For my own reference and because I'm a details geek, I'm trying to work out what superpowers Angel mysteriously gains has, according to AtS.

- sees the dreams of those he sired (Somnambulist)

- photographic memory (Supersymmetry, Habeas Corpses)

- can leap 40 feet straight up (Habeas Corpses: shame he didn't remember he could do this in Hero when he was rushing to stop Doyle, actually) ETA: or possibly can just jump really high and use walls for leverage.

- can jump much more than 40 feet straight down

- super strength (all the time)

- speed

- hearing

- sense of smell, including the ability to tell if people have had sex

- can fall several hundred feet, at least, face first onto concrete without going splat (Reprise)

- surviving without blood for months without becoming one of the living skeletons Spike mentioned in Pangs, although Wes says any longer would have left his brain permanently damaged (Deep Down)

More to be added as I think of them/people remind me. Though I'm sure none are as funny or convenient as Buffy being telepathic in Showtime.

*giggles*

I... I like to believe that Angel can do pretty much anything in the world, but he doesn't like to show off. It makes people feel bad.

So he's like "Um... No. I don't have superpowers. No sir. Hey, Cordelia, go use your super-vision-having!"

Well, I would say, strength, fast healing and the ability to draw lovely pencil sketches of blonde ladies.

Um singing and dancing??? Combusting in sunlight??? Turn into dust...No,no,no, that's not what I meant. His hearing, super hearing, you know like when he can hear through the door in Pylea and um smelling (not as in he smells though!)

Of course there are always those superpowers that he uses 'off screen' but you'd have to ask Spike about those :)

You know something that's always bugged me...he can smell blood real good yeah? So when he's standing on the other side of the door with Cordelia bleeding having been "attacked" by her visions...how come he didn't smell it?

Oh yeah, if you wanted to list the Superpowers with episode titles...there's an example of his smelling abilities in "The Trial" where he and Gunn are discussing Angel's ability to smell blood and fear. Um, and in "The cautionary tale of Numero Cinco" when Spike tells the others "He smelled the blood. Nothing grabs a vamp's attention like the ruby red."

Oh damn...

I love that scene and now you have to go and ruin it by being all logical :P

Ooops...um, ok how can I correct this and make it alright again?

...um, yeah ok so he *could* smell it but thought...you know, it's *that* time again so out of politeness ignored it and...

I'm just digging myself in deeper now aren't I? That didn't make it any better did it, just icky.

Gah...

Thanks for the effort though. Heh.

The 'superpower' which always skeeves me out is the once-used ability to be able to smell when people have had sex. Remember Wes and the bleached blonde? Disturbing. *shivers*

[heh - I originally typed 'superposer' there, which I suppose could also apply to Angel *g*]

He can't exactly leap 40ft straight up, but he can jump pretty high and use the walls as further leverage. Or at least, that's the impression I got.

And yeah, telepathic Buffy in Showtime was a serious WTF?^^.

Maybe he can climb up walls incredibly fast, like the girl Connor chased in Deep Down?

Telepathic Buffy - lamest plot device ever. When did Buffy discover she could psychically communicate with Willow and Xander? Willow projecting into people's minds, yes, but she didn't even do that till she went after Glory and became much more powerful than she'd previously been...

Don't forget the jumping/flying between scaffolding in "Release". That was fairly impressive *g*

Although not technically a superpower, what freaked me out the most was watching the first episode and seeing Angel getting crime photos off a library computer. Angel has mad hacker skilz? WTF?

I would say, his sense of smell - i don't know about Cordelis, but he can smell Spike pretty well.

Don't forget his suspiciously amazing timing...managing to watch Connor banging Cordelia threw a window while it's raining fire from a very handy vantage point? That's good. ;)

The photographic memory thing really threw me when I first saw it mentiond. Unfortunately, because I am a bad fan, I don't remember when this was, and it's entirely possible it had been established before and I missed it. And it's probably more of a Liam thing than an Angel thing, if you want to get technical. But still: random & handy!

I think the first-ever mention was in Supersymmetry (he says it's not something he has all the time, it just kicks in sometimes). He snaps "Photographic memory!" in Habeas Corpses when Gunn questions whether he remembers the white room code. I don't think we ever hear about it otherwise.

To be fair to Buffy in "Showtime" I always thought she was tapping into Willow's telepathy.

Or maybe they were all wearing body mics and speaking like ventriliquists.

Because that would make more sense.

Posted by [identity profile] doyle_sb4.livejournal.com
See, I wasn't even sure she would know about the telepathy - Willow speaks to Spike telepathically in The Gift and to the gang in Bargaining. I suppose they could have used it at some point offscreen when Buffy was there.

I like the mics theory better.

Well, duh, Willow obviously uses it when she and Buffy have mindsex all the time.

I really should not reply to these things when I haven't slept.

I thought the photographic memory was attributed to generic vampire powers rather than something unique to Angel (although I still don't think it had ever come up before in that context). Can't remember which episode I thought I saw it in. Maybe just going nuts.

sees the dreams of those he sired

ooh. Was that retconned/fanwanked somehow, or is it technically canon that he can do it any time he wants? 'Cause for us Angel/Spike shippers that has serious potential, especially if it skips a generation like the word sire itself apparently does.

I've checked the transcript:

Wesley: You don’t suppose it’s his way of trying to draw you out? That he knows you’re here. That might explain the dreams.
Angel: No. I used to have a connection with those I sired. It just means he’s close, that’s all.

Sounds like he should be able to share the dreams of people he's sired when they're in the same city (seems odd he didn't know Dru was around in season 2, unless W&H were somehow blocking it.)

sense of smell, including the ability to tell if people have had sex

Skeevy or not, I kinda loved it when this one came up. Especially with Spike/Buffy. *leers* But I always wondered why he didn't smell Lindsey on Eve. Or does he only remember Lindsey's scent "pretty well" in my fevered imagination...
