf teacher with an ambiguously gay relationship with Sirius and whose movie incarnation looks like a Bletchley Park codecracker. If Remus isn't in Book 6 I will cry and throw a strop.

Buffy's not on there because my favourites fluctuate too much to pick one.

Two out of three! Gunn and Wes probably tie as second favourite Angel characters...

Wes isn't your favourite?

Damn, now I'm stratching my head. Question = Is the question about regulars or does any character count?

Oh lord, I *loved* Jeeves and Wooster! Did you get the series off eBay or have they started selling it again? I found our local video rental place had the whole series and promptly rented the entire lot and watched them all over the week. Fry and Laurie are just superb! *huggles them* The episode where Jeeves leaves over the whole trombone issue has to be one of my favourites :)

I got them in HMV - the box set was £50, compared to the £100+ I've seen online. Which season's the trombone incident in?

I think it was SEason 2, on the second disc, LOL! Just the first few minutes had me giggling, I do adore Fry and Laurie so very, very much =) And I might have to look into HMV tomorrow, if they're selling all four seasons for that, then I am so there!

I watched that episode today! Brilliant stuff, I love Bertie's childish happiness when he thinks Jeeves has come back, only to have his hopes dashed when he finds he's working for Chuffy.

Bertie seems to get on very well with women when they're not trying to marry him - he really is the perfect gay best friend in this episode. (I think I remember the book describing the bit where he finds Pauline in his bed, and pyjamas, in the middle of the night, something like "opinions vary re: finding a female in one's bed. Most chaps like it. I don't." Heee.

For Voyager, I would take you for a Tom Paris fan and a strong believer in the OT3 of Paris/Kim/Torres.

the complete Jeeves and Wooster DVD set.

Ooh. I want them too, but when I looked at them on Amazon.co.uk a couple of months ago they were asking for 100 quid for used (or unused 2nd hand) ones, and I'm just not going to shell out that much money. There's always the R1:s but I'd rather not.

Yeah, that's why I grabbed the set in HMV today - it was £50, prettty good for all four series.

Seeing I have a copy of an early fanfic of yours I will guess that Voyager would be Kes.

Everyone forgets about Kes. Great character. Even if she did star in Elogium, the Stupidest Science Ep of All Time Voy.

Hmm. Ack, you never talk about Trek, it's hard to tell! And about your character tastes in general, all I can be sure of is that you don't have the kneejerk hate for the alpha males. Which'd be Paris, but... nah.

I'm going to guess (CAN A CROSSOVER BE FAR AWAY?) the Doctor.

Dude, there was eyefuckage! Poor Jeeves, he was seriously in danger of being jumped by them.

And Bertie and Jeeves were so shagging off-camera

They so were. I was rereading Joy in the Morning and was struck by Jeeves' description of Bertie to a prospective fiancee, that while he has many fine qualities, he is "one of nature's bachelors". That's an... elegant and barely subtextual way of putting it.
