Gakked from all over...

Step One
Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.

If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.

Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post (it'll be public) so that the holiday joy will spread.

Step Two

Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:

If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.

You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.

There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

My List
1. Funny, in-character Kurt/Brian (Teachers) fic, however short, so I don't have to write it myself and wipe my own memory so I can read it.
2. A new mood theme, probably of Illyria, Kennedy or Dawn.
3. Nina fic. Nina/Angel's great, obviously, but I'll go for Nina/anyone.
4. New icons of the Giles, Oz, Ethan or Gunn variety, since I keep thinking "argh, why don't I have a ____ icon"
5. Speaking of Oz and Gunn, Buffy paired with either one of them would be super.
6. Season 5 or later Angel/Spike of the snarky, non-schmoopy variety
7. Dawn/Mia The Princess Diaries crossover Christmas fic because [livejournal.com profile] fox1013 is right and it's the best series eva.
8. For everybody to either do this meme or [livejournal.com profile] fandomwishlist so I know what to get them...
ETA:
9. The soundtrack to a Broadway musical, maybe by yousendit.com - I love Bat Boy and Avenue Q and I'm wondering what other great stuff there is that I don't know about. If anybody's got the Hannibal or Titanic musical and is willing to send, that'd be great.
10. Archie comics, since I'm an Archie nut. Not really expecting anyone to go for this one, but my address is in this post (friendslocked), or contact me at doyle@exitseraphim.net.

My Amazon wishlist, technically making this eleven. But my birthday is in December...

Centering

No matter how many times she does it, centering requires concentration. Being aware of only wet clay spinning, sliding under her fingers. She's glad of the blankness it creates in her head. The hum of the wheel is painfully loud to her newly intensified sense of hearing, but she can block it out until she's only vaguely aware of a buzz in the back of her skull and an ache like an infection deep in her ears. Like the way she blocks out her awareness of the other students in the pottery studio.

No matter how hard she concentrates, her mind wanders lately. Sometimes she thinks about him. The way he feels, the way he smells. The way he always seems to be pushing her away, even when he's holding her. He's hiding things from her. It's child's play to spot evasion with her new senses, her nose catching subtle changes in scent, her eyes flicking to catch the quick shift of another's pupils. The low, growling fury in her belly drowns out the worry in her heart.

The clay slices apart, wrecklessly throwing loops of itself over the wheel. Nina sits back, surprised out of her thoughts. Her foot is pressed down hard on the pedal, making the wheel spin too fast, and she jumps a little as she slides it off and feels her sole hit the floor. Her nails are too sharp now anyway, and she pushes too hard. She ruins more than she creates because of it.

"Nina?" She's already looked up, startled, crouching, and forces herself to relax. She forces a smile at the concerned face of the woman standing in front of her, whose name she would have remembered before. "You okay?"

"Yeah, I'm fine." Every muscle in her body is poised to pounce, but it occurs to Nina that it would be a nice touch to chuckle sheepishly, so she does. "Seems like some days the wheel just doesn't want to cooperate."

"Yeah, sometimes it seems like nothing goes right." The woman smiles sympathetically, above the bleeding gash in her throat that looks so real Nina can almost taste it, before turning away.

The smell of flesh and earth is in her nostrils when she unconsciously brushes a stray strand of hair out her face, and she can't block anything out anymore. The studio is damp and echoing, smelling like dirt, mildew, chemicals, sweat and bad plumbing. Noise swelling around her, machinery, the mumble of people's voices. She is alone, crouching outside the edge of the herd.

Nina closes her eyes, trying not to see their weakness.

Yes. That's my girl, exactly.

Thank you so much, o anonymous benefactor!
