(no subject)

Just got back from Kinsey. So much love for Liam Neeson, Laura Linney and Peter Sarsgaard. And now I want to read everything written by or about Kinsey, because the story fascinated me and I want to know how much of it is true. (Plus, they interviewed so many people - statistics!)

PETER SARSGAARD.

[identity profile] doyle_sb4.livejournal.com 2005-03-09 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
PETER SARSGAARD SEXING UP LIAM NEESON AND LAURA LINNEY!

[identity profile] moireach.livejournal.com 2005-03-09 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
I KNOW. (Tho' I was disapointed the Peter Sarsgaard/Laura Linney sexing wasn't more graphic!) But graaaaaah. That movie was a turning point in our relationship, mine and Peter Sarsgaard's. Yis.

I'm ashamed to say I don't remember seeing him in anything before. But he was very lovely and an excellent actor, and I will look out for more of his sexing</strike work.

He was in Shattered Glass and Garden State and was spectacular in both.

I can't wait to see this movie, because all three actors are among my favs.

[identity profile] doyle_sb4.livejournal.com 2005-03-09 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
I've heard a lot of good things about Garden State. Definitely going to have to rent that.

[identity profile] a2zmom.livejournal.com 2005-03-09 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
I also reccommend Shattered Glass, which is the true story of a scandal at The New Republic when it was discovered that one of their top reporters was making up stories out of whole cloth. A fascinating character study.

I want to see both of them. The fact that I fancy Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman has nothing to do with it, oh no.

Seriously, they both sound like good films. Small and interesting.

Okay first read the Kinsey Institutes New Report on Sex. Very good info!
Also there is a truly brilliant bio on him, but I can't for the life of me remember the author. But it's got a picture of Kinsey on the cover in his bow tie and in reddish colours his name. Sorry, I suck.

Is it this book (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0393327248/qid=1110328745/sr=2-2/ref=sr_2_11_2/202-4824359-9267036)? (I ran straight to Amazon after I couldn't find anything in my uni library catalogue)

[identity profile] cat-eyed-fox.livejournal.com 2005-03-09 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
Yes! Excellent. my copy is hanging out in my locker at school so I didn't have it on hand

[identity profile] annakovsky.livejournal.com 2005-03-09 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
OMG PETER SARSGAARD WAS SO HOT IN THAT.

[identity profile] doyle_sb4.livejournal.com 2005-03-09 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
He was. And the sex scenes were both incredibly hot because the Kinsey one's so longing and desperate and the Mac one was just guiltless and fun. I need this movie on DVD liek whoa.

[identity profile] annakovsky.livejournal.com 2005-03-09 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
soooooooooooo hot. I too am now desperately curious about what really happened - I need to get a biography of Kinsey or something.

[identity profile] doyle_sb4.livejournal.com 2005-03-09 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
I know that the real Clyde Martin refused to talk to the director. I am filled with curiosity.

[identity profile] annakovsky.livejournal.com 2005-03-09 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
REALLY? Huh.

(How awful of a name is "Clyde Martin", btw? Heeeeeee.)

Also, your icon! HA!

I have a new secret fandom shame: I really want Kinsey RPS. And there is none to be found :cries:

[identity profile] annakovsky.livejournal.com 2005-03-09 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
Well, the BOW TIE. Heeeeeeeeeee. I want Clyde Martin RPS.

[identity profile] doyle_sb4.livejournal.com 2005-03-09 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
!!! Further down this thread, [livejournal.com profile] a2zmom points out there is published Kinsey RPS called The Inner Circle (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0670033448/103-2662978-8828627). A 'virginal young man' becomes his assistant and does exactly what Clyde does in the movie. One might say he *is* Clyde with the name changed so the real guy couldn't sue...

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes! I read the review for that in the Sunday Times and thought, 'uh, this is Clyde Martin...'

There were a couple of pages in Fortean Times 194 page 52-53 about bits the film leaves out.
Further reading at the end of the article says :
TC Boyle The Inner Circle, Bloomsbury, 2005
James H Jones Alfred C. Kinsey: A Public/Private Life, WW Norton & Company, 1997
Jonathan Gathome-Hardy Alfred C Kinsey: Sex- The Measure of All Things - A Biography, Pimlico, 1999

[identity profile] doyle_sb4.livejournal.com 2005-03-09 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
The last two are in my Amazon shopping cart as we speak!

[identity profile] a2zmom.livejournal.com 2005-03-09 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
As an aside, the Boyle book is a work of fiction. I remember reading the NY Times book review (it was highly positive).

[identity profile] doyle_sb4.livejournal.com 2005-03-09 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
*Whoa*. I had a vague hope there'd be a fictionalized account but didn't think I'd find one. And Amazon UK has it! Thank you for pointing that out.

This is a review I wrote (http://www.livejournal.com/users/bookworm_jen/27242.html) about a biography of Kinsey that I read recently.
