I've been taking a bit of a break from fandom recently, mostly because I'm working on my Masters thesis and I'm in labs all day, and partly because I'm still in the writers'-block-can't-write-a-word place. I'm in labs right now, actually, where I should be measuring the ratios in the Balmer lines of this planetary nebula emission spectrum, but meh. Ooh, and I'm taking Japanese classes. They're fun. Although I need to learn more hiragana because at the moment I can write 'ma' and 'a' without looking at the chart. I'm not sure how many words that will let me write, but I'm guessing not too many.

[livejournal.com profile] connorbeast has introduced me to the joys of e-bay, because he's an evil enabler. Considering he and I both have addictive personalities, it's *exactly* the kind of site we should be spending time on. Why, I was convinced I was over my 8-year-old self's love of My Little Ponies and Sylvanian Families until I was browsing through the toy section and the giant bell of 'I must have these NOW' went off in my brain.

I did get a signed 8x10 of J August Richards for a very good price. He's so pretty. And has a very nice signature.

Oh, and my student loan didn't come in. Further investigation revealed that this was because I, err, forgot to apply for it. Oops.

Letters keep coming to our house addressed to Ms. Doyle, presumably for a former resident. [livejournal.com profile] thecount_ha keeps giving them to me because he forgets that Doyle isn't in fact my real name, which amuses me.

I just personally (and selfishly) hope you get over the writer's block soon-ish!

So you've met my arch nemisis eBay. He keeps finding cool Spider-Man stuff that I don't have yet. And I keep buying said cool stuff. It's a vicious cycle.

And now you've peaked my interest in the My Little Ponies. I don't have the room to buy any but it wouldn't hurt to look would it? Cause I kinda miss my ponies.

Sometimes I forget that Doyle isn't your real surname too. :) Oooh, I miss being in astrophysics labs.

How coincidental that Ms. Doyle lived there before you. Stuff like that makes me shake my fist and yell conspiracy. Okay, maybe not.

But it's like, yesterday, I don't read much Firefly stuff, but I was reading an essay on [livejournal.com profile] ship_manifesto (which you got me addicted to, thank you very much) and Godsmack's Serenity came on my playlist. It's insane.

I was playing a word game on Yahoo yesterday and half-listening to The Simpsons. The game asked me for an American football team at the same time as Lisa mentioned the Buffaloes onscreen. I typed it in and lo, it was the right answer...

Ooh, my favourite was the one I've mentioned before in my journal - I was playing a game in the google directory where I clicked on every 9th link. I was amused to end up in personalized workwear, since that's the kind of company I was working with. The 9th link in my section was for a little family business - with the same last name as me.

Japanese is a great language! Frustrating, but really cool.

There's a japanese LJ community: japanese (https://www.dreamwidth.org/users/japanese/). It's for anyone interested in the language, from absolute beginner to those who're fluent. Good place to lurk.

What exactly are Balmer lines? I only ask because I grew up in a place called Balmer(town). :)

Hee. The Balmer lines are just part of the spectrum of Hydrogen, the part that's in the visible wavelength range. So called after a Mr. Balmer.
