(Buffy and Angel fandom could easily provide a hundred essays all on their own. I can think of people just on my friends list who could do Snyder. And Mr. Gordo. And Devon. And Katrina.)

!!1! Goolecaptain's posted the conclusions he's drawn about fanfic from his classic *cough* "Why Do We Write This". Pure gold. The fluffy-bunnies ending to a fic about Hank Summers sexually abusing his daughter would normally have me headdesking but it's exactly what I was expecting. Goolecaptain makes me want to write nothing but angsty everybody-dies darkfic in the hope that some glorious day he'll write me a happy ending 'sequal'. Till then I'll be over here casting jealous looks in elektra_'s direction.

Er, no. Disliking Eve was nothing about jealousy and everything about a badly written character being absolutely unable to step into the shoes of the person she was meant to replace. Lilah was well written, perfectly acted by SR, and we knew her enough to understand that the only side she was going to be on was her own. Whether that side was going to be Angel's or the Senior Partners' was the question that we didn't know the answer to. Lilah was a three dimension character. Eve was a two dimension characature. There's a big difference.

Yeah, because Eve was SUCH a threat to one's Angel pairing of choice. I know I personally was very upset when Angel and Eve's undeniable connection led them to have that beautifully meaningful sex, and when Angel clearly showed in the episodes following that it had meant a great deal to him and that the only reason he avoided her like the plague was because he feared her company would result in a moment of perfect happiness.
